Either sit down at the table until they’re gone or they eat until dinner time and don’t complain that you’re starving either .Thats what my parents used to say.

When my son was 2, we tried to potty train him one weekend a month for 3-4 months in a row without success. One day, he decided he wanted to pee in the potty, and that was that. However, we never got him to poo. Our daughter was born when he was 2.5, and he reverted in so many ways including sucking his thumb. We moved across country when he was 3 and she was 6 months old, and it was really hard on him. He regressed in his sleep when we moved and has had night terrors for months. Still doesn't want to poo. He did, however, decide he didn't want to sleep in pull ups anymore and hasn't had a bed accident for 6 months. He is almost 4, my daughter is now 15 months old, and he still won't try to poo on the potty. I feel like I missed the poo window. What do I do? Do I let him decide like he did with the pee OR do we try to potty train both of them at the same time when my daugther is 18-20 months old (he'll be just over 4). He's still not sleeping in his own room, either, but that's a whole different issue. I've been debating putting him in her room to share but I am afraid to mess up her beautiful sleep habits. Will starting with POO help the SLEEP issues we're having later or should I focus on SLEEP now and then let HIM decide on poo? So many questions. Thank you for this video!

I will always say to prioritize sleep first! But, then again, I'm a sleep coach! If you're having poo issues and have been for a while, I'd suggest reaching out to Jamie who I interviewed her to get her opinion.

These tips couldn't have come at a better time. My child almost 2.5 year old has been waking up consistently at 5a for the past almost two months now. It's been such a drain especially when I have to give attention to my 5 year old. We've been following another sleep training course but needed some fine tuning because he's still waking up early. I'm going to start implementing these tips tonight!

Hello, I really enjoyed your videos. My 19 month old daughter has been crying and screaming after I put her down for bedtime. She’s been doing this for about 12 weeks. She’s been a good sleeper since she was 1 years old . I have established a good bedtime routine since she was an infant. She gets a bath at bedtime and I read her a couple books before putting her in the crib. She sleeps with a white noise machine. I’ve tried adjusting wake windows . I start bedtime around 730pm and she falls asleep at 830pm. If I start bedtime at 7pm , she doesn’t fall asleep until 9. She naps from 12-2 or I’ve shortened nap from 12:30 -2pm but she still fights bedtime. I always have to wake her from her nap so maybe she needs 3 hours instead of only 2 hours? She always wakes up 7am every morning and sleeps through the night. My question is how long should she nap for and what time in the afternoon ? Is the nap interfering with bedtime? I feel it’s too early to drop the nap. Im sorry for this long rant but I’m all out tricks and not sure what to do .

My wife and I recently returned from a trip alone and my 4 year old sleep has gone downhill while we were away and since we have returned. Unfortunately, he was still in a crib and we had to transition him when we got back because he was throwing tantrums and jumping out. We have had some recent success with getting him to lay down at bedtime without throwing a tantrum or leaving the room, but the issue is still the night wakings. I believe it's driven mostly by separation anxiety from our trip and the transition. Sometimes we can take him back to bed and he will lay down. Other times, he will throw massive tantrums if we leave the room and begin grabbing and throwing things in his room. I have recently tried reassuring him briefly and giving him a hug and kiss and he stays in bed. I had heard you shouldn't really say anything to the child in the middle of the night. What can we do to limit or eliminate night wakings?

What about kids who won’t go to sleep for hours after being put into bed? I have a 3, almost 4 year old who has always struggled to fall asleep. Even as a newborn. We have done earlier and later bedtimes and it usually takes an hour plus for her to sleep. Sometimes up to 2 or more hours. She has a super consistent bedtime routine and takes no naps (if she takes an even a short nap she will not fall asleep until at least 10pm). She will usually go to sleep in minutes or less if we hold her and sing to her.
@toddlersleeptraining
@toddlersleeptraining 4 ай бұрын
I can't be totally certain but based on the limited information you've provided, if some nights you hold and sing to her and some nights you try and avoid doing that, she may be keeping herself awake to try and get you to come back to hold and sing to her. Once you set up a process to help her get comfortable sleeping on her own and you are no longer offering to hold and sing to her, she will be able to get used to falling asleep solo. I'm assuming, of course, that there are no underlying medical conditions. Have you taken my free Toddler Sleep Masterclass yet? The link is in the show notes if you'd like to join the next one.

Can you elaborate more on ignoring the negative behavior. So if they want a drink of water do you just ignore it and pretend they are not there? If they getting out of bed messing around laughing do I ignore and not come in the room? If they are getting out of their room do I ignore that and not do anything about it. Not sure what you mean by ignoring negative behavior.

You want to think about adjusting your attention to focus on the things they do well and avoid showering the negative behavior with attention. You can overcome their stalling by planning ahead. Hi Jessica. Exhausted parents here out of options. Our 3.5 year old son used to sleep through the night up until November 7th of this year. From that day until today January 23rd, he gets up multiple times a night restless and cries / screams until we come into his room and do most of the night-time routine all over to get him back to sleep. That includes rocking in the chair and singing a song he likes to sing before sleeping, then getting a drink of water and going back to sleep. He is in a crib still and shows no interest in climbing out of it. This has gone on for close to 3 months now and we are out of answers. My wife is also 7 months pregnant and needs the sleep at night. We can't keep doing this any longer. By the way, neither of us are comfortable with the crying it out method. He's been checked several times at his pediatrician with a clean bill of health. We genuinely have no clue what started waking him. He is on a very clean diet, gets plenty of food and play time during the day and takes naps. We follow nap times that allow for enough wake time in between and we've tried skipping naps and it doesn't make a difference. Any tips?

Very intresting advices. Our boy is 3 and a half. We were told never use food as prize or punishment. Never force him to eat if he doesn´t want to. No junk food, no sugary drinks, except in a party. When I put rice tomato and chicken on the plate he goes to the chicken, ends it and ask me for more chicken. Thats when I say "eat the rice and tomato to have more chicken", usualy works. I don´t praise him for eating. I try to teach with the example. By that I mean hiding in the closet to eat a chocolate and eating veggies in front of him saying "great carrot!". A role model. So far so good... perfect weight/age curve, he eats almost anything, only hates fish and stinky chesees.

Hi! I like your videos very much. They teach me about parenting in general appart from bedtime stuff. Thanks for making them. You say 8pm is bedtime. But my 3yo kid sleeps 10 hours, so putting him to sleep at that time means 6am waking. We put him to bed at 10pm just to have him wake at 8am so we, parents don't need to wake so early. Could you give me your opinion on this?
