I have to admit that both Dumbledore and Snape are two of the most fascinating characters. The fact that they have so many secrets and are always scheming in the background and seem to now more than everyone else, makes them such.

When I read the scene in the book where Dumbledore died, I legit put the book down and started crying. I didn't see it coming and losing Dumbledore was such an emotional hit after so many books that I couldn't help crying. I knew what was coming when the movie came out, but they did the scene very well that it still pulls tears.

the one thing that made it hit so hard in the book, that they didn't use it in the movie, was the part that Dumbledore immobilized Harry when Malfoy was comming and Harry couldn't move, as much as he wanted to get involved and help, but the moment Dumbledore died he could move again. Damn that was a strong scene, it's been so many years since I read the books and it's one of the parts I will never forget

It wasnt that surprising for me. The old mentor dying is a trop that has been used regularly. What was impactful for me was the way he died. You kinda expect that character to die in an heroic sacrifice or battle

25:38 I think because Lucius failed to recover the prophecy last movie Voldemort wanted to punish him for that so he tasked Draco to kill Dumbledore and expected Draco to fail too, so that Voldemort could kill Draco and punish Lucius in doing so at the same time.

Very interesting theory. I always saw it more of Voldemort was always looking for new followers and when Lucius was imprisoned it was also a good time because of Draco's age to recruit him. Sort of a "follow in your fathers footsteps and succeed where he failed" kind of thing. I know Voldemort doesn't really care for anybody but himself, but I never thought he was outright trying to kill Draco. I could explain more but it would contain stuff from the final two movies and I do not want to even remotely spoil anything.

Remember Ron saying in the first movie in front of the Mirror of Erised he wanted to be a famous school team Quidditch player? Also, gaining some free experience with a girl who freely throws herself into his arms without him making any effort can only give him some confidence boost before stepping into more serious business. Hermione can be a little bit intimidating (especially in the movies where she's nearly depicted as abusive and bossy with him, more than in the book). The movie Ginny is... awkward. The book Ginny is more direct and alive. Movie Ginny acts like a ghost, most of the time, it's annoying. A memory can be faked just the same way one can lie, though to avoid being spotted right away by Dumbledore who is a good Legilimens, Slughorn must be good at living in his own lies to believe them. Always a little ashamed of what he did. The worst of it is that at that point Tom already knew everything he needed about Horcruxes (might even had made one already at that point... the Diary at least), asking Slughorn was just a way to guilt trap him into not revealing what he suspected. Slughorn did nothing wrong in fact but he only assumed he did ! You can spot details in other memories that the book shows, the Ring, the other objects Tom has been seeking from the Hogwarts founders to make his Horcruxes with... Corpses in tha water are Inferi (zombies animated to do the wizard's bidding). The Ring was destroyed by Dumbldore but traces of the protective enchantment remain. In the book, Harry is under the cloak and Dumbledore silently petrifies him to prevent him to invervine, the spell lifts as soon as Dumbledore dies but Harry saw everything and couldn't do anything to prevent it. Voldemort, like Harry thinks the school is home. Founders of the school are like reveered heroes so their artifacts (especially the Slytherin ones) are indeed a great choice for Voldemort to put his Horcruxes into. (the Ring was Slytherin's) You need 6 of them, the seventh part of the soul being in your body. Each time you make one, the remaining part is split in two, so they are not equal parts, by doing that you weaken your soul evenmore and each Horcrux becomes not that worthy in the end. The "antidote" to Horcruxes is remorse but while it is possible with great pain with two halves of a soul, splitting it into so many and weakend parts means trying to reintegrate it at that point with remorse would simply be a death sentance. Of course the person must be willing to do it. The other way is to destroy them and they are usually protected by magic far beyond the average countercurse.

Isn't it cool that we *thought* we understood Tom Riddle's diary in book/movie 2, but only now in book/movie 6, we understand the full meaning of the diary? And JKR wrote book 6 a whopping 7 years after book 2. She must have had the whole story in her head from start to finish. There are not many book series which are *that* well thought out from start to finish.

I've noticed that people often miscount. The way it is described, it would be SIX horcruxes plus Voldemort himself. That would be the soul split in SEVEN. The book from Chamber of Secrets is one of the six.

In the book Harry does suggest using Legilimency or Veritaserum to get the real memory from Slughorn, but Dumbledore argues against it saying that Slughorn is an extremely able wizard who will expect both, who is very good at Occlumency and that he(Dumbledore) would be astonished if Slughorn didn't keep with himself an antidote to Veritaserum ever since he coerced him into surrendering the fake memory. Moreover, Dumbledore said that it would be a mistake to try and force the truth out of him, because that could make him leave Hogwarts.

