Thank you for this great video! I had to buy a new seal at Lowe's - only cost $6 to fix my toilet!
@joanm728710 ай бұрын
Just fixed my toilet seal. Instructions were clear - it was a little hard turning the cylinder. I heard the pop but I needed to turn further for an even louder pop before it came loose. I could have used a little explanation as to how to align the cylinder back in. Took two heads on my end to get it done but it now works great. Thank you for your help.

Not absolutely necessary to replace seal. I just cleaned mine and used toothbrush at bottom of black cylinder after removing the ring, to ensure no crud was in there. Now works, without replacement (Up to $18 to replace yellow seal ring)

Hi, thanks for the video. Is there a way to figure out what kind of flush valve seal you need?
@Housebarons3 жыл бұрын
Hey Farhan, You would need to know the manufacturer of the toilet. Then you could go to their website / or call . You might be able to go on Amazon and narrow it down based on description and pictures, but that’s a little less certain. Thx for watching.

There is a printed sticker inside the tank of my Kohler. It's hard to see behind the parts, but I took a picture and enlarged it to read the model number of the seal. Most recent Kohler toilets use the same size seal.

Can you use CLR (Calcium Lime Rust remover) instead of vinegar, or is that too strong? That's the spray stuff you get at stores like Home Depot/Lowes, I have some for removing the ring of mineral in the bowl
@Housebarons4 ай бұрын
I’m not sure. I’d check the label on the container and see if it is made to be in contact with plastic. Thx for watching!

How long do the gaskets last? I've gone through 2 in a year on a brand new home.
@Housebarons2 ай бұрын
On the same toilet? Nonetheless, they should last years not months. They aren’t that expensive, just a hassle to replace. But if it’s the same toilet I might be tempted to replace the guts - maybe call kohler and see if they will send you a new valve ( especially with such new equipment ) . Hope that helps, Thx for watching.

@@Housebarons Yes, 2 on 1 toilet in a year and 1 on the other toilet in a year.

Needs fill level adjustment, I think, but I don't know how to do it. Maybe the instructions are online somewhere. The plumber didn't leave them for us when he installed the toilet.
@gregorywerner2892 жыл бұрын
How do you do this without ripping up your hands? Neither the quarter turn nor unhooking the handle is quite as easy as it appears in the video.
@Housebarons2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gregory, I hope it’s the same toilet. If so, you’ve experienced one of the main rules of DYI: the odds of finding a complication increase with a simple looking fix. Our toilet wasn’t very old. Maybe that’s why. Thx for watching!
@calvarybuilders56892 жыл бұрын
I dont think the problem is hard water, i think kholer has a poor design, the rubber hangs over and the water rushing by flips the gasket over! Trim gasket to a smaller size
@Housebarons2 жыл бұрын
Hey Calvary, Sometimes those gaskets move. Thx for the comment and for watching!

If it stops running when I left the float device, it's not that seal, is it? Where is the water line in a Kohler toilet? Instead of a line, mine has a circle. Is that it? Which way do I turn the adjustment device to make the float stop sooner?
@Housebarons Жыл бұрын
Hey moos, Try turning it clockwise to push the float down so it meets the rising water sooner to turn off. See if that helps. Or - sometimes you can adjust the arm of the float if it has an adjustment on the arm itself. There are a few different designs. Thx for watching.

My issue is different, the yellow cap seems to have broken off and with every flush it pops off along with the hose. Do I have to replace the entire thing?
@Housebarons Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, Probably - that would be easiest. I’ve not taken it apart, so I’m not sure. Does the piece look broken or has it become loose? Either way, you’d probably have best results contacting kohler and see if they have the small part or a solution. Otherwise , replace it all. Thx for watching!
@Grande79 Жыл бұрын
@@Housebarons the yellow cap (yours is red) looks like it cracked and no longer will stay on the piston. It’s a $20 part so I will just order it, but I don’t know if I have the proper tools to do it myself. Thank you for responding

I just replace my cap today. The little nubs broke/wore off. Picked up a kit at Home Depot for $12. Easy job once I figured out what had happened .

What if the cylinder won’t turn?
@Housebarons10 ай бұрын
Hey Jessica.., If you think it is stuck, you can drain the tank and add about 1 inch of vinegar and see if that dissolves some of the hard water scale. Sometimes that can make things difficult. Just an idea…. Thx for watching!
