I’m reading Errol Flynn’s book “My Wicked, Wicked Ways.” He had quite the adventurous life, to say the least.

I agree, although in my opinion, and I admit it is a minority one across the board, to be a great hero you have to have a great opponent/adversary/enemy-- when you "overamp" the hero you get a comic book-a bad comic book like DC and Marvel have been for about 15 years. I am not suggesting Flynn's movies were this extreme but sometimes they came to the edge. I always wondered what the screen chemistry would have been if instead of Ronald Reagan, the actor who was supposed to play the role of George Custer in "Santa Fe Trail" namely JOHN WAYNE, got the role. They never played in any film together.

@@TheVatonaught Flynn, who was an accomplished writer, needed help with it, but I suspect that it's a mostly accurate relating of his exploits. Flynn's life was relatively short (50 years), but he sure packed a lot of high living into it. Hopefully, he wasn't disappointed when he moved on to his next life, if there is one.

Bev Aadland, Errol's 'girlfriend' is my hanai mother. The fact is my grandmother, Flo Aadland, author of Big Love and basis for the movie about Errol's and my mother's last days with him, The Last of Robin Hood, pushed hard for Bev to be in show business. My mom lied about her age to get into the studios as a dancer. She acted far more mature than her age and was successful getting a job. Errol happened to walk through the dance studio one day and saw my mom and because to be hired you had to be 18, assumed she was 18. So, it's not as if he was searching out underage girls at the time, at least, not with my mom. And when he did meet her, he wasn't 50, he was 47, I believe. And, yes, after awhile he did find out about her true age, but by that time they were very intimately involved and were actually in love with each other. My grandmother was well aware of the situation and later served time for 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor', I think it was 60 days. So, all judgments aside, my mom was treated very well and very respectfully by Errol and she told me so on many occasions. In the movie, The Last of Robin Hood, Dakota Fanning played my mom (UNCANNY resemblance, I might add), Kevin Kline played Errol Flynn, and Susan Sarandon played my grandmother, Florence Aadland.
