what hairstyles do you reccomend for natural hair that arent tight, or involve straightening the hair? really not into straight hair aesthetically 90% of the time as a natural, and this video is advising we stop doing the main two styles that work for us. but then others say to also not wear our texture unstyled. what are we supposed to do lol

You sound like you're against natural hair and I don't get it. I haven't had a relaxer for 30 years. I use Shea butter based hair 'grease' to moisturize my hair. I use apple cider vinegar prior to washing to remove build up and 'grease' from the hair and to clarify my scalp. I comb my hair in the shower (when wet) to detangle. I do not have that much hair in my wooden comb and wooden bristle brush, only several strands of shedded hair from keeping my hair in plaits for 3 - 9 days. After washing, conditioning, and greasing, my hair goes back into plaits. I don't do wash-n-goes because it tangles my hair. I do twists and twistsouts occasionally for style but they tangle my hair too. Plaits keep my hair moisturized and straightens it a little. It's a lot of newbie naturals that bounced on the trend of being natural and have no idea how to maintain it and what to do. I guess you're for those people.

It’s interesting bc I get she’s educating but to continuously say that wearing your hair in natural causes damage? I think certain techniques may not be the best for certain curly textures. I’ve been natural for 10 years. I keep my hair in braids and wear it out occasionally and I don’t have cone damage. If this stylist showed how to be natural ( whether twist out or wash n go) it would be a different story. Wearing your hair straight using heat and high manipulation is a disaster for our hair .

Cyn, I just discovered your channel about a week ago and immediately subscribed after the very first video and have been binge watching ever since! I have learned SO MUCH! I am very fact based person and everything that you are saying makes 100% sense from a logical and scientific view. I plan to implement everything you’re teaching and am looking forward to the results. Over the past five years alone I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on natural hair products trying to find the “right one” to fit my so called “3C/4A” natural hair and following all of the confusing/conflicting advice of KZfaqrs and to no avail still struggling to maintain long healthy hair . I wish I had found you years ago. Right now my hair length is a little past armpit length, cut in many layers and I’ve been stuck here for years because of having to cut splitting ends every salon visit despite trying to follow all of the “hair advice”. Well, after watching your videos I am taking my hair completely back into my own hands. My goal is long, healthy waist length hair. Following you, I finally for the first time feel like I will actually be able achieve that. Thank you so much for being an advocate, going against the masses and honestly educating us on the real deal. I know this takes ALOT of hard work, time and dedication. You are so appreciated! Looking forward to my journey with you and recommending EVERYONE I can to your channel! 💛🙏🏼

Idk how I feel about this. I saw breakage here in this video, but the natural hair movement evolved from people sharing tips in forums. And slowly similar practices evolved as people grew and maintained longer and longer hair. Idk I see your point but at the same time it was easier to have longer thicker hair after following the tips of the natural community.

@winternightsky6945

I tried the regular afro, where you put water/cream/pick it. I realized I'm too lazy to do all that lol. So I tried to do the flexirods and loved my fluffy fro, until it broke off. I didn't even realize it broke off on the ends until I blow dried my hair straight. I would wash my hair every Sunday because my scalp itched/flaked a lot. So every Sunday I would put flexirods in and let my hair air dry overnight. I just went back to blow drying, flat ironing and put my hair in a top bun. My hair grew back longer and I was able to keep up with breakage which was no longer an issue. But then I don't like having straight hair too long because the bonnet doesn't stay on, plus you're ducking/dodging water in any form, don't want to work out and be obsessed with keeping it straight. I finally just got boxed braids and get them done every two months. So at least I get two months to not have to worry about hair. But I'm not committed to join the loc community lol
@MT-yx5cu
@MT-yx5cu 7 ай бұрын
Why not just blow dry your hair then twist or bun it instead of frying your curls and risking your health to maintain straight hair? My hair is almost waist-length from from this practice. Your hair doesn't have to be bone straight to see damaged ends. I use the Revair and it's so much easier to gently blow dry with, but I use a regular blowdryer with a comb attachment before getting the Revair. Hope this helps😊.
@IamCynDoll

@winternightsky6945
@winternightsky6945 7 ай бұрын
@@MT-yx5cu I tried blow drying/twisting years ago but by the end of the day the curls would have dropped or wind/ humidity would mess it up. I didn't like twisting every night/or every other night nor putting gel/creams/spray to try to keep the curls. Because it would create product build up and irritate my scalp causing more itching/flakes. When I started wearing my hair straight I had gotten my scalp condition under better control so I didn't have to wash my hair every week anymore. So I only flat ironed my hair with one pass, 1-2 times a month, wrapped it/or put it in a bun. Heat has never been an issue for my hair, my hair reverted back to itself natural pattern with no problem. I never really wore my hair down, I preferred the sleek top-knot bun, so my hair stayed straight longer. But I started working out and it would mess up the roots. It was either workout or don't because I'm worried about keeping straight hair. So for the past 3 years I've been in box braids and have been able to workout without worrying about my hair. Well until it's time to take them down and get them back up a week later lol. I love my hair, I just hate doing hair period.

