Flynn actually paid for his plane ticket to Italy for William Tell , that's how broke Cabot was ! Begging Flynn for a job and then pounding him right between the shoulder blade !

Cabot starred in one really good movie in 1941 titled SUNDOWN. It's worth watching. As for his personal life, I know little. I do remember in one of David Niven's autobiographies he singled out Bruce Cabot for savaging. He recounts a particularly embarrassing incident during a party where a drunk Cabot and his equally inebriated date fornicate in a bedroom while other partygoers secretly watch and snicker at them from an adjoining room. Perhaps this was Niven's way of exacting a bit of revenge for his old friend Errol Flynn.

Cabot was given the occasional opportunity to play good guys , but , more often than not , he was cast as a heel or rat . He lacked charisma , in my opinion , and he often appeared thuggish , even when he was trying to represent the right side of the law . His villains were truly characters you loved to hate , but when he was cast as someone you should root for , he came across as bland and uninteresting .

I've always wondered why Bruce Cabot didn't become a bigger star than he did & this video has finally explained why! After co-starring in one of the biggest films of all time, i.e. "King Kong", he seemed destined for greatness, but his 'tanned' & muscular physique seemed to disappear after his WWII service! For the next 26 years, until his final performance in 1971's "Diamonds are Forever", he was relegated to playing secondary roles, until succumbing to lung cancer at age 68!

Plus, Lex Barker died very young, about 43, of a sudden heart attack, so his not getting good roles, didn't really matter!

@@rongendron8705 I seem to recall reading that he was trying to get back in shape for a new role and was on some sort of crash diet/exercise program when he had his heart attack.

The “William Tell” debacle is painful to read about. Flynn related the story in his memoir; and it was covered in detail in “Filmfax” magazine. (What a great film it could have been!) Personal possessions of Flynn and his family were seized, because of Cabot’s lawsuit and the IRS. Cabot will be remembered for this, and maybe for “King Kong.” What a low-life! Cabot’s last role was a small one, in a mediocre Bond film, “Diamonds Are Forever.” He betrays his boss, a Las Vegas billionaire. When he tries to assassinate his boss, he is killed by Federal agents. Cabot rolls down the hill, dead, and the billionaire says, “Tell him he’s fired!” Bye-bye, Bruce!

Spoiler alert: when Bruce Cabot needed an opportunity, Errol Flynn hired him for his movie WILLIAM TELL. Flynn hit great financial difficulties, and Cabot sued him to get paid, which led to Flynn‘s financial collapse. No surprise, Flynn resented it. That answer comes 14 minutes into this video. If you want a meandering journey, watch the whole thing. If you expect an answer to the question posed by the title, this is it. I don’t mind the largely accurate information contained herein, I just really DON’T LIKE it when a few seconds in, a video insists that I’m gonna need to stay to the end. I find that mendacious. Skip to the 14 minute mark.

Actually, this was when he was young, healthy very fit and alcohol and drug free. A few years later was when he quickly and very rapidly began packing on pounds, smoking, drinking and drugs. Too bad he had absolutely no self-discipline. He could have, would have become a major star as a leading man. Instead, he was a fat and bloated joke who was discarded and unemployable except for John Wayne. I have always wondered why he helped this peace of s---t?😱🥺 When I learned what he cruely, ruthlessly and selfishly did to Errol Flynn I was (and still am) shocked beyond belief. This wicked deed broke Flynn's heart mentally and emotionally destroying him. He had nothing left to live for. He died soon after - depressed -completely destroying himself with drugs and alcohol. This was how Bruce Cabot treated his greatest and best-loved friend. 😱😥

Oh, by the way when Bruce Cabot sued Errol Flynn, Flynn had just sold his house to get the money to pay his wifes and to desperately get more money to finish his movie after backers withdrew their financial suport. Flynn was now living on his yacht(his greatest love, pride and joy) which he had owned for over 20 years. Sadly, Bruce demanded and forced him to sell it after Bruce Cabot suing and winning his lawsuit. Errol Flynn was now and homeless.

I always liked Bruce Cabot & Errol Flynn, despite negative publicity like Errol allegedly doing voyeur stuff. I guess it's like enjoying X-rated movies. Personally, I Do Not. Having my "Real Woman" next to me is "TRILLIONS" of times "Way Better" than a pic on wet paper or a tv screen!! But if they do, "who cares"! Usually the person screaming is the biggest hypocrite like M.A.D.D. 2011 president, Debra Oberlin who was arrested for drunk driving! Ugh!!! At least Cabot wasn't a L-Communist=worst thing to be back then in tinsle town in those days!(still is) but suing Errol Flynn after Flynn helped him. "Dirty Pool"! But that's not going to stop us from watching Big Jake or any of the other nine John Wayne movies Cabot was in!

A fine actor liked his work - he was put forward for the role of Ringo Kid - in Stagecoach - but, Mr. Ford wanted John Wayne - I believe Mr. Ford was right - but, for all that Bruce is always a welcome face in old movies - al least for this old movie fan

Ŵhat does the host have against John Wayne ? John Wayne is not the only person to not go to war because of having family. He did a lot for the war effort!‽
@Paladin1873
@Paladin1873 10 ай бұрын
Both Wayne and Flynn tried to serve but were rejected. Flynn, despite his physique, was a mess internally. Wayne was 34 when the war began and had a large family to support, so he was initially classified 3-A. In truth, he tried repeatedly to volunteer for service with John Ford and the OSS, but Republic Studios threatened him with a lawsuit if he voluntarily left. The studio even made certain his 3-A classification was not upgraded to 1-A, which could have led to him being drafted. Wayne was Republic's bread and butter, so if he departed, the studio might suffer financially or even fold. Ford either didn't know about this or didn't care. In 1945, during the filming of "They Were Expendable", he constantly berated Duke and harassed him to the point of tears until star Robert Montgomery, a decorated PT boat commander in real life, stepped in and put a stop to it. Personally, I never held their lack of war service against either actor. Frankly, Wayne accomplished more with his war movies and defense of American values on film and in real life than he ever could have accomplished in active service. They also serve who only stand and wait.

At first, I thought of Wayne being a "draft dodger", but when you realize how old he was,i.e. 35 at the War's start & being married with 4 kids, he had an excuse for not serving! It's just that he greatly capitalized on WWII roles!

Never mind Wayne as a non combatant, both he and Cabot were a pair of shits. I wouldn't have been surprised if Wayne's sympathies lay with Nazi Germany, as he and his mates Ward Bond and Victor McLaglen were crypto fascists, members of the Czars of Hollywood.
