I have been getting a load of feedback on the new HotShot 2 Blockhead Motors edition and unfortunately, a large number of you are not happy with the design changes vs the box art HotShot 2. Yes, it's a direct design port over from the Blockhead Wild One that was released last year, so a few of you would like to have seen something a bit different from Blockhead, while others just wanted the box art HotShot 2.
Will this impact its sales around the world or will it still sell out due to it being the desirable HotShot 2 that we have all wanted for such a long time?
Obviously, I will be getting one on the show and when I think about it, my own personal opinion is, I'm happy we have this rerelease but yes, it would have been nice to see something different from Jun Watanabe for the HS2 livery, vs the same styling as Wild One Blockhead design. That said I do feel people will still snap this gem up, but it will be interesting to see how people feel about this kit over the coming months before release.
Also in this video, I cover all the upgrades found in the new TT02SRX and TT02BA. I do like the TRF420 arm upgrades as well as a few other aspects of the SRX, so I will probably get in a TT-02SRX for review.
Below are the specs for the TT02SRX (Sorry no space for the BR specs as well)
58720 TT-02SRX RACING On Road 4WD
The TT-02 frame will soon be available in an exclusive updated version compared to the previous S version.
The TT-02 Type-SRX frame kit features increased durability and performance for racing. This frame kit uses the stock oil differential and front rigid post as well as a selection of options normally sold separately. This kit is perfect for those who want an Entry level frame but who already have an Optional base to be able to configure it for competitions.
Chassis Features
1/10 Scale R / C Chassis Mounting Kit.
• Items 22049 oil differential and 22047 rigid front pole ensure easy assembly and stable driveability.
• This frame kit features a reliable 4 wheel independent double wishbone suspension used in the TRF420 frame to ensure an effective setup.
• Center joints have plastic parts in the joint sections of stainless steel pins and aluminum joints to limit wear of parts.
• Universal joint (code 22054) provides stable steering and cornering grip for superior performance during racing.
• The rear driveshafts have a size of 39mm, specific for this frame.
• High speed gears and 27T sprockets (transmission ratio: 6.55: 1) are included as standard parts of the kit.
• The included servo saver ensures an ideal steering angle and to limit damage to the steering servo.
• Features shielded ball bearings.
• Comes with a dedicated carrying case for the TT-02 Type-SRX chassis.
• Please note that the body, battery, motor, tires and R / C system are not included.
Accessories included as standard
- 37mm cardan for constant velocity joints, 2pcs. (code TO22054).
- XV-02 / TT-02 Oil gear differential (code TO22049).
- Front rigid pole set XV-02 / TT-02 39T (code TO22047).
- 27T module 06 pinion in hardened aluminum (code TO54981).
- TRF419 suspension set (code TO54886).

I think the headline sums up the internet world we live in today! Some people may not be happy. Others are. Doesn't really matter either way! You could say that 10 kittens were saved from a tree and there would still be people who are unhappy...

Of course I think the old hotshot family looks way better. I think the kyosho mentality of keeping the looks of the kit vintage the way fans know and love for nostalgia but internally upgrade mechanically for modern equipment is a smarter move. The re re optima mid is one seriously nice looking kit. Too pricy for me, but pure awesome. They got it right. Also the miriad of special pricy tt02 kits is just crazy. I think the best buy by far is still the basic kits. They are cheap, come with a body (which lets face it is like half the price of the kit), they come with wheels/tires, motor and a speed controller. By far the best price for what you get. You can then upgrade the bits YOU care about only. Honestly many of the bling upgrades do nothing for how the car runs. Bearings, oil shocks, maybe cva joints and turnbuckles are about all you really need to get these kits running great. Cheers.

true, I would not have bought a re-re kyosho if they changed them. and I built it to box art, which I definitely didn't do when they were new 😁

Great video as per usual. Appreciative for the existence of this channel and well as the manufacturers who continue to deliver these great vehicles. Aesthetics are subjective and are always going to polarising for a passionate fan base, regardless of the designs. Thanks again Gavin.

The design has totally changed my opinion on this, it looks great, but, I have a Blockhead WildOne, and don't really want another car in that colour scheme. I love Jun Watanabe's designs, but was hoping for another unique design not something in the same livery.

Tr02bR Finally tamiya realized that the stock knobby tire JUST DONT CUT IT! Every stock kit has chassis’s slap no matter what stock adjustments you make. The dual block tires solve this issue and increase the height. I bought the dual blocks and df03 black wheels for 40 at tamiyausa. I used my tower hobby points for the aluminum dampers and got them for 12 bucks after points. BEST 50 dollars I have ever spent. Pretty much solves the chassis slap with those two upgrades. Make sure you build the dampers with zero internal rubber o ring spacers in front and two in rear instead of the ridiculous 4 in rear and 3 in front. That way you actually have droop I want to know if this NEW part number carbon damper stay is actually the same as what is available now. My advice is do the kblocks and aluminum dampers first. Next get the carbon damper stays. Then build it your way. So many say they bought just the dampers and it solved their problem however these taller tires are needed because they have foams and don’t compress flat like the stock ones do ;)

Looks a bit like a cross between a Boomerang and a Fox. I like it! The original Hotshot 2 struck me as a little bland in the styling department compared to other vintage Tamiya buggies. The Blockhead version solves that problem. It would be nice to have one of these to run around the yard with my red box-art Hotshot 1.

