You could do a whole episode on the lower back pain. I solved mine through a bike fit, lots of pilates, and I started warm down stretching properly for the first time. Very frustrating so sympathy to anybody who suffers.

#gtncoachescorner is there a time limit on an olympic distance Tri. Have only completed sprint distances with best time of 1hour 28min. So aim is to complete an olympic in 3hours. My biggest worry is if there is a time limit / cut off in the swim.

Hi #gtnCoachesCorner, I understand the importance of recovery sessions on days between key cycling/ running workouts, but it's winter so I'm on the indoor trainer and I just find recovery rides so long and boring! Do easy runs and rides essentially serve the same purpose of recovery and aerobic base? Therefore meaning I could swap them into my week for those easy rides? Thanks so much, and keep up the great content!

Hi, I am mainly a cyclist, only started running last summer and like it. So I entered a 13k (March) and am considering a half marathon (May) also. The two events timing fit the GTN training plans for 10k and half marathon with an extra week in the half marathon training plan. My question is what to do with the extra week, should I rest a week after the 13k, or do one of the weeks twice (I was thinking week 7, 8 or 9)? Also how much will cycling interfere with the programs (I ride ~2 x 15km a day, plus a monthly long ride)? #gtncoachescorner

#gtncoachescorner - wondering if you can offer any advice on swim caps, mine constantly seem to slowly slip off. This happens in both pool and open water. I have tried experimenting with different caps (latex seems better vs silicone) and tried slightly different head positions, tried goggles under and on top, but caps just don't seem to stay put. Not such a problem when doing sets in the pool as can re-adjust during recovery, but very annoying in an open water race. I have short hair, so wondering if perhaps I need to try a small/kids hat as I imagine most swim caps are designed to accomodate ladies with long hair? Any other suggestions or proposals of different swim cap materials to try gratefully received.

#gtncoachescorner Hello! I am kicking off marathon training for a race in May. I'm keen to nail this as lockdown has given me the chance to get back in shape and fall in love with running again and I'd love a PB (2:40ish). However, I am lucky enough to be going skiing for 2 weeks in March - slap bang in the middle of my training schedule. What advice would you give to reduce the impact on my marathon-specific training? Thanks!

Hi GTN, I am doing the Ironman 70.3 Stafford this coming June. I have an injured ankle at moment so can only use my Turbo and swim. My question is does cycling improve and maintain running fitness or has it no affect on running at all ? I am currently 220lbs and intermittant fasting.

Hi Paul, Just getting back to running after ankle surgery, it's been around 6 months and I can say no not really in my case. It probably helps keep fitness levels up but in my case I can say my level of run fitness has suffered, don't think it will be long to build it back up but it's definitely suffered as you use different muscle groups for running. I incorporated a bit of rowing with my cycling to try to engage different muscle groups. Good luck with the recovery.

#gtncoachescorner hi gtn, I am fat, like 3 years of intensive drinking and takeaway. I used to love riding my bike and watching your vids, you have inspired me to do a triathlon, I have tried running but I have wayyyyy too much timber on me and it really hurts my knees, can you please let me know how best to start? Should I focus on a triathlon for now or should I just focus on becoming a healthy weight first?

#gtncoachescorner Hey there, working toward my first 70.3 in August and am focused on getting my run up. When I run my long runs my upper back starts to hurt around mile 3.5. It's happened twice in the last 3 weeks and the first time I was out for a week with a hurt back. It happened before last year, and I became more cognizant of my posture and stopped it, but it keeps happening now. How should I be carrying myself and what sorts of things can I do to make this stop? Foam rolling is helping, but I'm afraid of tearing myself up deep into training.

Poor spinal health is common in young cyclists and often due to bad posture (on and off the bike) and injury. If you favor one side of your body or the other due to injury or poor posture, your back eventually takes the strain. An imbalance in the spine will cause overuse of the lower back.🥰🥰🥰✌✌✌

For coaches corner; what is the ideal cadence to cycle at for an Ironman? I want to make sure my legs are fresh for the marathon so what cadence would you suggest, should I grind or spin?
@jamiefuhrman403
@jamiefuhrman403 2 жыл бұрын
A really helpful tip I've heard is to cycle at half your run cadence for the last mile or two of the bike leg. So for example, if you run at 180 spm, cycle at 90 rpm for the last bit to get your legs prepped. As far as the bulk of the race, bike cadence can vary by person and terrain so I'd play around with what's best for you.

#gtncoachescorner Is there a way I can see my intervals when I’m in the pool. My watch is always confusing to use when in the pool and I am trying to figure out how I can see what I am doing without having to memorise them.

Depends on your watch but most garmins have this functionality with customizing data screens and pressing the lap interval button.

@@jamiefuhrman403 I have a Garmin Fenix 5s plus but it actually broke yesterday after I went for a swim. I just find it annoying to always press the lap button after intervals.
