That was a very informative and great video Chuck, and i like your company's dedication to give long/reverse warranty's. Too few companies do that nowadays.

The problem lies is where you have glass and metal together. Metal expands and contracts more than glass at given temperatures. Because of that is why most insulated window seals fail. If you use fiberglass frames, the frame and window panes will expand and contract at the same rate therefore no stress on the sealing material.
@sputnik4216
@sputnik4216 5 жыл бұрын
Yep. Glass thermal coefficients are crazy, different types of glass have different rates so you can't even fuse different types together because they''ll crack. Pyrex vs. soda glass for example..

While there are some fiberglass frames that have great success with insulated glass not fogging, they sure do not back it with a great warranty. Vinyl frames are notoriously offering LIFETIME warranties on the failed seals. It is difficult to find a upgraded vinyl manufacturer not offering a LIFETIME warranty.

The ones I made with acrylic tape lasted ten years. And the original Anderson sashes from 1972 are still good. Those ones are welded.

pumice cleaned glass means better sealing surface,wear surgical gloves to stop b oil from smudging the glass,when glass is cut,use fine grit sandpaper to take off sharp edges,contact with metal much less frequently causes the glass to crack.glass is best cut on a flat flat heavy table with a soft nappy piece of carpet glued onto it,usually mfrs have a guy at a stand up trough & moveable T ruler, , which metal often results in glass chips left in the track,causing more ships to the next glass sheet to be cut.he has to bend to see the 1 '16 down low,and at times misses the 1 /16 mark

Why dont they just make the whole thing out of glass. It must be possible to create a hollow glass panel. Glass on top, glass on bottom and glass on sides. Not bonded together but actually made that way in one piece!?

@@wilco1288 They do have bulb-edge glass units like that but they've been phased out for the most part, they would last a while but they didn't have as much insulation value.

window failure fogging moisture pooling on the sash bottom happens in pprox 3 to 5 window lites of a typical 15 to 25 windows for home upgrade or new const installation why? glass is shipped with a coating of powdered soft grit which protects glass from breakage during the jostling ride on the 18 wheel hauler,most factories have fellas who use the house mix of blue glass cleaner in a windex type spray bottle,which does not get all the grit off,when the evil smelling butyl caulking is applied with the gun,,,this results in failure of the window in a few months after installation,proper glass cleaning means using an old glazers product pumice,,use warm water clean lint free cotton rags,,( autoclaved in 400 degree steam) coat the glass surface wipe till it squeaks,one more light dusting with the stuff wipe and blow off any particles that window will remain tight and functional if the other components and work were properly done

Can I replace my thermo's with non thermo's? They fail way to soon.
@chucklanham5410

You can, but they will not meet code AND they will not be as energy efficient. You can avoid future problems if you would replace the units with an upgraded series and NOT the builder grade type windows.

Why don't they just use silicone for the whole seal, instead of using polybutylene?
@chucklanham5410

Without getting into a very long dissertation, our experience has shown us that ALL insulated glass units will fail within a metal frame window. This is regardless of the quality of spacer systems used. Of course, this answer is coming from someone who works in a hot and humid climate. Also, even silicone does not stick to glass on a long term basis. I know there are many fantastic claims of 'GREATNESS' in the insulated glass market, and we have fallen for some of them through the years. Thank goodness this is NOT a problem in our vinyl frame windows.It could also be a cost issue. This is a more common event in a 'builder grade' type window. There will always be a market for the less expensive products. We like to call that JOB SECURITY.I hope that helps you.

You need to use the correct type of silicone base caulking which is the neutral cure silicone and that can outlast the life of your substrate.
@chucklanham5410
@chucklanham5410 4 жыл бұрын
@@mleibel4 you should share that correct silicone type with the many manufacturers within the window community. They are obviously NOT using it at this time and you could make so much money with this revolutionary idea. Thanks for your input.

Did you say you put Helium in your windows? That's nonsense surely - that would provide little thermal insulation - did you mean to say Argon? Also, please edit your video so that we can actually see some close-ups when needed.

No sir. I did not say we place helium in our windows. That would be nonsense. I used an analogy to describe how the mylar works in a 'helium filled' balloon vs a sealed insulated glass unit.
