Why Compatibility in a Relationship is Not About Sameness. Most people think "sameness" in a relationship is good because that means you're automatically compatible with your partner. But that is not always the case! Watch this video to find out more.

Same values, same goals, different personalities, different emotional needs (but good at meeting each other's needs) is a recipe for compatibility I encountered a few years ago.

Sounds like a great match. Your strengths and weaknesses match each other. It becomes hell when values, goals and attachment styles are wayyyy different while one party refuses to meet the other person's needs.

Many times in my life I was asking myself: Oh why can't I find a person that is like me - empathetic, people pleaser, "nice person" who does everything for others and would put me before him, someone who will care about my feelings and tell me pretty things, maybe lie a bit so I can feel better about myself. And you know what I got? A man that is brutally honest, often says: I love myself so much, I look so good, who knows he's good looking, prioritising himself, social butterfly, loved by everyone. And I got it. I got that the incompatibility I thought existed is actually exactly what I needed. I'm learning so much from him and he's my greatest teacher, after Teal Swan. He helped me to define my boundaries, express myself better, be honest, exit the victim mode and love myself more. 😄🥰

1000%! My girlfriends and I are type-A entrepreneurial visionary types. We all have husbands that are grounded and patient - opposite of us, because it is compatible! I’ve dated people who are too much like me and it was not compatible for day to day life. It may sound unromantic, but when choosing a life partner, there are functional compatibility things that must be considered. Just as you may love some of your friends but would NEVER travel with them, when choosing for long term, you must consider who you want to spend everyday life with. The traits may be different from someone you would have a fling with. 🙂

Absolutely. What do you do though when you marry someone you’re not attracted to and they’re attracted to you? That’s what happened with me and my husband and now that he has passed away, I feel so guilty. He deserved someone who loved him in that way, but I just didn’t. But I loved him so much that I would have done anything for him. I took care of him when he was suffering from Lewy body dementia even though he became violent and hit me many times. Previously he was a very gentle man and would’ve died before hitting anyone, especially a woman. Romantic love is so confusing to me. I think it always will be and I’m in my 60s.

Going through exactly this while trying to find the right musicians to fit my new band. So far I found a bassist who is committed to play my songs, and a drum machine I can order around (lol). I was working with a friend guitarist but his musical influences and mine were galaxies apart; we tried to make it work, but failed miserably. With some musicians you feel the "click" immediately, while others never even come close to "getting it". Peace.

Often times I've found life will bring us people that usually do NOT have the same preferences as us on the external level , to challenge our capacity to unconditionally love the other even though we both have different preferences. Of course this isn't always the case, but a lot of the times it is , and I find that there are a lot lessons to be learned to increase our capacity to hold the frequency of unconditional love when someone like this comes into our life. Great video Teal ! Thanks for being one of the people that inspires me to post videos every single day . Much Love 🙏

Yes I agree the most important compatiblity you can share with someone is to love each other unconditionally and stay committed despite the differences that may come about. I mean, if you followed Teal's advice, you would be left with pretty much no one because no one is perfectly compatible with you. But plenty of people still know how to commit.

It’s sort of the opposite of sameness. I see my wife and I as puzzle pieces. What is similar is our general treatment of humanity and nature is rooted in respect that manifests as Kindness and generosity (time not money), Those two things are the cornerstone of any relationships growth.

You also have to remember that you don't stay the same throughout your lifetime. Someone who loves to clean but hates to cook, can start cooking and luv it! This is just an example. Obviously if your partner grew to love ❤ cooking it's probably not going to break up the relationship. But, someone who was content to stay home with the kiddos and then became career driven again-that might cause issues. Or someone who was nice and then became an asshole-yeah that's gonna be a problem lol

This sameness relationships are really good for growth tho. Excelent for teacher - student relationships, for learning. Its like working together shoulder to shoulder rather than face to face(like in a compatible one). Just like 2 magnets. Meeting someone like you, who makes arguments like you make will cause conflict and growth but 2 people like this cant live together. Also compatibilty is really good but it can cause so much validation that it can even lead to stagnation ... i think both kinds of relationships are important

I feel this. A person that’s similar to you can really see you and know how to push you farther. They can see what you’re capable of. Everyone else might just think you’re good enough. They go down similar thought patterns so it’s interesting to you. But no one is exactly the same so it’s like having two brains.

Oh my God, this is so funny! My husband passed away recently and he was the love of my life, but for some reason I’m so lonely that I keep thinking of an ex-boyfriend who really wasn’t very nice to me, but to whom I was extremely attracted. I’ve been having the urge to call him even though I know that’s not the right thing for me and I really don’t want to because it hasn’t even been a year yet since my husband passed away and I’m grieving something terrible. I cry every day, but I can’t get this other person out of my mind. When she said to think of that person that you’re so attracted to as the ugliest person you’ve ever seen and then reassess their behavior, that completely changes the way I think of him. He was so self-centered that he never even noticed when he stepped on other people’s feelings. I’m not sure he even knew people had feelings. He was kind to homeless people though. 😊

Hey Teal, would you mind linking the videos you mention in your description? It would make it a lot easier to jump to them rather than searching. (If that’s something you’ve already considered but isn’t something you think is worth the time/energy in your production, I totally get it 😁)

Basically compatibility means being able to offer something and/or accept something which creates a reaction of joy and satisfaction. Someone else cannot make you happy if you're already able to give what they have to offer to yourself.

Well, I’m not attract to someone like me so that’s good. The incompatibilities I come across are I’m a fast mover when I know what I want and he’s a slow mover who takes time to get to know what he wants.

As a person who came into this world "different" and has knowledge to teach, I would like to know how people like her started out sharing their knowledge. Did she start giving it to people he knew? Like family, friends? Because for me, no one wants to hear it. And it seems like I cant manifest a career in the knowledge if I'm not sharing it. But how do I do that if no one wants it.

I think this is what the polarity mean. Too people with too much yang for exemple can never match. For exemple I’m a really sensitive person and my ex was like me really emotional make a lot of drama. And it was really complicated because I needed someone to be stable. To be more rational. For exemple I like to cook I’m a really creative personne si i like really intelligent guy in tech for exemple. I know I can bring him joy and softness. And he can bring me security and stability.

HiTeal ( you’re so pretty - others have said that too when I’ve shared your podcast), do check out the compatibility of people based on their chinese zodiac signs……think there is someting there just because the art is thousands of years old. Cheers Pretty Girl.

My best friend of over 10yr is complete opposite of me but we're so attached to each other.. we started out as 'enemies' in middle school , naturally because of how different we are, she's very private and hates friendly people, that's me 😂 while i just don't like her tenseness..but guess what, we slowly warmed up to eachother in highschool, and surprisingly! We just somehow get along, yes we argue a lot, due to her lack of communication and my habit of confrontation.. but along the way, we learn to try to understand eachother and yes, my ego is kinda small, I'm quite shameless and honest, no I'm not putting myself up on pedestal but rather being more self aware than people around me, while she on the other hand, is very loyal and puts so much efforts in something or someone she loves.. so i tend to acknowledge my shortcomings and apologize while she likes showing her efforts by actions so for example she'd cook something for me as an apology.. we're so different and that's what makes our friendship grow, because we can learn something new from eachother thus broaden our perspectives..but the things we have in common is actually we both tend to shove our feelings down ,we both craves for something meaningful but are afraid to lay it all bare, we both tends to wants to be a better person, we both are 'childish but old souls' deeps down so, when things are hard, we'd open up about our feelings spontaneously..