I'm actually excited about the TT02BR carrying case. TT02B buggies are wider than the boxes they come in. Maybe Tamiya will sell that as a separate item down the line? Alternatively, I could just make my own box out or sit a buggy down in my car when transporting it. Definitely agree that the cost of parts needs to be compared with the package, but it's definitely easier as many options are included and sourcing individual parts can be tedious.

I wish Tamiya had just released an original HotShot 2, they could have then done the Blockhead one later as a bonus. I think they have really let down the fans who have been waiting for years for a Hotshot 2. Also, no one outside of Japan cares about, or even knows who Jun Watanabe is.

for me (as a big hotshot family fan) i will buy it, and enjoy that. i think tamiya know what they are doing- if they released the HS2 standard and then released the Blockhead HS2 they would have less sales, doing it this way around i Buy the blockhead and when they release the standard I buy both! (cus im a sucker). cant be easy to set the tooling up so I reckon they will release the HS2 standard a little down the line

Gavin, it would seem that the blockhead editions are all intending to be blue so far with yellow number plates and chrome wheels? I can understand why yellow shocks make more sense with that color scheme then red do.... So hopefully like you say at some point they will run a traditional batch of hotshot 2s.... I'm thinking to Maya did this in a blockhead version because they already have a normal hot shot and a normal super hot shot on the market. And they probably felt the way the wild one moved with that livery that it would do the same thing for the hotshot 2... Which I think it looks great... But I also wouldn't mind having the traditional version... Since we're basically looking at a boomerang it'd be great if they reissued that as prices on that car are really expensive considering how many times it was reissued in the last 10 years.... Suppose I'll have to figure out if I want to get one of these fairly soon. Cuz even though everyone's bitching about it I'm sure they're going to buy it. Therefore it'll take close to a year to get one of these things....

The TT02-BR is a tempting kit, let's see how much it will cost. I like the idea of the TT02-SRX but I don't understand why Tamiya is using the TRF420 suspension and makes the car more narrow. And it will most likely be more expensive then the TA08, but the downstop screws won't work and we still see no anti roll bar mounts. I think it would have been better if they create wider arms and use longer driveshafts to get the ca to 190mm. Little carbon plates below the tub chassis, that support the downstop screws, would have been nice. Like the Yeah Racing TATT-S04 conversation but with holes for the TRF420 front bumper. Also new aluminium suspension blocks that can hold the plastic pills with an integrated sway bar mount on top would have been awesome. Missed chances herein my opinion. I think I will look out for 22065. I wonder why we don't so new variants of the TA-08 and TC-01.

I was super excited for the new TT02SRX. I run the Type-S and have applied some hop ups - the car is immensely competitive considering its budget price! I'd love an X-Ray or Schumacher but have nowhere near enough disposable income for that. It's a shame the UK price is >£300. I was crossing my fingers that the SRX is somewhat affordable. For budget racing I'd still go for the Type-S, and for £300+ they want for the SRX I'd be looking at second hand 'top shelf' racers instead.

so do we think that most rereleases are now going to be with a twist from now on, so you can get parts for the older ones, but you are encouraged to get the new model also? Same complaints you hear from plastic modelers when Tamiya releases a new model kit. "why did they do that?" "why don't the do a XXXX?" "they're not getting my money!" "I LOVE IT, gonna buy 10 of 'em!!" "meh..." I've seen this dozens and dozens of times over the past 30 years in the hobby; be it RC, plastic modeling or whatever. You just can't please everyone. Tamiya in the end is going to do what they want and they will sell a crapload of them and make a ton of money. What we think doesn't make a whit of difference.

I agree but the HS2 has been one people have wanted for a while as well. I think it was just a bit of a shock that it's not the standard box kit. I've seen more positive comments over the last 24 hours as more images and footage has come out on it. I myself would like to have seen a different Blockhead livery design vs the Wild One, as Jun has some lovely colorful Hopper and Hornet designs in his collection but I get the feeling it will not be a deal-breaking for most. The early pre-orders have been going well so far in the UK so I'm told.

Well, it's a Blockhead Motors Hotshot 2.. I would expect it to have identical colours and decals to the BH Wild One. I think it looks cool. There are some who don't like it, but it's easy to strip the paint and buy the original paint and hotshot 2 decals if thats what someone prefers. So far, I have built 4 tamiya rc cars and none of them look anything like the box art(I have no videos up yet). They don't even have the decals on them. I have never done anything to the original design/box art(it infuriated my teachers in 1980's actually. Lol.). My message? Be individual. Make the rc car (or anything), uniquely yours. The Blockhead Hotshot 2 is uniquely, "Blockhead"! 🙂
