Why I choose to install a solar powered generator to power my house. The utility company in my area keeps raising the price of electricity and I had to do something about it. I did a lot of researched and stumbled upon portable solar power generators. After looking into multiple brands and devices. I went with the Bluetti Ac200Max. I paired the solar generator with used LG panels and eventually bought the Bluetti B300 expansion battery. I installed a generator transfer switch myself and flipped the switch to get off the grid.

Great video. I purchased my 200MAX before the B300 batteries came out. Im running 2 of the B230s. For backup on cloady days, I've purchased a small, very efficient propane generator. It will put out 500 watts continuously. The AC200 will except up 500 watts from a generator. It will run 5 hours on 1 pound of propane and is extremely quiet.

Excellent video, this is the info we needed, we have bought the bluetti ac200max & the extra solar charging adaptor so we can pull the max 1400 of solar power into out. We will now get the generator conversion kit like you did to hook it up to our mains & buy the extra 300 battery too. So exciting given our elec bills in the UK are due to explode 5 fold next month.

That's awesome. I'd suggest over paneling so you always get 900 watts when the sun is up. Also take into consideration you might have to go back on the grid during cloudy stormy days. Let me know if you have any questions I might be able to help.

In the winter time, I will go back on the grid, and during the day be on solar! This way you get the most expensive power at daylight and the cheapest power at night to charge up your batteries!

great video! i recently purchased the ac300 and two b300 batteries. Been powering my fridge, router, modem, tv and x box one. Then i ran some extension cables to my microwave and coffee maker. Still had plenty of power(i have 8 used panels from san tan solar at 65.00 each) so i also added my computer and a large toaster oven. Its a great way to lower your electric costs and have power ready to go if/when the grid has problems.

I've gone with the same Model as this youtuber, but am adding a 2nd battery, as I don't want to drop below 50%. Same setup. I'm in Canada, so as soon as I have a woodburning stove, I'm covered for power outages completely. And with Prices going up for electricity and general inflation, it's one of the best decisions I made!

The way it works is. If my generator is full and Im power devices a microwave. The microwave is using power from the generators battery. Then the generator drops down to 99% the solar input kicks in to charge it back up.

Hi Andrew, I enjoy your videos. I purchased a Honda 2000 watt generator to charge up my solar generator when there are several days of clouds. I live in Florida and have experienced no electricity for a week on 2 occasions in the last few years. The Honda is small,portable, quiet, burns very little gas and gets the job done. It should fully charge your AC 200 from zero to 100% in a few hours.

Thanks for all of the videos. I'm in central California and my main goal was to have some kind of backup for the house so I found your video with the transfer switch. I purchased one along with a champion duel fuel inverter which works well, and I just got an AC 200 Max with a b230 yesterday. I have solar panels coming and will slowly add on to it. I initially put a panel on my shed with a deep cycle lead acid and a 1,000 watt inverter to charge my weed eater batteries and used that to get a little over 400 watt hours into it today. My average for 8 months is 8 KW a month, but In the summertime I easily go over 20 kilowatt hours. Last months bill was $340 and so far I'm up to $150 for this bill. I also have a 10,000 BTU window unit coming this week, so hopefully that will help knock down the bill a little bit too. Anyway thanks and keep the videos coming I'll be watching.

@@OffGridSolarSmartHouse Yes, my refrigerator and my other phantom loads which end up coming to 4 to 5 Kwh a day and that ends up being about $60 a month. My circuits are the bedroom outlets, the furnace and one wall in the living room outlets, the kitchen outlets, and part of the garage so I can run my washing machine and open the garage door. So, eight months out of the year I will have a very small electric bill.

Very smart plan. Put as much as you can on the ac200max. I wasn't able to use the bluetti to power my washer machine. Not sure if it was trying to pull more than 15 amps.

@@OffGridSolarSmartHouse the champion was bogging on the washing machine but it was it was still running it kind of it's rated at 1650 Watts on propane. I assumed the Bluetti would do it, but I haven't tried it yet. Just tried it the agitation seems really strange so I flipped that switch back onto the line.

