I was born in a Greek orthodox family but the faith was never really taught to me. I was a protestant from 20 to 30 but I am going back to the orthodox church because of what I learned about church history. I used to be so convinced about sola scriptura until I heard that the Bible was put together in the 4th century. So how did the christians do before that? Well, we obviously need the church fathers and the faith that was passed down generation to generation. ORTHODOXY IS THE TRUE WAY OF WORSHIP. DOXA PATRI KAI YO KAI PNEVMATI. Original Sinner All Christians are accepted by Christ and given salvation, no matter what denomination. However we (all Christians) should unite under the church of the apostles, and not fight over trivial differences in theological interpretation. The fact Protestants say Catholics will burn in hell or Catholics say the orthodox will burn in hell is a very horrific thing to say and to proclaim. As long as you accept Christ as son of God who died for your sins he will redeem you, but the scattering of Christ’s flock was an evil thing to do and has been done by power hungry leaders. Once the church was first established, it was like the Tower of Babel we were all divided quickly by power hungry leaders, I pray some day we come together under the first church.

I was born and raised a pastor’s kid in “non denominational” Protestant Christianity. Ever since I was conscious I remember seeing people yelling, crying, laughing, dancing, convulsing, all in the name of God’s love and power. All the while these people were preaching against the laws of God, claiming we ought to indulge in the grace of God, as if His laws and His grace were at odds with each other. I am very interested in learning the truth I’ve found in the scriptures from the perspective of the true church.

From what I've seen, Protestants become Orthodox because they study history and discover the first church was sacramental, liturgical, and had apostolic succession. But their bias against Catholicism keeps them from considering Catholicism, and both Orthodoxy and Anglicanism seem like you can get apostolic succession without having to accept Catholicism.

apostolic succession in Anglicanism? Can you explain that one? I have found that everyone who converts to Orthodoxy from Protestantism (including myself) actually first serious look at Catholicism since there is so much more material out there trying to convert protestants to Catholics. Then after reading more into its just not the right pill to swallow. Also Catholic services are really inconsistent. Some have bands and plain white walls like protestants, some don't. I find that on paper Catholicism talks a big spiritual game (Thanks Richard Rohr) but doesn't deliver in reality. On a Catholic podcast, they mentioned there is only one monastery (St Francis) in Europe that follows the traditional order / fasting, etc. Meanwhile that one monastery is what all Orthodox monastery's look like, if not more traditional.

I also found Orthodox church is the least racist church. Protestants and Catholics sent Native American kids to some boarding schools with rampant abuse and discrimination. I was baptized and chrismated orthodox as a baby but due to actual inner church politics and certain individuals (long story) we stopped going. I was maybe 4 or 5 at that time. My parents didn’t really raise us under religion as I think they grew sort of out of the faith themselves. My dad was originally raised Roman Catholic however. I think my parents both still believe in the power of Jesus and God but to an extent. We literally had to have crosses burned into the door ways years ago. So in highschool I started exploring religion and I of course really was drawn to orthodoxy. Frankly the only church I really knew. I had explored under agnosticism for the longest time. I had some principal orthodox belief but still was holding additional beliefs. Slightly drawn toward Buddhism being still of eastern belief, but just never found myself in it. Interested but never felt right. Western Christianity has always just seemed so artificial and more like a show than anything else to me. Even the older order Congregationalists and other Protestants just seem like they’re missing something. They were missing the spiritual side. A word I’ve rarely heard from other Christian’s. Instead they use the word religious and I never felt it was proper and the terms were too loose. Keep in mind I had been learning orthodoxy this whole time through the internet and I had been to a few liturgy services and what not before as well and did feel dee connection. After hearing a sermon read by the deacon at my uncles parish where he’s a priest, it just hit me differently. As I looked up at the depictions of the Son, and of all the saints I just felt an overwhelming sense of “I’m home”. The following Sunday I made myself attend liturgy at a parish my grandfather had belonged to for the last 4 years of his life. And I found a true home parish with a great priest, and a welcoming congregation. I went to confession and was able to partake in holy communion. This all having been within the past couple of months. Orthodoxy is the true Christian religion and a truly great place

I’ve spent the last week researching the Orthodox Church. It has caused me unbearable anxiety and fear. I was SO converting. But every time I was ready to take the leap, something inside me kept screaming at me that I shouldn’t. I begged and pleaded to God to show me where he wants me, where I’ll be best used for his commission. I felt an unbelievable wave of relief wash over me, I simply could not join the Orthodox Church… the doctrine of salvation alone just seems to fall short of what Christ himself says. Christ promises salvation on very simple grounds, and the orthodox perspective of theosis and that Christ’s sacrifice was not to forgive the sins of man (something many church fathers agree on) makes christs sacrifice insufficient. I have not completely closed my heart to the Orthodox, but the church does not seem to be an institution, but the whole body of those who believe Jesus is the Messiah. Please everyone, pray for my clarity.

