Well said! I feel the exact same way. My wife and I have been together for 15 years and married for 8. She is a hairdresser, and has a lot of male clients. A lot of people I know wouldn't be able to handle that. I've seen it with other people. Once that jealousy comes out, that's when it all starts to fall apart. Young men, listen to Cody.

I cant say i agree with this. In been with my woman from high school, 28 years now. The only one for me, never doubt and 99% happy with her. The key? Be youself and let her be herself. Your both not perfect by a long shot, but lurne life tougether. Dont hide feelings becouse you ‘should’ be a man... be you. Say al you feel, hate and love, and let her do the same. If she’s the one... that is what she will love about you the most.

Ok, I have a confession to make and this is coming from a guy that did fall in love with a woman. The one thing that every man should never do....Never smother your feelings unto her. I had learned that the hard way, and I am very fortunate that she did forgive me.

Hi Cody, When I was growing up my dad made sure that I had manners I.E. open a door for a lady, walk on the outside etc, when I started going out with my girlfriend (we have been together 20 years now) I was totally floored by her as she objected to me opening doors for her and told me that I was taking her individuality away. I no longer try to open doors for her but it has taken a concerted effort to stop myself even now. It is unnerving to find that something you did as a nice gesture being thrown back at you as something totally different.

Good advice...hard to do in practice when you are in love with someone or especially when you feel them pulling away. It is like a self-fulfilling thing...you feel someone pulling away...you try even harder or give even more attention...they pull away harder. It is so hard to pull away yourself. Unfortunately been there and you are 100% right.

Cody has got it dialed in. A surefire way of setting yourself up for a personal hell is to be at the pleasure of the lady and not to breath. Keep a relationship on a balance, it's tough at times but when it's right you'll be walking a mile with a smile. The adage of a happy wife is a happy life also plays into it as well. Just know when the scale is tipping sometime space in needed sometimes it's togetherness.

While we all look for our other halves, we are still individuals and therefore slightly different. we all need Me time. some more than others. Mrs. W going away is Me time. A a long term relationship can be compared to a wood fire. At first it burns hot and fast than the flames go down and the embers glow. That's the fire which produces sustainable heat for a long time. After forty years of marriage the advice I would give is as follows. Have patience, be willing to compromise and/or give him/her the point. Don't fret over the small stuff. In the long run you'll find most things are small stuff.

In a society where most families are fragmented and morally mixed it is a good thing to bring up relationship issues. I have met so many men in my lifetime that did not have a role model to show them the proper way to relate to women. And even when they did it was difficult to navigate the field with so many different sets of values out there. Take your time.

Cody. That's a lot of words just to describe some self control. :) My advice for potential young couples is time apart and time together, most importantly working together on projects. You help her on some of her projects and she help you. If neither of you can handle taking direction on the others project than maybe perhaps should re think things. Nothing worse than a relationship not based on solid ground, aka reality.

Good talk, I need to think about what you said, but I like your candor. I've been married for more than twenty years and I understand the need for personal space for both people. What concerns me is the idea of trying to make another person want you. Unless of course you're talking about testing intentions, then I get it. Are you saying, don't fully invest in a relationship that is only one sided? I agree with that concept 100%.

We have a friend who worked a lot of years in Saudi Arabia. Those "hiding" things, etc. absolutely still happen there. I'm not sure "aloof" would be a good idea... Maybe we should describe it as "not desperately needy to the point that she wonders either what's wrong with you or what you want from her." My husband was a friend. He wasn't nuts, he wasn't needy, he also wasn't aloof. I got to go with him and his friends, which meant I got to see that he was an open book (not just saying he was an open book like some do).

As Khalil Gibran said about marriage in The Prophet: Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

Don't be that guy who noone ever sees anymore because he met a new girl. We all know one! Best advice I was given is to keep doing whatever it is that you like doing and you'll meet someone who is similarly minded to you. Keep going to church and going to dirt bike events and you'll eventually meet someone on the same page with like minded values. Boozing it up at the bars and pubs generally is not a good place to meet your future spouse.

I love how all of these yeah comments are from dudes. I agree with being reserved and not moving too fast. Straight up yes. But..being aloof, playing a game of indifference..eh not a good move. Games with a woman who not only knows her value and worth will get you dropped like a hot potato. If a man is interested he needs to pursue and state his intentions. Don't play games period. Leaving a woman constantly questioning what your motivation or intention is will not lead to pleasant things or a future. Be yourself, be confident and content with being able to be alone yes, dont smother yes.. but also be man enough and confident enough to clearly state and display your intentions with the woman you are interested in. Games are for children not grown adults.

I agree, why? Because I don't like it when a women plays games with me either - keeping me guessing as to her intentions and where she stands emotionally and on a commitment level. Its stressful and probably is a path to self-destruction. Honestly, its hard, especially when I meet lovely Christian girls who love the Lord, but are timid or unsure about themselves. One day though, one day, my friends at Church assure me I am gonna find an exceptionally amazing wife!!! :D

Ma'am, thank you, this is how I won the most amazing woman on the Planet. I chop the wood, shoot the Guns, fix the Tyres and all that other "manly" stuff, but I've taught her how to do it as well in case I'm not around. I try to make her laugh everyday and fix dinner if I'm home first, we share the cleaning and other mundane chores - only mostly without complaint if I'm really honest. Second only to my absolute love is - respect.

This is clearly a tactic only appreciated by someone who has received wisdom through age. Too many young people don't know what to do with a direct approach like that. They will take advantage if possible, and not necessarily on purpose. Young people are naturally selfish, and it takes a lifetime to grow away from that inclination. A little bit of keeping them guessing will get a younger guy further, IMO.
