Here where I live they are basically going to force everyone to go EV in the next 10 years, they are trying their best to get rid of every old diesel and other classic cars because they claim them to be bad for the enviroment. Taxes are rising and gas and diesel prices are now above the 2 euro per liter mark, (2$ per gallon). Prices rise around every month or so, used car market is so hot even the biggest heaps of shit sell for 2000 euro's max. I think late 90s early 2000s cars will really gain popularity. They are the last cars without a big infotainment screen in them. So they're modern enough to have good drivetrains, no overheating problems but the dashboards are clean without a big screen in the middle.

yah - that was the very tail end of cars that you could MAYBE work on by yourself without needing to re-program it every time you crack the hood and tinker with something, even then though after '97 or so they got more rare. If the visual design of the 80's and early 90's cars had been just a little bit better I think that time period would go down as the most coveted era of cars in all history but as it is, it's the perfect time period because you get fuel injection, you get overdrive, you get a level of comfort and reliability that was unheard of before 1982 (ish) but it's still mechanical enough that someone with a little bit of skill can practically rebuild the whole thing in their own garage.

Ford peaked in the mid 90s. The round nose was shit and the loss of the 300 is still mourned. It's been downhill since. Dodge peaked with the small grill bubble hood, aka the walker Texas ranger truck. The last good looking Chevy was the body style before the cat eye. 1990 to 2005 was the absolute pinnacle of automobile. Ever since then everything is over priced and overcomplicated. And nobody needs a screen in the dash.

It's the same with similar age F-150s and all ages of Dodge Ram/D series trucks. But I think it's not all nostalgia. When new trucks are selling north of $70K, $20K for a reliable simpler truck makes complete sense, especially with the level of aftermarket customization support available to make an old truck uniquely yours.

I got lucky with the truck I bought this month. A new guy we got was helping sell his friends truck. The friend wanted 3k cuz he paid that when he bought it. I didn't get much to look at but I got to see and ride in it. The market for trucks has gotten nuts. I can't find anything for less than 6k. This truck had 4wd, which was a priority. My surprise when I opened the hood was it had the 5.4L Triton. Those are really good engines. They can be supercharged if I wanted. There's no AC compressor, so I got time to save up for that. It has 273k miles and runs healthy. The body has some dents and a few rust spots but other than that it's a sturdy truck. The previous owner put 10 ply tires on it and there are no cracks. Windshield is cracked I know how much it is to replace. Bought a replacement cushion for the drivers seat on ebay because you can't buy OEM seats anywhere. I plan to make this truck look nice. Not going to do a full restoration or go crazy with mods or put a roll cage, just clean it up and use it how it should be used.

I was calling it back in 2010. It’s largely my generation going that was dad’s truck. I’ve got childhood memories of riding around the passenger seat of one. That truck currently has 300,000 miles and 90% of those miles I was riding shotgun as a kid in it. As for your point on big cars I actually completely agree. In 2014 I bought one for $650. It was a 2 door 66 impala and in 2020 I bought a 66 4 door Belair for $2000 and it’s my daily driver. When I bought the impala I said at the time I’m trying to get ahead of the curve before the things become impossible to get. In that time I’ve watched the price on the two cars go up. The Belair was already a $5000 car when I found it but I already knew the way the market was going based on the two door I have owned since 2014 that the 4 door was going to start gaining value based on two things. One you can hop in it and drive it every day if you have mechanical knowledge and a couple tools so the pandemic itself was going to have an affect. but 2 the supply of the “cool cars” was going to dry up. I’m going to say it now in trucks though I think late 55-59 Chevy trucks are going to make a comeback here soon too

I just sold my 60,000 mile buick park avenue from Florida in ct for $3500 to a kid who just graduated from college. I think Rabbit hit the nail on the head with the next big swing.

What? Mexico is loaded with these trucks at good prices. The normal configuration here is regular cab short bed 1/2 ton.

What pisses me off about the used car market is how people on Offer up Spam the shit out of the app with fake offers and they effectively silence anyone who is trying to sell their car used orginal owner.

You can't touch any first gen ram with a 12 valve Cummins for anything reasonable. Odometer broke 10 years ago at 400k miles, roof rotted to shit, interior completely trashed, 4 flat tires, "15k firm, i know what i got"

I don't know why but my 1991 opel kadett 1.2s (US version is a pontiac lemans) in an undesirable color with an undesirable engine, which i bought for €350 when they went for €351 all day long. Left it sitting under my carport for 3 years eating dust. And i sold it last week with a wonky leaky engine and stuck on brakes for 4 times what i payed for it.

I bought a 2000 k3500 crew cab with the 7.4 Vortec, not knowing I’d have people beating my door down asking to buy it. Haven’t had it a year yet, and had to put a sign in the window saying “not for sale”. It’s a fantastic truck, and does work as a daily driver. I don’t doubt if I wanted to flip it for a profit, I could fairly easy.

My first car I ever saw that I wanted was a brand new Chevy SS 454 when I was young a guy bought 3 of them brand new to keep and sell at his small garage in a town about 1hr from me and I'll NEVER forget the first time seeing it!

I've got a 1998 Yukon that isn't especially nice, but isn't rusted out (Arizona truck) or beat "too too" badly and people keep approaching me to buy it. even if I get the "right number" thrown at me I don't know what I would replace it with. you can't beat it for interior size and "utility". even with the gutless 5.7 vortec its a nice driver. so say someone gives me 6 or 8 grand for it because they NEED it for whatever reason... i would necessarily need to spend all of it on a vehicle that I probably wouldnt be nearly as happy with.