Well, You find the game Ginny is playing weird because in the real story, she is not playing any game at all. They just changed their story completely. In the movie, once Ginny starts to feel Harry is looking at her in a different way, she tries to create scenarios where she can get close to him, because Harry doesn´t make any move because of Ron (supposedly). So it just looks like Ginny is always the one going after a very passive Harry. In the books is the complete opposite, even if Ginny had a crush for Harry for years, she tries to forget him and follows her own path. she doesn´t show any romantic interest in Harry as long as she is dating Dean (a storyline the movie drops without giving any ending so the situation is weird and confused). In the books, Harry is the one thinking all the time about her and he is the one making the first step in the relationship, he has a very more active role in the relationship. I undertand the movies can´t adapt everything in the books and that sometimes they have to make changes. But regarding Ginny-Harry relationship, they changed all the characters´s intentions and dynamics. And that without saying they cut storylines where Ginny was involved, didn´t include some relevant scenes and gave some Ginny moments to other characters. I still find people watching the movies and they don´t understand why Ginny is in the scene with the team, when in fact, she was one of the best players.

Why Harry stood up: English etiquette dictates a Gentlemen stand when a Lady sits or gets up from the table. It's somewhat now dependent on the formality of the event or upbringing of the gentleman. But without other males at the gathering standing for ladies, it seemed an involuntary reflex, like if one were on a date, it may expose Harry's feelings.

Actually, the ring horcrux WAS destroyed. Before the school year, Dumbledore retrieved it and destroyed it, but the horcrux had a defensive spell -- a kind of booby trap -- that caused a counter-curse. That is what blackened and withered Dumbledore's hand and arm, as we saw in this episode. So, two horcruxes down at this point. Harry, Ron and Hermione will have to find the others.

Im sure its been said. But book Ginny was exactly who Harry needed. Someone independent and emotionally strong (probably from all those older brothers)... basically he needed someone who didnt need him, just wanted/loved him. I hope that makes sense. They dont spend enough time (Basically none) building Ginnys character or the chemistry between them. Just out of nowhere shes suddenly always around and Harry has a crush.. yes in the book there was something that made Harry realize he found her attractive.. but i think part of him liked her before. He just nvr let himself think abt those kind of feelings until Cho- A classic first crush without really knowing anything abt her. The second Harry realizes he finds Ginny attractive in the book, it feels instantly like more than a crush. Because he truely does know her, almost like family..🤢... urm, u know what i mean.. but of course thinks shes still out of bounds.

I actually don't mind them doing a television remake already. There's so much from the books missing and other things they can flesh out more. Like you said there's so much more going on at the end of this one, as well as all the Riddle flashbacks. A lot more can also be done adapting Goblet of Fire. It will be interesting to see what they re-use from the movies. Personally I wouldn't mind them keeping a lot of the music if possible. And regardless if it's good or bad, it won't take away from the books or movies.

24:01 I think these creatures are people killed and revived by Voldemort, I'm not quite sure though.

Yes, they are terrifying things called Inferi. Reanimated dead bodies. The description in the books was so creepy.

I always hoped harry would date luna instead of ginny, even back before the movies, when reading the books.

I absolutely love Stef, but I also absolutely hate this movie ;D As well-done as this movie was, it runs into exactly the same problem as Movie 4 did, in that it screwed the book/passed up on something truly magnificent by being a terrible adaptation. Unlike Movie 4, this movie did a good job for the most part... but man, can any of you remember what it was like when the movies started coming out and wondering how they would do, or do justice to, your favorite parts of the series OR the best parts of particular books? Book 6 was incredible for it's end-of-the-book action and scariness - it dipped into both rather well. Harry is away and finding a Horcrus with Dumbledore while finding out more about his nemesis and his best friends and schoolmates, meanwhile, are fighting for their LIVES and most of them only live because Harry, thankfully, had the presence of mind to NOT drink all of the luck potion (Felix Fleicitious or whatever) and then force his friends to take it and divvy it up amongst the DA. Pretty amazing stuff happens well before the horror at the top of the tower and then the confrontation on the grounds leading to the exit. I remember being so incredibly disappointed by this movie, as well-done as most of the rest of it was : ( Thank goodness, I've got Stef here to completely distract me this time. What a magnificent woman.

Voldemort intentally created 6 horcruxes as the 7th part of his soul lies within himself otherwise he would be like someone who had suffered the dementors kiss.

The greatest travesty of translating the books to film is what they did to Ginny Weasley. Shes easily one of my top 3 favorite characters in the book. She was raised closest to the twins, so she has that rebellious streak in her. Shes openly flirty with anyone she wants to be, shameless in her decisions. Shes skilled in combat and sports. Shes so funny too. On screen shes cardboard. And i dont think it had anything to do with the actress. I just dont think they did anything with her in the movies.

Once you've completed the movies, please do yourself a favor and read the books, or even better, check out the audio-books as read by Jim Dale. I realize at this time that you've finished the series, but the books or audio-books will really help you understand things even better that the movies explained them.

One of my favorite scenes, is Hermione and Harry alone on the steps and her casting "Repugno"" on Ron. Brilliant. Also, Snape's "murder" of Dumbeldore, if only because of the opening scene in the final movie, which is my absolute fave.

Hermione using "Repugno" on Ron is even more immature and toxic than he was to her in Goblet of fire.

I wasn't a big fan of how this movie handled Harry and Ginny's love story. The book does a better job of conveying the slow burn that he feels at the beginning of the school year that makes way more sense than out of no where "he just like her" plot here. I think the director took for granted how many people read the books.
