Parents ask me all the time, “Why can’t my toddler fall asleep without me?!?”
**FREE TODDLER SLEEP MASTERCLASS: AwesomeLittleSleepers.com/yt_m...
I know it can sometimes feel like your toddler or preschooler is totally unable to fall asleep on their own. So you have to spend time sitting in their room just waiting for them to fall asleep so you can sneak out… That’s IF you don’t fall asleep in there too.
Well, today I’m going to show you why this is happening and what you need to understand before your child can be an independent sleeper.

Ever since we took away the pacifier, she never wants to nap and fights it. She just wants to sleep on us but we leave her in the crib but she cried and nothing worked. 😭 Even though she is tired.

So for a couple of weeks now me and my husband will sit in our 2yr old's room but he won't stay sleeping in his own bed if me and my husband leave his bedside

I understand the analogy and my child (2.5) was an independent sleeper until the toddler bed but now they cannot stay alone, they haven't verbally expressed fear but ask me to say with them and if I do leave, they beg me to keep the door open but doing so allows them to constantly come out of there room. I have thought about locking the door but will start aggressively potty training with no diaper fall back.

Did you end up having any luck with this? My little is same age and started waking and screaming for me to lay with her. I developed a bad habit while I was pregnant but now I have a newborn and trying to kick it feels impossible!

@@kidsister77This is the same for me. My daughter, now 3, was an independent sleeper until just 2 weeks ago when she turned 3. Now she wants someone in bed with her and she takes forever to fall asleep which upsets the morning routine because she's always crancky when she gets up.

What steps would you take to transition a toddler into being a independent sleeper so they don’t just follow you out the door or knock on the door/cry?

I teach the exact steps you should take in my toddler sleep course called Sleep Tight Without a Fight. Night-by-night detail of exactly how to get out of the room so your child learns to get comfortable falling asleep on their own. @@kidsister77 time. I had another baby and realized you can do EVERYTHING in your power, read every book, watch every video, etc. each individual kid is different. Some kids just won’t learn these ways because they are built different and need to depend on us. They have anxiety like we do, they have adhd like we do, so on and so forth. We can’t just give them a routine and magically that’s gone. Doesn’t work on us, why would it work on them?

@robcard I link these phases as a regression. Any change, whether cognitive, physical, or external can cause a regression and it can take WEEKS for the little one to settle again. The best and biggest tip anyone can take is that if you don't have a wind down routine, get one. If you do, great. The only thing you can do and control is this. Just stick with it prior to sleep and as the little one grows, they'll most likely get right back into the swing of it at some point. It might feel like forever but it is just a phase.

I’m so sorry.. maybe create some new habits so you can feel safe in your own space. Or a little room remodel to bring you some joy so you won’t wanna leave your room! Obviously I don’t know why you sleep with your mom or need her to fall asleep, but what I can tell you for certain is that having your own safe space, a little “haven” is so freeing! You can do this! Sending love ❤

Is iT harmfull for the child to sleep with the parents if the parents don't mind?

Not at all! As long as the child isn't an infant and co-sleeping is safe, that's no problem.

This is pretty common! Even if you don't plan to wean, you can still get your child to sleep in their own bed if you'd like.

It takes me 20-30 min each night to get 2 Yo to sleep. I have to rock him for most of the time before he sleeps then I put him in his bed. Often I have to get into the bed with him for another 20 min to get him to sleep
