Why do cops have tubes in their ear? Are earpieces made for Motorola police radios? Do earpieces break? www.commgearsupply.com/ www.freefieldtraining.com/

I work at a large agency, over 1000 Officer. It is mind blowing to me how few officers run an ear piece. The constant feedback and having to tell your partner to turn their radio down because you want to key up is exhausting.

I work in a department of a similar size and officers that have an ear piece are thought of as clowns. Wish we had them but it’s a cultural thing here not to use them

We are the same way and I think part of it comes from old timers liek me having really negative experiences with them breaking early in our careers.

Old timer here; I don't like ear pieces because I'm hard of hearing. You'd think they'd help, but where they really hurt is in dealing with hysterical suspects/victims who won't stop talking. Competing sounds really lower my ability to comprehend what is being said. Most people, *most*, will stop talking when they hear the radio. For the few that don't, it easy to tell them "stop talking I'm on the radio". Since they hear it and see it, I've gotten better results overall. Naturally, standard caveats apply and you'll still get someone who just doesn't know when to shut up. As far as the felon with the warrant; I just assume everyone is going to fight. And I just turn it down when creeping up on a DV and the like. And if you've been on the job long enough, you just kinda know when radio chatter is coming, so I just cover my mic with my hand when appropriate.

I worked security at a rodeo and omg from the crowd screaming to the loud speakers I could barely hear my co workers so I invested in a push to talk, noise canceling earpiece

Earpieces should be mandatory. I got my own less than a year into hospital security work. It's incredibly helpful to not have the radio blaring, especially when responding to codes or dealing with someone in psychosis in a seclusion room. We very often had to assist with psych patients and all manner of people that came in with police. Basically the job was to physically manage, or verbally de-escalate and out loud radio calls made that harder, or could trigger someone's paranoia.

I work event security for music concerts and sporting events. I find using earpieces more practical so I can hear better over the radio when I'm around crowds of people or exposed to loud music. Good advice for cops and non-LEO folks like me. Keep up the good work sir.

Amen...when I have a bunch of newbie volunteers working at a large event I offer them up and they can experience how it helps with hearing in the crowd, feedback loops, and keeping our radio conversations discreet. I find and buy up the OTTO brand ones (made in USA) in bulk and have a big cookie jar full of new sets at my desk. 😁
@JS-ek3ro4 ай бұрын
Otto is good. Lasted 2 years hard use before I had to replace it. Numerous clear tubes and molded ear pieces otherwise best I’ve found so far. Free from work is a plus too. Everyone gets one when they start on the road which I think is great

I run a two ear, ear piece from N-ear. A bit speedy, but I get 2.5-3 years out of it. The 2 ear was as big a positive change as going from none to one.

another vote for N ear. pricey up front, but absolutely worth every penny, and the customer service is fantastic.

Sorry, it's from: www.commgearsupply.com/ There are about. Thousand options and such so you would have to search which one works for your radio and mic setup.

I despise the tube type. They were never comfortable, so i quit using them. Last year, I bought a tubeless N-ear and absolutely loved it. It only lasted a few months before it got snagged and broke. Using Klein now.

Great show, like always Illinois officer! Wisconsin cop here 25 years in. How is that Kore belt, sir? I have been using my Safariland basket weave leather and pouches for 25 years. On my second belt. Started with the 94 it wore out in 2014. I have been using my Uncle Mike's on the boat patrol and my Safariland with the buckle on night patrol.

I'd imagine that a veteran convict would still be familiar with that phrase and react the same way, knowing it's probably pertaining to something negative in regard to them. We use earpieces and they still get nervous when the return takes longer than normal because they know it's usually a quick return when they're clear.

I always run an earpiece. in a pinch a pair of cheap earbuds can work as well. I keep a pair with one side cut off in my bag for that reason. I have found I like the listening tube style like yours better than the full wired earbud style.

I found bone conducting units tend to rub on the side of my head. Maybe it was just me or the helmet I was wearing over it but they literally rubbed me the wrong way.

I think it's nuts that some “old timers” frown upon the use of earpieces. It's much more convenient, private, and safer in my opinion. However, I will note that I work in an area that gets a lot of rain and a few of my colleagues and I have experienced the earpieces malfunctioning badly when exposed to high amounts of moisture. It's only happened a few times, but when it did, some officers had theirs cause their radios to key an open mic nonstop, which is pretty bad. Again, it's not common and we use higher quality (agency-provided) earpieces, but it's something to think about. Just my two cents. As always, great info in the video, and thank you for your service FFT!

Hello, I find myself going through the earpieces way too quick, the elbow just rips out of the silicone and tears it. Is there any earpieces you can suggest that are a bit more durable? They are basically only lasting a 2 weeks at this point. Thank you!

I have used the over the ear, earpiece and I can't recommend it if you wear glasses, it is very uncomfortable and painful for me, maybe the in ear piece would resolve that but my company doesn't allow it.

I started using a $20 Amazon earpiece and it works great. I haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve used it for about two years now. So much more convenient than using the shoulder mic.

It baffles me how large your individual radios are and that you arent issued earpieces standard.