Nicely done, and you hit on all the exact things that make this so exciting. Portability, scalability, and simplicity. I am doing the exact set up you are, but I don't see how the AC, even window units, really work.....they suck the watts..... Outside of that though, pretty straight forward ..thanks

Get like 4 Harbor freight panels and a roypow battery to add to the bluetti. It's like $750 all together. I got the ac200p and that little addition was a game changer.

I really love the idea of an all-in-one generator, but they also sell solar inverters for pretty cheap. It's just an extra piece between the batteries and the panels. This lets you buy your own batteries for cheap. But like you said, they have so many cycles nowadays that you don't really have to replace batteries pretty much ever. So getting a generator over going all DIY really just saves money on battery capacity overall. I think a generator is perfect for your usage. My parent's house uses like 50kWh per day, so I need a real massive battery hookup if I want to tackle that. My apartment, though? This is probably a good solution.

Hi Dev, my mom a few years ago did exactly what you described by buying the batteries and inverters. She mounted it on a piece of wood and cargo truck or dolly. She spent almost the same amount as I did for the same unit. She likes mine more because of the safety reasons and more portable. Thank you, Yes we don't use a lot of electricity. Imagine the price on a 50kwh battery Whoa. Yes for an apartment this could work. Have a few portable flex panels on your patio porch with the solar generator in the apartment with a few things plugged into it. Maybe if the solar wasn't charging the unit up all the way during the day. Use the grid on OFF peak hours to charge it up and still save money.

As always, sorry for my bad english. I did it just like you. When I got my AC200 Max, I ran extension cords all over the apartment. At some point my vacuum robot went crazy. :D I only have a small apartment and when the sun stops shining I usually have about 88% of the battery left. Then in the evening a bit of TV and PC and when I wake up in the morning I'm still around 30%. I don't think the AC200 Max is beautiful because I would prefer an Ecoflow product, but the performance of the 200 Max is incredible. I've heard from many people that solar is addictive and in fact shortly after I got the AC 200 Max I bought 2 more panels to my 2, then the adapter and now there are 1-2 more panels. I still have to save a bit on the B230 or B300, which are unfortunately very expensive. Anyway, great video and I look forward to more :)

I have a robot vacuum as well. We couldn't use it for about a month. Solar life is addictive. It's becoming a way of life for me at the moment. I'm constantly thinking of ways I can save more energy or improve upon my system. Yes the Spare batteries come with a hefty price tag. I got very lucky and was able to snag a B300 for $1700 USD which is still a lot. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate it.

Yes, You will have to over panel your system to get that 900 watts at all times AND probably get a enhanced charger D050 to bring in another 500Watts. The only downside to this is its a separate solar array.

Thanks Andrew for the update. The only thing that I don't like about this unit is that big and noisy AC fan. It runs all the time it is plugged in and is quite annoying at times.

Hi Thor, So check this out. My original unit was really loud and noisy. The fans would kick on all the time. This unit the screen died randomly. I shipped it back to Bluetti and they gave me a new unit. This unit was different. so much quieter. I'd say by more than half the original unit. I think the newer units might have better quieter fans.

I keep my charger completely on attached to the generator until evening. My generator supplies the electric to my refrigerator and freezer and air conditioner all day long. Then as the percentage drops, I plug in the charger at 6:00 p.m. sometimes not until 9:00 p.m. and then it recharges the shortage back up to 100% by daylight.

Just an fyi that a professionally installed solar system has a return on investment when selling. It's usually about 5%, so if you have say a home worth 300K in your neighborhood, your home with professional panels is worth about 315K, meaning a 100% roi given the 15K cost your relative quoted. Same is true with back up generators. I love the setup but think a traditional system permanent install would have been better and more economical to expand if needed. No need to move and you get reimbursed for the cost and saved energy in the meantime. Would be nice to have seen your set up with the panels and such to see where you mounted and how.

I'm facing this issue right now. I have a few extra solar generators I have charged that I use to charge my main system. When all else fails I switch back to the grid at 1am when the rates are cheap to charge my main system up. I also have a wind turbine that I have tested to see if it's possible to charge the bluetti. It is now I have to mount and see if the wind will bring enough energy in.

