It’s also funny how similar aurthur became like Hosea after he died. Not only were they both sick but they also tried to save as many gang members before they died.

Arthur says in his journal he always considered Hosea more of a father figure to Dutch although he’d never outright say it. Ironically they both experienced the loss of love and a chance at a normal life and family so they both stay with the gang bc it’s all they have to one. Arthur is literally a younger Hosea especially in chapter 6

i think yes they are similar. but hosea wasn’t as ruthless as arthur in chapter 6. arthur was just tired of all the bs and he wanted to get everyone out, not save them while they stay with dutch

I always see Hosea staying until the end, just like Arthur. The gang was his life. He tried to get out of it with Bessie in his younger days but he naturally drifted back in and wanted everybody to be taken care of like John, Lenny, Arthur, etc.

Hosea stayed despite saying he hasn't got long left to live, because he cared about the others in the gang, and didn't want them to be killed over an idea, that ultimately ended in death. He did what be could to persuade them to leave before it was too late.

Hosea reminds me A LOT of Uncle Iroh from atla. - Done wrong things in the past, but saw the error of their ways and tried to bring up the young minds around them - Really likes taking it easy - Considered the wise one - WILL fuck your shit up if you mess with them. Thank anyone who actually reads this 😂

Hosea knew at some point the fun was going to end it was just a matter of time and he wanted to be there for everyone and give his blessing to leave the gang just how Arthur did in beaver hallow.

I think power was what made Dutch show his true colours let me explain in chapter 1-4 Dutch and Hosea were in charge with Arthur having authority over most of the gang but still doing physical work for the gang but as the game goes on before the gang go after Bronte he keeps wanting Micah involved going so far as to say he was the only one with any loyalty left because Micah would never question his orders so after Hosea died Dutch needed a new partner but after seeing Arthur Judge his actions on guarma he chose Micah as his partner because he knew that anything he said would be enforced because no one would argue with him and why after John returned he just stopped asking Arthur's opinion going so far as to leave him behind to die. Now this may be controversial so put down your pitch forks but I don't personally think Micah was the soul reason why the gang was destroyed now it was a huge factor with him ratting them out and telling Dutch to leave Abigail behind but throughout the game we see Dutch become less saint like and more like a common criminal earlier in the game Arthur said if Dutch hid away in a cave somewhere it's the same as admitting he's a common criminal and that's what he does in the beginning everything with Dutch was either just business or survival anything he did was for the gang and wasn't too rash but chapter 3 he thought he could rob both families which resulted in Sean's death and Jack being kidnapped chapter 4 he announced they are going to Tahiti and now that was there main goal but Dutch wanted revenge on Bronte and we start to see this violent side of him and then we see how he turned out it was his own fault the gang split up because he got sloppy and as uncle said he wants to be an American king now all Dutch needed to convince people he was the Messiah when all he wanted was people who would fight and die for him and I think that's why he brought in Micah and yes he did say he wasn't gonna cut anyone lose when he suggested it but Micah is a common criminal and I think Dutch wanted this man to get along with the rest of the gang so Dutch can finally do what he wants because it's a huge mystery why Dutch kept Micah and wanted him and Arthur to get along and this is going to be the most controversial opinion of all but I don't think Dutch wanted to kill Micah solely to avenge Arthur I think he had a plan to take over Micah's gang after killing Micah it's just why did Dutch wait so long to do it and when Micah has a gang it always felt odd to me if he really wanted to Avenge Arthur he would have spent the next few years tracking the rat down not wait 8 whole years he wanted a gang to control and knew Micah would a have given him the opportunity

I think one big reason why Hosea wasn't as driven as Dutch is because he never leaded that gang. He once had a "family" of his own, the gang wasn't only thing he lived for instead of Dutch.

What if in Chapter 3 rather then try to play the grays and braithwaits against each other Hosea convinced Dutch to put all their weight behind the Grays? first off Sean survives second after burning Braithwait manor suddenly the VanDerLynd gang are the heroes to the Gray family and they may provide cover against the Pinkertons so the gang doesnt have to move to Saint Dennis

The Grays were crappy in their own way, but to my knowledge they only started acting hostile to the gang after the gang betrayed them. Always felt bad killing the deputy since he was never anything but polite and straightforward to Arthur. It was especially silly because I think it's obvious to everyone that you had already betrayed the Braithwaites before you even started working with them, and then it's still all like "oh no how could they betray us???" lmao.

