It takes many generations to unlearn bias and exclusionary thinking, as well as to learn how to fit in by being productive in another ethnic group's paradigm. These are things learned before age 4 by listening to and observing parents, and change little as one gets older. Change is a little bit per generation. It took 300 years to evolve from widespread slavery and servitude to this talk.

👏👏👏 BRAVO! Wonderful speach. Also I can see a story of mixed race or mixed cultured peoples and finding where people feel themselves fit in society.

women, people of color- all of these "minorities" have had to inherently work harder to get where they are. That's why they deserve their own category for awards. If we lived in a world where everyone had equal chances at success, then awards should obviously also be given indiscriminately. But we don't. It's a beautiful example of equity, not in the workplace but in a celebratory event!

That makes no sense, other than to keep segregation alive. MLK. Jr's plea for people to be judged on content of character, not on the color of their skin has been completely lost.

@@buzzcrushtrendkill One day it might be possible to fulfill that plea. But first it must be acknowledged that it is currently not extant. Which is precisely why we shouldn’t treat it as such. This is not a problem that can or should be solved by a “fake it till you make it approach” where we all pretend everything is equal. That’s exactly how systemic racism was born after actual segregation. We have to acknowledge that the world is not fair, and that some people had to work a lot harder to achieve certain goals- they had to battle wars that were wholly irrelevant to them in the first place. Pretending like the world is perfect will only facilitate oppression. I'm not saying it should always be like this- just while we get there.

Since when did women have to work harder than men? That's ludicrous. Men put in way more hours. You live I fantasy land.

That presumption that any/every one, as a minority, has "worked harder" than others is a self-exalting myth, in my actual experience. One that begs for favoring, instead.
