Used Toyota cars are expensive and they hold really high value on the used car market. Why is that, and how can you best navigate buying a used Toyota? These are low depreciation cars and that's because of the high reliability and the low cost of ownership you can usually expect from these cars. However, I'm going to explain why this happens and what you can do about it if you're looking at a used Toyota car

Used Toyotas are so expensive because reliable cars will always be in high demand. I now have a 23 BMW but I used to have a 16 Corolla that I financed and paid off for 24k. Years later it was on market for 10k and was given above market at 12.5k when I traded it at BMW. I found my old corolla for sale days later being listed at 16.9k. Btw, it only had 53k miles.

We have owned over 20 cars since 1997, when we were younger and had an interest in status and not always concerned with reliable transportation. Fast forward to 2022 and 2023, we have a Tacoma sport 6 cyl and RAV4 Adventure, both naturally aspirated non turbo. Our dealer in the Midwest did not have add ons, mark ups, so they are high volume auto group. Because we want reliability. Now, that said, expect the detractors, mostly the Ford/GM/Stellantis suckers who are drowning in their underwater sh*t boxes that lost up to $10K since 2021, and they have 15% interest rates, or had their Dodge muscle car repo'd. Even if you were being paid by Toyota, at least the integrity of the product is there.

Someone I know sold his Toyota Tacoma with 300,000 miles for $10,000. I can't believe people will spend that much money on a high-mileage used car, but that shows that Toyotas are very reliable in the long run.
@mhassouneh
@mhassouneh 6 ай бұрын
Unless that particular truck had a bunch of things replaced right before it was sold, it wasn't worth $10k.. Toyota or not, all vehicles will require all sorts of parts to be replaced at that high a mileage.. Spending another couple of thousand dollars for shocks & struts, front suspension parts, a timing chain & water pump and what not would really negate any benefit of reliability at that point.
@Nostrada-mus
@Nostrada-mus 6 ай бұрын
No, regardless of reliability, that guy is dumb. It is reliable enough not to start breaking down at 150 miles like the other car makers but at 300k miles he will have to deal with frequent repairs and increasing maintenance costs.

Bought my first two new Toyota's in 1982 , why ? Because as a VNV I was working summers on a AFB while in college and noticed a lot of them on the base . I started asking people why Toyota . Even back then , the answer was reliability and the cost for that reliability . Bought a new 82 Hilux and a Tercel for just a few thousand more than the Big 3 brand vehicles we were considering . Hence , we have owned many since , as have our kids .

Mark your videos are very informative You give solutions to the problems people face on a day to day basis without knowing the reasons and how to solve them. You mentioned about the new Camry display where in the sound wasn’t coming to speakers and you took it to the dealer and he disconnected the battery and reboot the computer. In my Audi I am facing the same issue the screen has the display of the CD running and there’s no sound in the speakers. Will try this to disconnect the battery and reboot it. Thanks in Advance !!!

Why would someone ask what is Toyota paying you?!!! Good advice and honesty goes a long way. Low cost maintenance and mileage are good reasons to buy Toyota. Go into a GM dealer, buy one of their vehicles 💩 and leave out having the salesman calling you a jackass, stupid etc. second when you turn off the lot, the vehicle u just bought, the value plummeted!!! 😮

The one thing you didn't mention, is that Toyota owner's typically take really good care of their vehicle's which adds to the resale value. Our daughter is in her third year of college. She needed a reliable, safe and large vehicle to drive back and forth to school during school breaks. (260 miles one way) She saved her money and paid cash for her 09 Toyota Camry LE with the 2.4L engine with over 238K miles. (It cost her $5K) I normally would stay away from any vehicle with that many miles. But because it was a Toyota Camry with a proven reliability, I wanted to check it out. The previous owner took really good care of it. Everything worked and no rust. I only had to replace these items: 1) Front bumper lower grille ($28) 2) Upstream oxygen sensor (Check engine light on) ($174) 3) Front brake pads/rotors ($254) 4) Left front CV axle boot torn ($165) 5) Engin air filter ($18) 6) Front headlight housing ($105) 7) Spark plugs ($40) We own a 07 Toyota Camry XLE with over 156K miles. It's a really great car and worth the money. Keep up with the routine maintenance and it will run for a long time.