I use mostly my fingers to separate my hair when shampooing and the Kazmaleji comb brush during my deep conditioning session to evenly distribute the product. I thoroughly detangle during my blow-drying session with my tangle teaser. I've seen less hair in both brushes from doing this routine. I only straighten my hair in the colder month which is the best time for me to get a good trim. Warmer months I wear my blown out hair in flat-twists and keep my hair off my shoulders.

Hi Cyn, thanks for the video. I went natural about 3 yrs ago and it was a huge learning curve. I've mainly wore my hair in twists, but now in the past 8 months or so, I've been blow-drying my hair because my hair tangles easily in twistsouts or wash-n-gos. I have high porosity hair and I've always used a lot of conditioner to detangle it while wet, but I do brush it out before washing it. My question is, are you proposing that I should let my hair dry first and then blow dry it out afterward? And if you recommend a roller set, which ones specifically? TIA

I just discovered your channel and I’ve been a natural for 12 years. All I know is the techniques you’re saying are wrong or bad. So my question is “what is the better way of caring for my curls without doing hours of work on my head?” I want to be able to sleep comfortably without things on my head. I like how my curls look naturally and don’t have time to manipulate it with perm rods and things. Are natural homemade products (aloe Vera, eggs, bananas etc) better than chemicals for curly hair care?

Hi Cyndoll, you are absolutely correct about detangling wet hair. I was brand new to natural hair. I only had braids twice, both times I was told to put conditioner on my wet hair after taking my braids out. My hair was so tangled and I didn’t know what to do. I pulled out so much hair that I knew that amount of hair coming out was not normal. It got so bad I decided to cut out the knots. After that happen I realized braids were not for me because I had balls and handfuls of long hair coming out. I always had bra length hair until my hair appointment with the Dominicans for color which resulted in over processed and she told me I had lost a lot hair and that it needed to be cut and after that I continued making appts for almost 2 years without realizing she was frying my hair. It’s been back to back hair setbacks & that’s what lead me to braids. I’m starting over with you and apply your science to my hair care regimen💕

Hi dear, I have a question. Thank you for your advice about wash n go's. I'm assuming wash n go's are also bad for looser and all textured hair - is this the case? Im just thinking how one can style and wear their curls. Can wash n go's be done once in a while?

I always detangle my hair before washing. Is it ok to run the brush through my hair after I’ve shampooed and applied the conditioner to evenly distribute the conditioner? I’m mixed race with thick coarse wavy hair similar to an Indian but I still find your videos helpful and educational because hair is hair :)

Great question! There is a difference between combing and detangling. When your detangling your removing knots and tangles. When you comb your massaging the cuticle and spreading product and your natural sebum.❤️ You can comb while wet because there is no resistance.❤️ Detangle dry with oil so you don’t break the bond. Slip in conditioner comes from oil.❤️

You don’t DETANGLE wet you can COMB your hair wet. Detangling is removing knots and tangles.

So how do you apply deep conditioner if you don't use a comb?
@IamCynDoll
@IamCynDoll 7 ай бұрын
With your hands. Do you need a comb to put on lotion? You smooth lotion on your skin after a shower, put conditioner on your hair after you shampoo. It’s so simple.

Geez I accidentally deleted my comment trying to edit it so I’m reposting and hope you see it and help. Can you do a video for us ladies that sweat a lot in our heads. I do wash n gos and twist outs only bc I don’t know what else to do. I prefer straight styles but don’t to relax my hair again. Straight styles don’t last more than a few hours bc I sweat so much

I sure can we have the same issue. I have a extremely active sweat gland. Video coming soon.

When I de tangle my 4c hair gently when dry, I notice tiny pieces of hair on my shoulders and in the sink, how do I minimize it or stop it.
@IamCynDoll

Use oil love that’s the place oil holds in hair care. Get a light oil like almond oil or hempseed place a small amount on your hair and comb out all tangles. Making sure your hair never gets tangled prevents breakage the best. Your routines need to change.
