comedyhype.com/ - Arsenio Hall would end up taking over a lane in late night talk shows that spoke to an under-served market. The talk show pioneer's historic run however would come to an end, now CH examines why. Instagram: @ComedyHype & Twitter: @ComedyHype_ Beat by Yondo Written by @mr.dominicsmith & Jon Williams. Most of the awesome talent he had on his show was already famous and getting tons of respect as they should be..Mike Tyson,Eddie Murphy..etc..etc..let's not make it a race issue because arsenio wouldn't be down with that...he loved people and people loved him regardless of his skin color....I also think he was the best late night host ever.

They really can't steal because they have no originality of their own. The sad part about the business whether it's talk shows, skit comedy, sitcoms, they can never get back those audiences they had when the show happened. Yeah, they can rip it off but it won't have the same impact. It seems when networks have a hit show, they do all in their power to change the vision of it.

Arsenio Hall always had twice as many viewers as Letterman, so the local networks artificially and deliberately cut down Arsenio's ability TO BE WATCHED by his viewers by putting him on at different times or not carrying him altogether. He still went out with the highest ratings and at the peak of his show and career. A talk show that could get the elusive Michael Jackson (the largest entertainer in the world). Eddie Murphy, Mike Tyson, Ali, Bill Clinton, Ophra, Mc Hammer, and just about every famous MTV personality from the late 1980s-90s. But it suddenly gets cancelled because of "ratings"? There have been dozens of shows that had poor ratings but became network staples because the powers that be put marketing and advertising behind them. John Stewart was not really funny when he first started and Leno had a horrible show that did not pick up until a few years after he started. When a person's investments turn sour, you pull up your financial stakes & you invest elsewhere. Take a step back & see where AH's choice of guests focused: on who was popular at the moment. Popularity is fickle & fleeting. Audiences who choose to be entertained by such things often are restless in trying to satisfy their fix & will focus on the next "best" thing. When your premise is to present popular, it's a recipe for failure. Once you are perceived to be "yesterday's news" by your audience, you're doomed. It's time to close up shop. Which is exactly what he did & what his producers did. Nothing more, nothing less. Money. Money. Money.

I lived through those times. The reason the Arsenio show ended is because he became associated with the late 80s and very early 90s (big shoulder pads, colorful suits, high top haircuts on black guys, Vanilla Ice, Andrew Dice Clay, Iraq War, the last gasp of hair metal bands, Eddie Murphys prime years, etc.) and he just didn't make sense in a "grunge rock" world with muted colors, a popular president, and a desire to move away from the loud fluorescent 80s feel. Everyone could feel that the times had changed. He was part of a certain time.

*Actually, he reminds everyone of the '90s.* The Arsenia Hall Show _started late '80s,_ but ran through early '90s _(90,91,92,93,94)._ He has that 90's feel to him still, but it's the lineup of all those other Late Night Talkshows that affected his viewership: Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman... etc. That in addition to the *_Network wanting to dictate which direction_* Arsenio's Show should go *_caused a Fall Out so the executive producer stepped down due to creative differences_* on what would've really made the show stand out. Then the Network canceled the show.

I remember the Arsenio Show. It was an amazing show because it was like a concert every night. It definitely changed the late night game. When Jay Leno took over the Tonight Show - it literally BOMBED every single night in the ratings. So one can not blame a lack of ratings on the demise of the Arsenio Show. The network just killed the Arsenio Show because they could.

Anthony C Fletcher. It sure was the network that caused issue with Arsenios show. They kept bumping him to a later time too. Why is it some always try to get in the midst of people of color. I wasn't around when _Arsenio_ was in its first incarnation, but the second time I tune in almost every night. The second time around it was off to a solid start and ratings, and because of the comeback, It was initially renewed for a second season until CBS decided to reverse the decision overall. This was right before Fallon took over _The Tonight Show_ and had a big premiere week. Just watching random clips, interviews and reading articles Arsenio was ahead of his time in late night. Similar to what Don Cornelius did for _Soul Train_ and the _Soul Train Awards_ highlighting the best in black entertainment, Arsenio was the exact same way. I personally believe that booking Farrakhan as a guest is what caused the ultimate end of the show, and not due to low ratings as widely believed. Even when the show itself was fading out and other late night show hosts were open to allowing more diverse musical guests (R&B and hip hop) aside from pop music to perform, the show is entrenched in black American culture as well as hip hop culture. And to think it started with Nat King Cole 35 years prior (at a time when it was unheard of and likely impossible to be unapologetically black) to the day Arsenio broke through on late night, it can never be duplicated. Who could honestly do that in 2019?

I'll tell you guys why The Arsenio Hall Show was canceled. Because it went off the air after six successful seasons on syndication from 1989 until 1994. Produced by Arsenio Hall Communications and distributed by Paramount Domestic Television. It's the best late night show ever created.

Thank you for this! As a teenager I loved the Arsenio Hall show (Madonna's first appearance being my fav episode). Then one day it just disappeared off the air, and without an internet back then, no one knew why.
