As a vegan, I don't eat dairy but drink kombucha tea and make my own sauerkraut every year. I had the flu in 1993 and it was bad. My mother brought a quart of her mother's recipe out and told me to drink the brine off it. By that evening, I felt better. The next morning, I went to work like nothing had happened. Since then, I always make homemade kraut and drink the brine every now and then. I haven't had the flu again since then and I've taken care of many that have and never caught it.

Wow, you are lucky that you can tolerate that hefty dose of salt! For others, if you have trouble with high salt foods, you may want to quickly rinse the kraut before digging in.

Great video! We love homemade sauerkraut like this but my teenager likes to add some shredded carrot.

@@BethsHappyHome yes, it’s the same. We start eating it while it’s still (slaw)… I have to make a couple of gallons at a time.