St Gregory the great, Patriarch of Rome (before the Schism) 590-604 AD said: "Whoever calls himself universal bishop or desires this title is, by his pride, the precursor to the Anti-Christ, because he thus attempts to raise himself above the others. The error into which he falls springs from pride equal to that of anti-Christ; for as that wicked one wished to be regarded as exalted above other men, like a god, so likewise whoever calls himself sole bishop exalteth himself above others." I do not mean to convey a message in an unloving manner. No no, not at all😟💔 But I'm just trying to sincerely show how the Early Church evaluated things before any thoughts of Schisms..

Man and a woman are same in term that they are both human beigns but they have different roles. Bible teaches us that man must submit to the church and God and woman must submit to her man (if they are married). Church liturgy is held by men only because God commanded that woman shouldnt be above a man or have authority over him and that she should remain in silence. Timothy 2:12 A lot of things are expected from a woman because of her great godgiven Gift to give life. This is why she must remain pure.

I think one point of confusion is the definition of the word church. The church is actually the called out ones, those born from above. You can add whatever rites or sacraments to that you want, but what matters is being born from above, having received the Holy Spirit. He is the One who makes us alive and sanctifies us for our heavenly abode.

@@atanasiogreene8493 That is the danger in many church doctrines. Becoming a member of Christ’s church is a work of God, new birth, a circumcision of the heart. What is with all of this 'western thinking' talk? I knew an EO guy who rejected the laws of logic, (law of excluded middle, etc.) because it was 'western thinking' . Why would anyone reject logic to embrace 'mystery'? Are they more concerned with aesthetics than truth? Am I guilty of 'western thinking' by asking that question? Is it the EO alternative to a last resort Mormon testimony("If you think our position doesn't make logical sense, you are just stuck in western thinking.")? Also, Paul shows that succession of apostolic doctrine is more important than succession of leadership authority in Galatians 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. " So if there is conflict between ideas of protestants who hold to Sola Scriptura and Tota Scriptura as their authority, I would think Paul would endorse their position more than EO, since he deemed the original teaching as more authoritative than anything he or other apostles would later say. Also, Paul taught against certain kinds of oral traditions here: Titus 1:14 "Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth." And though Paul appointed Titus to appoint elders in Titus 1, apostolic succession of authority is not part of the list of requirements for church leaders given to Titus; and yes I know it is entailed that Titus would be part of an apostolic chain in appointing them in that instance, but that seems coincidental since there is also nothing about succession in 1st Timothy 3's list of requirements for church leadership where the appointment is not entailed.

I think it's kind of "you don't need to see miracles to see the truth" kinda thing, being blinded by unnecessary apologetics thing, and I'm partially sold to that notion Part of "Talking too much doing so little" notion I think. It's not the whole truth, but part of it for sure
@FirstnameLastname-py3bc

"Sola Scriptura" is a very modern contraption, because anyone with a brain with a size of a walnut and little bit knowledge of history knows that the Bible was composed from oral accounts quite later, and especially at councils deciced what belonged in the bible and what must have been let to garbage. So something basically man-made they believe they understand better than those who made it, and they need no help from them Are there tens of books in Christianity that has exact step by step explanation what each erson should and shoul not do, what they are allowed to eat and what not, what to wear and what not, et cetera. Do Christians have them? The muslims do. And yet they still need some molas to better understand all of it. So you think, a single mortal understands it as it should be understood? Or you think everyone understanding it differently makes everyone correct? Can a law be understood as anyone pleases? This is crazy And "western thinking" is not "what one can't explain" per se, but some difference is in human values for example, yeah - general understanding of things is quite different. Example being - "western thinking" is that if one disagrees with church they change religion, in the "eastern thinking" they undrstand this church is corrupt and they either try to fix it, or going alone living a "sola scriptura" life as you'd call it until they find a correct church or slowly come to realize they were false. At least that one is a common difference. And unlike Catholicism Orthodoxy is not about authority of priests. Attending both I can say Catholicism has a quite strong notion of authority stating right from very bottom Although that is my observation and one can disprove this

How do people figure they can pray to Mary or one of the Saints and get answers to prayer? The Bible says you pray to the Father in Jesus name for your requests and petitions. I don't think Mary, who is in heaven now, with millions of other saints, could hear and answer several million people's prayers every day or every week.

I very disagree. The Catholic Church never created another Church. The proof is that the Maronite Church staid the same even if they are link to us. Even if we gave them some teachings, the Maronite Church came back to their former Christian cult. I think we should learn to love each other, as our Lord taught us thanks his apostles and the Holy Scripture. The Book Roman proves the Church of Rome was created by the apostles of Jesus. With some research we can see how the roman Christians got some several and awful persecutions during antiquity.

Dear brother, my prayers are with you. But the Orthodox Church, including that of Antioch, has added and attached many beliefs and practices to the original, simple faith in Jesus Christ; additions which were unknown to the Apostles. These changes include the growth and development of the Divine Liturgy, which was embellished far beyond the original readers of the ‘Didache’ ever dreamed. Did the church at Antioch “never” fail? That question deserves to be answered in-depth, and should not be used as a ‘brand’ or slogan. I must ask: why would our Lord hide His true Church as “the best-kept secret,” for so many centuries? Dave, you do not “help,” nor do you answer questions asked of you. This channel seems to be all about you ... which it is, clearly.
