Since my Toyota Tundra was totaled, it was time for another overland rig to build up and go exploring with.
To the surprise of many, I ended up buying a 2021 Ram Rebel and will be modifying it according to my taste.
In this video, I will explain the reason for choosing the Rebel instead of another Toyota Tundra. Some Pros and Cons with the truck based on my initial impressions, and mods planned for the immediate future.

I think you won’t be disappointed with the ram. It’s a solid truck. The one thing I wanted to share with you is the aftermarket exhaust…the problem I had was when the truck went into eco mode and it turned off the cylinders I got a terrible drone noise…i ended up using a programmer to turn off eco mode to fix the problem.

I'm loving this change you've made however unfortunate it's been. I'm sorry that you had the total loss of your Tundra. In my family my wife drives a Tundra and I have a Ram 1500. We're big fans of you and what you've posted on social media overall. My wife and I have done some mods on her Tundra but now it's my turn. I'm so stoked to see what you have in store for us Ram guys. Please keep posting! Thanks for doing so brother!

Welcome to the Rebel club bud. I’ve had my Rebel for 2yrs, 48K miles and have had Zero issues. Absolute monster off-road. Get the lift kit on it through the dealer so it doesn’t impact the warranty. Be interested in seeing your mods. I’m exploring caps for mine right now as well.

That wrap looks great! My ‘21 Rebel I ordered in February just arrived at the dealer. It’s out getting window tints, hope to have it by the weekend! I traded an ‘18 Rebel and prior to that had a ‘13 RAM Sport, next to no issues over the past 9 years with my RAM’s. And this is from someone that swore off Dodge in the late 80’s.

Welcome to the 5th Gen RAM Fam man. I literally found your channel because of your wrap video on your Tundra. Believe it or not its actually one of the most comprehensive videos on DIY Vinyl wrapping on a full sized truck on KZfaq. I used it as a guide for wrapping my own RAM, and while its unfortunate about your Yoda, this is actually really awesome to see you in a Rebel now. Congratulations on the new Rebel, Edward! Brother, I think it is a sweet machine and I nearly bought a Dodge Ram truck, all black. I opted for a '19 GMC Savana 2500 cargo van instead. I'm about 80% completed on my conversion. In two months, I will leave my bricks and mortar abode in Virginia and begin my adventure, i.e. traveling and living throughout the lower 48, Canada and Alaska. I will most likely be based in Sacramento, CA, at my sister's home. I hope to I get an opportunity to meet all of you guys up in the Northwest as you all are top notch people and overlanders. My rig won't be set up or capable of 4X4 activities initially as I want to live in it almost full time.

I’ve been following your channel for probably a few years now and loved what you did with the Tundra but I’m really excited what future episodes will bring since I’m a fellow 5th gen Rebel owner. A lot of the reasons you mention in your video are the same ones which led me to choose the Ram but I also have similar concerns. A tough one would be overcoming the lack of support for the platform when you are probably used to the plethora of aftermarket components for Toyota’s. Anyhow keep up the good work. 👊🏼

Love your truck man those rebels are nice for sure. I like the aggressive look they have. I recently was in the market for a off-road camping type truck to build on and was deciding between a rebel and a Jeep gladiator. I ended up getting a gladiator which I love. As far as reliability is concerned I feel like with all the newer vehicles it’s mostly just dependent on maintenance. As long as you take care of it, it will last. No truck brand is perfect. Enjoy it brother looking forward to see the build progress!

Wow that's a sharp looking truck, congratulations! I wouldn't 2nd guess reliability of the Ram. I say that because I went from a Tacoma to a Ram 2500 diesel. After 2 years and 35,000 miles the only issue was a thermostat but that's on Cummins more than Ram. I had 2 tacos and without going into detail they were far from trouble free, although I do think they are well made and I liked how they drove. Bottom line is everything has issues, drive what makes you happy. I installed dura tracs about 6,000 miles ago, deep snow performance is fantastic.

The true reliability face will show up after car/truck sees 3 years of seasons. Living up to weather of each season is what ages car/truck mostly, and is not that much a mileage. Glad you have your truck doing well!

