That's entirely true! To me it's just fun to get really close to the studio recording. I'm not judging anyone that plays it differently in one way or another. I really don't care :) About the title: yeah, it is the name of the series. I might change it to something more friendly. The word 'wrong' is a bit strong...

Frusciante is one of the most influential guitarist in the last 30 years. An indisputable genius and probably the greatest redemption story in all of music. The depths he pulled himself out of is beyond me. The ultimate inspiration for me.

He is left field from guitar hero, but as a functioning member of RHCP he is one of the most unique players and writers. He has incredible intuition and his sensibility may come off as loose and unfocused, but he sneaks in all sorts of things you have never seen. He is so good, he doesn't even care about being known or popular... He just is...

Frusciante is by far my favourite guitar player because -he is part of RHCP -created some of my favourite riffs -helped me in my guitar class to get a 99 (through his song) -helped cure my depression

He learned guitar in a different way than most the more you study him. His parents bought him a chord book and he literally memorized it....the man is truly a walking dictionary of chord knowledge with a heavy emphasis on triads. Watch his live jams once...he can transition so easily out of major based chord progressions to minor and back ....and it always sounds natural.

That's the beauty of music a lot of the time the melody and lyrics can be open to interpretation. You can relate to it however you see fit or feeling at the time of listening.

You’re onto something there.... a lot of people learn the notes, but they never learn to play them right. I thought no you run into that a lot when say classical players try to play John lee hooker blues... it’s just simple pentatonics right???

Yes , Frusciante is a REALLY Great Guitarist , but also some other Players are "Gods" But, it's true that he knows which notes are "magic" .. Especially the chords in the outro of "Under the Bridge" This is SOOO masterful and beyond compare!!

The guitar in this song is like a beautiful painting. Intricately woven embellishments and such an iconic intro. It reminds me so much about how Hendrix used to play like the guitar is an extention of his body and same with john fruscinate. Amazing how someone can channel so much emotions through only 6 strings

I was backpacking around Europe when I first heard 4 guys with acoustic guitars in Madrid playing Otherside for a crowd of 100 or so people. I fell in love. I've been teaching myself guitar for 9 years and even started playing gigs with people. John Frusciante changed my life for the better. I will never be completely content with my skills but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's amazing how something as simple as a melody can inspire you to pick up an instrument turn your boring life into one full of chasing riffs, calloused fingers, sweating all over your pedal board, and always pushing yourself to new limits. Thank you John.

I have to consider Frusciante's style very important. The style is totally different than what others play. He's like a melting pot of styles that he made into his own. As soon as I heard him play for the first time, I fell in love with the style.

It may seem silly, but I’ve been studying and learning this song for over 2 years since I first started playing guitar. I’ve found that it’s a great way for me to gauge my overall progress because while the basic structure and chords aren’t “hard”, getting all the nuances perfect is incredibly difficult. Obviously I play and learn plenty of other things too, but I continue to keep this at the top of my repertoire. Also, it’s one of my favorite songs and a main reason I picked up this instrument in the first place.

Frusciante went to GIT before joining the Chile Peppers. It shows in his playing. They teach you all about chords and voicings. Deliberate ways to play and not by chance. He knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote that.

The first really difficult thing I learnt to play was Little Wing. Then Under the Bridge came along and it was instantly clear how to play it. So much of John Fruciante, SRV and John Mayer originates from that. You will know it, when you hear it..

Dude, I have known how to play this song for years and this video was the last key to making it perfect. A little practice of adding a few “upstrokes” to my original way of playing it and now its perfect. It also makes sense because in the music video, I notice John picking upwards on the strings. Thanks a lot for showing the right way of playing the studio version of this song.

Interesting that you interpret the Emaj7 at the verse end as adding suspense. I've always thought it sounds like a relaxing break before the chorus. Great video as always.

I play very much like John. He and Hendrix are two of my biggest influences. You should break down the solo in the song could've lied. Very interesting solo in many ways and absolutely fun to play.

It's so good to see someone playing this song correctly for a change. I've seen so many people play this song wrong that I began to think I was doing it wrong. But it always sounded so right. (And I've watched John play it like this, although he does mix it up at times). I'm glad I stuck to this way of playing it. Great video dude, keep it up!

This laziness concept applies to so many things in life..! The best teachers I’ve had they used to put it in a different way, which helps cleaning the bad connotations that the word “Lazy” carries: “LAZINESS IS A SCIENCE”. I remind this to myself every once in a while, it has been nice to hear it again here!

I would add that the riff should flow from C#m to A, with no gaps in the sound. The way his hand seems to slide along the fretboard so easily while the guitar fills the song is magic. Great video.

Frusciante is the king of nuances that make a big difference. I am trying to get every little detail of a lot of songs from Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Stadium Arcadium and I think it's a good think to improve your playing. I think his funky rhythms are just brilliant like the bridge of Hump de Bump and the chorus of Charlie.

This song is so much fun to deconstruct and you did an amazing job on that verse. Have you thought about doing the same with the second verse? There are some great variations in that verse that bring in some additional techniques that are a blast to learn.

Froosh on this track reminds me alot of Mike McCready w/ Pearl Jam on Yellow Leadbetter. Very loose and Hendrix-y, and like this, mostly clean but still played pretty aggressively for a slower song.

So many play it wrong for two reasons: 1) Are too lazy to study it in detail 2) It's not an easy riff, if you want to include the embelishments...

Yes there are definitely parts in this song that people struggle with for it was the intro and I needed to do it with a capo. It still sounds absolutely fine like that but it's not correct. If I'm playing this song on an acoustic guitar I still need to do it that way. The messed up part is I'm quite good with chords and have always been fast at changing between them. But that part sometimes gives me trouble

This is a hard song . . I can play songs that sound harder . But in true John form he has a way of making his hardest riffs sound learnable . I struggled with intro but the chords and then hammers in Between . Grrr

Under the bridge is one of those songs that can truly speak to your heart even without the lyrics. I think we all have a song that we always play when we embrace our guitars, for me that song is under the bridge.

I've tried to learn the guitar twice...the first time, every time I picked up my guitar I expected absolute perfection, I expected every note to sound clean and perfect and I struggled because that's ultimately an over the top expectation. So I gave up, I put the guitar away and never played again. I tried to sell the guitar and no one bought it so it sat in my attic... I picked up my guitar about a year and a half ago and I've been learning ever since, there's highs and lows but this time I stick with it, I'm much better and the only thing I changed this time was just to remind myself to have fun. Guitar isn't about perfection and I have learnt that now...now everytime I pick up the guitar I'm no longer frustrated...I'm excited, happy and grateful :) Rock on my dudes and keep pushing guitar as a journey not just a destination 👍

I wouldn't be so sure. John was an extremely hard worker. And in the documentary _Funky Monks_ he talks about creating the BSSM album and how he's never worked so hard on anything in his life. I personally think he practiced his ass off to get this style right.

This song is literally why I picked up the guitar. I am surprised you skipped the intro, which is the best part. Regarding the intro: In the recording, the high notes on the B string are overdubbed. That is not to say that it's impossible to play it live with the simultaneous notes, but the way the notes ring out until the next chord change is impossible without overdubbing.

Yes! Bedankt! I've been stuck playing the bar chords to this tune forever, and was actually diving into inversions this week to try an learn the hendrix'y licks he inserts to add that missing color. And boom here's a video on the exact subject.

I‘d kill to have your right arm. The way you kinda not move your wrist but still have incredible fine control of what the pick does to the strings. So much control and steeze. Hard to put into words. I come back to this video every once in a while just to see that technique in action on the up beats =D
