These guys have two or even three world-class players in each of the 11 positions on the pitch. They have leaders, fighters, experience, youth, flair, speedsters, mentality monsters, literally everything. And they have already shown that they know how to win, they are the current defending champions of both the World Cup and the UEFA Nations League. So, who says they can’t have back-to-back FIFA World Cup success?

The curse started in 1998 my friend. Germany also won in 1990 and played in Quarter final in 1994. Argentina won in 1986 and played in the final in 1990. The curse started in 1998 and has only affected the European teams who Have won it so far.

I’m Argentinian. Our team has lost 3 out of 5 World Cup finals and we got eliminated by none other than France in WC 2018. But I can confidently say our team has never faced the Champion’s Curse, not even once.

Brazil made an exception by winning 2002 and still managed to get to quarter finals in 2006. It is tougher to do that compared to the 20th century era because the competition has become tougher, these days you have to be careful to not get hit by surprises in any match. Given the next two world cups, there is a good chance that we may see first time champions. Doing what Brazil did was in the early phase of global expansion of football and even then it takes top world class caliber to have pulled it off. Now these days you can expect top tier teams to get clapped sooner. Altought I must say, french team do have the caliber to go past group stage but we won't know for sure but what is for sure that even that is not going to be easy.

France are pretty much in the same position we where in, in 2018. Germany was defending world champions and won the Confed cup a year before the world cup. Eventhough we had a few dissapointed friendlies before the world cup, everyone was still betting on us, because of our deep squad and especially our midfield. And then we where beaten by Mexico and South Korea. The last few games by also weren't anything to write home about, but people still see them as favorites and i can't blame them. But i wouldn't be surprised if the curse really hits France.

I think it is because once you win the World Cup there isn't any motivation to win the next one because you have done it and the same players that won the World Cup get older. And the ones thay get promoted might find it tough to get into the team

Not just motivation. The thing is teams have patterns of playing. When teams don't renew their patterns of playing, opponents know exactly what to expect and how to counter them. The problem with most World cup winners is that they can't find competitive B plans, so they stick with their A plans which everybody already know. One can also talk about mental freshness vs staying in a comfort zone

Any team that comes to World Cup believing that France is cursed or Jinxed because they are defending champions should be ready to lose. Reason is they have the best squad on paper. Defending champions have crashed in the past due to valid reasons, retaining aging players and tactics, lack of motivation, personality clashes, etc. France has every reason to break the jinx this time. They have squad depth and balance. They need to go back and debrief themselves on their performances in the recent European Nations League. Most importantly, current form and ambition should be major factors in the selections. The World Cup is at Deschamps mercy!

france wont win because the team spine is in decline : Loris, varane, griezman, kante...it seems that it's impossible for a coach to get rid of its old soldiers because even if they dont perform as before on the pitch they are ultimate importance on the daily life of the squad and its unity.. France will be perofrming again in the future but not at this WC..

Also the most important reason France won in 2018 was Varane, Pogba, Griezmann, Kante and in later stages kylian mbappe. First 4 guys are basically finished, they can't contribute anymore. Although , their attack this year in the form of Benzema and Mbappe is very lethal. Their defence is in shambles , full backs are also not that good , and no creativity in midfield. I don't think they are going anywhere beyond the quarter finals.

@The Wolverine Argentina don’t have a good defense; they make the defense look good by parking the bus after scoring 1 goal. We saw that in the copa America, and luckily for them, Brazil were utterly dreadful in the final. Mbappe and Benzema will run circles around Argentina’s defense. And the last few matches of both teams don’t say much about what will happen in Qatar. It’s still a while before the World Cup.

The funnier thing is that denmark ended up winning euro 1992, meaning apart from 2002, one of them always wins when they meet in the groups. And currently, France has the world cup curse on their hands, so either denmark is somehow winning this world cup, or we're experiencing 2002 again

I hope our Socceroos will be the first to cause this champions curse in our first match against the French. I'll be happy with a draw. The Danes may have a chance to win against the French. It has faxed it brazil won in 1962 and got out in 1966. However this curse started in 1998. In this period 1998-2018 all European teams who won the World Cup were out in the group stages the next one. So there’s a curse here to European teams. I think France is also going out. @@adamelsabeh1031 Kante plays a lot. Didier Deschamps just used the last few games to switch players and try new things. Kante is a key player of France and the manager and him get along very well. He's on the bench from time to time so younger players (who will most likely be subs during the WC) can get a bit of experience and the coach can see if they suit the team. That's all!! You don't have to hate anybody because someone tells you something wrong on the internet!?

@@adamelsabeh1031 Many french stars were is average shape. But still France was not playing great. Motivation was low like England compared to the other teams. I think they played too many important matches this season, while teams like Austria or Denmark didnt play much champions league, it was their time to shine. It was the right time for Deschamps to try new players and acustom them to play together. It makes sense imo even if it did not pay off.

It;s not fair to say that Brazil is the best because the have qualified for every world cup. the qualification stage for brazil is much more easierr for them then for European countries. Countries like Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay always don't get the chance to qualifiy, While only 4 or maybe 5 can qualify via play off, usually the first four are always Brazil and Argentina, with Uruguay and Colombia, or Ecuador, Chili

No, Argentina won in '86 and reached the final in '90 and failed to win it. Dodgy call by the ref, but the curse stood.