Hi. Beeing in Europe we have different priorities here. You know that. Fuel cost, small roads, hard to find parking in the city etc. Well, I bought T Avensis 3 years ago with 14K km and it was just one year old. Now 62K and still feel like a new. Very simple car 1.8 L petrol, no turbo, no extras and gets me wherever I want. It isn racing horse at all. These days when I wanted muscle car are gone, now I need reliability and I don't want to know (in person) all mechanics in the city. Nothing can broke if it isn't there.I am happy with this rig and believe I keep it for my son and grand son.

Not one problem at all and there are videos now on youtube where uber drivers have hit the 300k mile marks. The very early models in 2017 -2019 had some transmission issues, but Toyota got right on it and you do not hear of it anymore. Kind of like the new Tundra 1st 6 mos had a rough start, but Toyota always gets right on it and corrects the issues. If you are in need of a new car now I would not hesitate to recommend it. I will say however they do not ride as good as the older Camry's they went more sporty with them so if ride quality is a concern I would find a good used late model Avalon. I mean they ride fine, but you feel the road more and louder road noise due to the low profile tires. We got the 2020 Camry SE which has a slightly upgraded suspension so the LE might ride better I do not know.. Its been reliable and rock solid though.@@subaruamazon

About three years ago I bought a 2011 Camry used. It cost considerably more than other sedans of the same age. However, since I bought it I've only spent money on regular oil changes and air filters. Had a I bought say, a Malibu or Cruz of similar age, I'm sure whatever I saved at the front end when I purchased a used Chevy would have been lost and more on repairs given my history with Chevys. So yeah, Toyotas cost more at the front end but over the long run they cost a lot less to own compared to a car that needs major repairs every six months.

Great list. I lost most of my hair doing Customer Relations at Audi. Those electrical glitches were never-ending. Over all, as much as I love DRIVING an Audi, I would never OWN an Audi. Now, for the Lexus UX. We have UX 200 non-hybrid. Maybe I'm just lucky, but in 50,000 l've had ZERO issues on our 2020. I bailed on the Hybrid UX250, because at that time, Lexus had moderate dedication to Hybrids and Electrics (yes, I know they're Toyota), but at $32k new, the UX 200 still has averaged 33 mpg from day one, which meets my minimum 30mpg and it's less complex. But, what most of us UX owners love is its nimble, quick handling, which I appreciate living in BC and the Mojave where we drive. Planning on 200k+ like our old GS and ES Lexi.

We owned a 97 Taurus...that car cost us more in repairs than our 4 Toyotas combined...i am dead serious. Toyota detunes their engines so they last long time. I’ve not looked at Toyota but I’ve looked at Lexus lately and they’re worth considerably more on the used market than their European counterparts in almost every model category. I think it’s because of two things: 1. They’re a known, reliable, and inexpensive-to-own luxury car. 2. Because of #1 above, people don’t tend to want to sell them, so they’re not very common on the used markets, in addition to the desirability factor in #1.

In Australia Toyotas have a good name from the Yaris to the tough Landcruiser and it doesn't matter how old it is, I bought a Camry 5 years ago for 2900 dollars and it had 132000 kilometres on it now its done 220000 kilometres it just keeps going , I met someone who has one that's done 700000 kilometres , it's a 1999 Camry with a 2.2 four cylinder engine with a 4 speed automatic transmission

In my country Toyotas are expensive as used cars, but it isn´t really true. They are not sold at the prices demanded, if you just go buy one, you can get a huge discount. But they use the high prices to be able to give you a high price for your old Toyota. This can easily be proved, when some private person tries to sell their Toyotas, they always sell their cars much cheaper than the dealership. It´s simply fake.

As far as Toyotas go. I have an 89 4wd pickup with 342k miles on it. It has only left me stranded once. The fuel shutoff relay failed after 30 years. A 100$ part. I can still sell it for probably close to 7000$ today although todays dollar is not worth a shit. My wife has a 23 Kona that now has 9k miles and is already probably worth 2/3 what we paid for it new.

The Japanese motorcycles are a perfect analogy: probably they're not exciting as the European ones and probably they offer less features for the money, but they give you a bullet proof power train and less bills if you do the basic maintenance.