Congrats on the buy. I think you will enjoy the new truck. From having driven most of the trucks including the Tundra I just couldn't pass on the Rebel (first gen). You can't beat the fact that you can fit up to 315/70/r17 with no lift at all and no cutting needed. Now running carli king performance suspension and it drives like a Cadillac pretty much. As far as reliability I would say look at it this way, the engine and transmission are solid and they perform great while having more power. The fuel economy will be better and it will simply be more comfortable plus safety is a key factor as well. My truck has over 200k km on it and most has been modified and have done countless jumps on the truck still kicks ass. The only issues I had was the cruise control acting up and the exhaust leaking. Do the maintenance and it will be amazing. In order to be innovative you have to push the reliability I believe. I worked at a Toyota dealership and honestly they break just as much ( water pumps, wheel bearing, steering racks, and the leaf springs strangely enough). Also look at the sales. It can't be that the wast majority of truck buyers are dumb. Toyota makes such a small percentage of the sales and I wonder why if it is the " greatest truck to be made". Keep up the great videos and dont worry about the reliability. It will prove itself. 😁

I have a 2020 Tundra SR5 double cab TRD with the 6'7" bed. I have had it a year now. 20k miles. The options I had on it was all I wanted and Ram, Ford F150, Chevy/GMC, would have cost about 5k more. I generally don't off road in it but live in the country with a lot of dirt roads. Volunteer Firefighter with a lot of tree down calls. Carry a chain saw, straps&chains and have pulled sizeable trees off the road. It is a "beast!" Metallic gray like your "beloved" Shadow! Great job on your videos and you can make your new Ram Rebel into what you want I am sure! Good for you!!

Good looking truck. Congrats. Looking forward to the new build. I followed you because I recently bought a 2021 Tundra. After talking to my mechanic and doing a bit of research I decided on Tundra for safety, reliability…and how much they hold their value compared to the others. There’s a reason why you found a Dodge in this crazy market but couldn’t find a Tundra. Having said that, I’m sure you will get a lot of miles out of the Dodge since you will probably take care of it more than the average driver. Happy Father’s Day.

The reason is entirely because of Toyobois fan base spreading absolute nonsense like these vehicles don’t break I fix all of these vehicles I see Toyotas all the time and I’ll tell you the parts for them compared to other companies is absolutely insane also don’t get in a small fender bender with a Toyota or you’ll most likely end up a quadriplegic it’s basically just a cheap plastic cup with wheels NOTHING is made to last anymore

New to your channel but I have to say im impressed and enjoyed your video. I appreciate the non biased aspect and great video editing I’ve had. A. 2007 ram 1500 reg cab 2012 crew cab 2021 crew cab And now a 2022 ram crew cab built to serve addition My 07 had 4.10 gears and held its own in tug a war against a 3/4 Chevy 6.0 The 2012 I had. I beat the crap out of like really bad. And after about 110k miles the only issues I ever had were things that I did. Never the truck failing me The 21 I only had for a year and out about 20k miles on it. Only issue I had was the waiter fluid hose got clogged somehow The 22 that I have now is just amazing The ride is superb. The alpine stereo sounds amazing. I do have 3.21 gears on it but it toes my small travel trailer with ease Going forward I will be adding a suspension under it. Either the icon stage five or the carli Definitely looking forward to more videos on your truck I personally haven’t experienced any kind of issues with my rams. I grew up die hard Chevy but for now ram is doing amazing things And the 5.7 is dialed in. No one can knock the Toyotas but the ram is definitely worth at the least for people to test drive and see for them selves how far along ram has come

Keep up on putting in Techron concentrate to keep the fuel gauge sender from going out. Big TSB problem on the new Rams.

Subbed. I’ve had my 2021 Rebel for a few mo the now and have done several mods to it. LOVING the truck and the interior is just killer. If you haven’t added the Sprint Booster to yours I’d highly recommend it! Takes that little bit of throttle lag right out. I’ve got the Trigger 4 system in mine with Rough Country Black series pods and light bar on my camper shell. It’s a sweet setup!

As A 5th gen RAM owner I'm really looking forward to watching this come together. Shifts and grins makes brakets for rear hooks from the TRX and I installed builtright molle bedside racks in mine. If you aren't on the 5th gen forum you should think about joining. A lot of good info there it's very active.