I liked Hosea, he was one of my favourite characters in the game. His calm manner, plus his pearls of wisdom were what I found to be the reason why Hosea was an enjoyable character to interact with at camp. The missions with just him and Arthur in were some of my favourite missions too, when I think of it 🤠👍

1, because that life was all he knew and 2, he actually CARED for the other members and stated as such, knowing his time was nearing its end. He knew he was sick/dying (probably of lung cancer) and wanted to make sure the people he cared about were in a good way before he passed. He was the one force that kept Dutch's more sociopathic side in check.....until Micah showed up and tipped the scale. Even Arthur saw it, but was blindly loyal to Dutch, until after the bank robbery, then seeing him kill the old Spanish woman for no reason, leaving John to possibly die in prison and then the final straw, when Dutch listened to Micah to abandon Abigail to the Pinkertons

Dutch was the dreamer and Hosea was the realist. He was with Dutch and his plans, but also understood that gone unchecked would lead to disaster. We see, after his death during the Saint Denis bank robbery, that Dutch doesn't allow for anyone else's opinion or input when it comes to making plans. Micah did plan a lot with Dutch during Beaver Hollow but it seemed to be more of being Dutch's #1 yes-man. There was no one there to temper the flame and thus lead to everything burning to the ground.

I think that hosea stays for the gang, but mostly Arthur because hosea has such an influence on Arthur and Arthur would not operate the same way as he did. Arthur even says in the game that he sees hosea as a father.

My simple answer given the day is going to be cheesier than a French mousetrap, but here it is. Love. He loved the gang. It's why he went back to them even with Bessy. He was still a part of that family. The women, the children, others like Lenny, Arthur and John he cared about. Yes there were those like Micah and Bill, like those idiot cousins you wish you didn't know, but overall he wanted the family he knew to be safe. If that meant giving up his remaining time to do so by trying to steer Dutch away from the worst decisions, then so be it. He wasn't judgmental about anyone wanting to get out and would have been happy to see John's family or any of the others ride off to a better life.

I’ve said this before. RDR3 should be early Van Der Lin gang where the player can switch like in GTA V to Arthur, Dutch and Hosea. You play to the strengths of the character. Arthur held at gun point? Shoot your way out. Dutch needing money? Pick who, what, when, where to rob. Let’s get a true Wild West game. Something to the effect of having a small town like Tombstone. The final chapter can end in black water and set up directly to rdr2.

I think Hosea stayed so he could try and get as many people to leave the gang before it’s too late, or he new he wouldn’t have long left and thought “im going to stay cause I’m dying”, he wanted to try and reason with Dutch as much as possible too so he wouldn’t lead the gang to it’s demise whilst still trying to get the women and child out, like you saw with John, it could be a mixture of things but I think those are some possible reasons

I am writing an Evaluation in my English course where we pick something you feel strongly about, and I picked Red Dead Redemption II. I am looking for suggestions of 3-4 main aspects of the game that make it great, what counter arguments people will have against the game and rebuttals to counter the counterarguments, and games/movies that I can compare Red Dead Redemption II to. I am looking for suggestions on all of these aspects of the paper and figured this would be the perfect community to ask.

I’d take a prequel that followed Hosea from before he knew Dutch until Blckwater. I’d really like to see what they came up with narratively, and he is genuinely a very mysterious character. For all we know, he may be a deadly shot himself. It would genuinely give “redemption” a whole new meaning. It would also potentially tie everyone in the story together start to finish.

If you look at things. Often there are criminals that stand out. Most of the people in the gang had talents other than robbing and killing. Arthur could read and write well. At this time there were many people who didn’t know how to. And he could draw well. He could have been working in a newspaper making money. But that life of an outlaw was instilled in him. In another life Arthur and most of the other gay members had a legit life. lol he got married. Let me tell you that this game is a 10/10! I felt Arthur’s death. I like most people ran online to see if I could have done anything differently to save him 🤦🏽‍♂️

The question I always ask myself when it comes to Red dead 2 is if Hosea was alive for the showdown of beaver hollow, how would've that have gone. Would Hosea have been on Arthur and John's side or Dutch's side or might he have shot Micah on the spot or could he have de-escalted the whole situation???

I think Hosea and Arthur were going to stick with Dutch no matter what. Not because he was right but out of being loyal to the gang. Worst thing you can do is leave a man when he's down, after he's done so much for you. Even Arthur himself told told Sadie he have to see it through til the end.

Hosea was Dutch’s rock, when he died Dutch was gone and never coming back. That was clear throughout the games because even though Dutch was declining mentally from the start because he couldn’t accept that the word was becoming civilized and outlaw life was at its end, he had hope for the gang and tried to keep his shit together and Hosea always challenged him when needed and kept Dutch’s head straight and was the angel on his shoulder, after he was killed by Agent Milton, Dutch just progressed into being a cold hearted villain.

IIRC, Hosea did try and make an escape and live a quiet clean life with his wife but it didn't pan out and he returned to the Van Der Linde gang, possibly more than once. He keeps ending up back with the gang, until he doesn't fight it, but rather chooses to fight for the gang. I always wonder if he realized he was needed more to keep Dutch in check, that there was no one else who could do that job, it's like a sense of duty.

hosea knew dutch better than anyone. he knew dutch was all talk when it came to their outlaw heroes persona. i think hosea saw the gang for what it was, a loose family of cons, crooks and killers. the thing is, he accepted that and cared deeply for his people, and wanted the best for them. he didn't take dutchs sweet talk seriously because he just loved the man for who he was, not who he portrayed himself as to the world. and same to the rest of the gang. you don't turn your back on family
