Hey Cody, plant mechanic from Australia here, they are a great little machine definitely a good choice the 249 over the 239. Highly recommend getting a 4 in 1 bucket to go with it it will ad so much versatility. Also Pro tip get a cat padlock and put it through the hydraulic cap lid, I've seen many operators in a rush fill the hydraulics with Diesel by mistake. Good luck and happy digging

@@wranglerstar I made a separate comment but I thought I'd hijack this one to make sure you saw it. A couple of notes on the machine. Make sure to have the fuel tank and lines on the system fully checked for debris before you take it out of the dealer's. The nature of the particle filter on these makes it super common for gunk to get in there, and if it does it'll put the machine in a state of constant stall. Left alone it'll trash the system. I've known people who've had to replace the entire fuel pump and one guy who needed a whole new carburetor. Debris from the tank made its way in and bricked the whole assembly, though how specifically he managed it I've never quite figured out. In a vehicle as dirty as this that's been used by people who clearly didn't care too much about it, those are the two big things I'd check, because they're not visible from the outside, but are potentially catastrophic a few months down the line. All well and good if the dealer will fix them, not great if the machine goes down after a blizzard

Cody, even with very the low hours, you should buy a filter head with a filter and get some couplers and a couple hoses made and run the auxiliary hydraulics through the filter and then you know if there’s any contaminants within the system you can put them in that filter. And then change both hydraulic filters on the machine. It would make for a great video. Congrats on the machines God bless you Brother.

Having extra hoses is a must. If one goes your machine is down for the count and its a easy fix to replace if you have extras on hand. Ive seen newer hoses let go and old ones with the metal braid exposed last a million years. Kind of just dumb luck i guess.

My friend got a 2003ish New Holland skid steer (has tires, not tracks unfortunately) with about 70HP for $13k. And man is that thing is amazing and so much fun to drive, it's like playing in a massive sandbox as a kid. His uses pedals for the lift/curl instead of the joysticks though and I'm pretty sure other than the seatbelt lockout, lights, and starter it could be run without any electrical. Leaps and bounds ahead of using his tractor with the loader...

Congrats on the purchase. I think you got a good deal. As someone who owns a yanmar tlb, mini ex and a cat 259d, there’s no replacing the dedicated equipment for a job. I tell people the tractor is like a leatherman, it can do everything just nothing as good as the tool it’s replacing. It’s not gonna grade like a skid steer or dig as nice as a excavator. Best of luck with it!

Just an east coast guy talking but, I am So glad to see you finally get a skid steer. I have been watching since almost the beginning and you have come along way. So many projects that you have done I have thought to myself "If he only had a skid steer that would be so much easier". Having grown up on a farm and in the construction industry its hard to imagine doing some of the things that you have done without one. You now have the professional homeowner trifecta: Farm tractor, Skid steer, and Mini-excavator. I think you will find that the skid steer and the dump trailer go together like peas and carrots.

Good price. Purchased 2010 Bobcat T110 1500 hrs enclosed heated cab, 2 spd, 55” bucket, hiflo joysticks $24k, trucking from MO $2300. Was prev a rental. Have had to replace joysticks, treads, thermostat & hoses, elec fans & now the controller - it’s 11 yrs old. I wanted the smaller size, only made T110 2010-2019, 48” wide, 5200#. Had it 2 yrs, 100 hrs. If I had to do it over, would get a tad bigger, newer, and maybe a Cat.

I like CAT skid steer machines better than other brands. The controls are natural if you've ever run a dozer and a loader. They are the industry standard for a reason. Everybody else always try to copy or compare themselves to CAT because of that. Ease of operation and standardization of fluids. Parts availability and options. This truly is a great machine. I wouldn't go any smaller than the biggest one available.

Nice machine. CAT has great service. I’m not a CAT fan, they make good machines, and have good service. The reason I’m not a CAT fan, is because of their engines. I am a equipment mechanic for a rather large railroad… and the reason for not being a CAT fan, is we have to call them about 7 to 1 over Cummins or Deere due to emissions, or computer issues. With that being said, We could be working nights somewhere, have a failure that needs the CAT computer, make a call, and dude is there the next morning. I love their service. Cody, that will be a good machine for you for many years to come!

Still enjoy this channel but this one and others I regularly enjoy (looking at you Outdoors with the Morgans) seem to be, primarily, about how much cool equipment they can accumulate and major projects they can spend big bucks on. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge any of you guys going this route. If I had the cash to do it I'd be stocking up on equipment as well. Just noting want seems to be a trend on some of these channels. Enjoy though!

You have to understand that these purchases are business expenses for them; part of their business is bringing us along for the journey. You have to keep growing in life; if these channels just did the same content over and over it would get stale. The high flow gives you a lot more options for attachments. Cole the Cornstar recently reviewed skid loaders and you may want to watch that video. As I recall in Cole's video, there were some different preferences for how the door operates when the arms are up, I believe some manufacture's designs do not allow the door to be opened when the arms have been raised and there are differences in how the doors open, i.e. they raise up, the open to the side, etc. Looking forward to your next video on the Cat.

That switch you weren't sure about (looks like an upside-down T above a cup with a lock in it) locks out your hydraulics. It can add some safety to a situation where someone working around the machine could get hurt if you accidentally hit the controls. That upside-down T above a cup always represents a hydraulic piston. Some machine's have that symbol with a drop of oil in the cup and a thermometer beside it to indicate hydraulic oil temp, etc...

After running both in the snow I think I would prefer tires and chains over tracks, but have never tried chains.I have to laugh at new operators or drivers as I prefer to call them because the first thing they want to do is birdys which tear up the grass or make circular speed bumps to run over all day.

Nice job. Nice machine. I’m in the market for a skid steer but leaning towards deere for the lifting power

He's got the fizz, Im envisioning a small fleet of CATS parked outside the shop, a parade of yellow and black. Get yourself a big pot of catapillar yellow like henrys for the touchup cody😁 👍👍

I remember the old open air dozer you would use a few properties ago. Certainly have come a long way.

I'll only say this that JCB are way easier to get in and out of when you have attachment on and they're wet or icey and invisibility is way better. But it's always better to go with a good dealership that is local.

@@perryc8943 I figured as much. I will say an invisible skid steer would be pretty cool though.

check the wiring on your attachments. When we switched from Bobcat to Kubota we had to use a rewire kit for our snow blower. Hi flow makes a huge difference.

Love the progress. I think everyone would agree the skid steer has better performance over the tractor in some areas. Everyone has a different situation though. If you had to buy one over the other what would he answer be then. No different than the excavator vs. The tractor with a backhoe attachment. A tractor is great but can be cumbersome in some scenarios. Keep up the great content!