I recently bought an AC200MAX + B230, discharged fully, recharged to full, and plugged my entire home office into it. It eats ~20% per-hour, so runs my office for about 5 hours, before it needs to be fully recharged again, but I currently lack the large solar panel array to keep it topped off. It's a great device, but it definitely won't power a whole house for a day or more.

The larger solar array with the enhanced charger for more solar input might be able to off set the negative 20% per hour. For larger homes the ac300 might be a better option. More solar input and larger capacity for storage.

Add the 2nd backup battery and more solar panels. You can put 1200 watts of solar power in that generator because.....it will never get 100% 1200 watt charge. You can still pull about 750-900 effectively. Besides, the generator controller shuts it off at 900 but with the other batteries. Once the main generator is full, it will start to fill the additional batteries. I only have 875 sq. ft of space in my cabin here and I plan on powering everything with the Bluetti yet still keep it connected to the grid. Fill it up from the grid first, then have the solar panels charge the additional batteries while you're home is using from the main generator battery. I think you just need more panels. I'm using (4) 275 watt panels for my system.

I have 6 260 watt solar panels on my roof. I tried to over panel and stay within the limits. Your right, charge the bluetti then left over juice after bluetti is full charge additional batteries. You could look at the enhanced charger and have a separate solar array in a different direction maybe west to take advantage of the sun set time. The enhanced charger allows for an addition 500 watts.

thanks for the video I have a Ac max and just bought a b230 same here I live in CA and its was getting expensive so I did the same thing I was thinking why give the electric company my hard earned money when I could invest in solar and save that money I don't have that many panels slowly buying more each time I currently have 800watts of panels and only getting 580 watts I have a question during the winter months are you able to fully charge your battery and generator with what you have I currently use mine for the summer for a wall a/c that I have that draws 550watts and ac max with the battery that last the whole peak hours from 4pm-9pm with just the a/c in the summer last year summer months I spent 350. every month on electric and this year spent 150. thanks for your videos and keep up the info

Hi MrduckMan 1, so during the colder season if there's sun out. I can easily charge my entire system back up by 11:00 11:30am . I can pull in 920 watts of solar. During the summer I've noticed that the heat really does hurt your solar efficiency. I have a Small window Air conditioner I use right now and it draws around 390 watts. I leave this on all Night long while powering the rest of my house. When I check on my system in the morning I still have 35-40% battery. We had a really cloudy day recently and the sun didn't come out at all. My system did charge back up but only to 80%.

The amount of watch received from your panels is not going to be the maximum amount of what your panels can put out. There are always clouds or tree limb or something slowing it down.

I have split panel unfortunately the outside panel has my water pump on it and the household on the subpanel inside. Can i just put an outlet plug outside and plug in to the rv output plug.

Thank you for responding. A transfer switch would not work as I live in Arizona haul water need the water pump to run in an outage but it is on the outside main breaker box. All my house breakers are inside panel. If I connect an RV plug to the main box and plug the 200 max in to it would it work? Sorry very new to this hope I explained better but I definitely have the solar bug now

One thing to note is that when you have the extra batteries connected and you drain the whole system to zero, The AC200MAX will not charge the extra batteries. You have to charge them manually.

Steve, your correct. I haven't had this happen yet. since I haven't drained it that far down. One thing I could do to avoid this is, since I have the B300 I could connect a separate solar panel to the B300 and this would turn it on and charge it up if it died.

Yes sir, I am not looking forward to the additional work in charging the add-on's separately however, I'm thinking that Bluetti may in the future solve that with an upgrade. We'll see.

I've come up with a easy solution for this. More of a set it and forget it approach with add on batteries. I'll make a small video on this soon.

Might his work? Take the AC charger and plug the wall 3 plug into the MAX (to keep power to the B230) then plug the round tip into the B230 …. Plug the solar into the MAX ….. when the B230 needs charging it gets the power from the MAX AC circuit and the MAX get’s it’s power from the sun ….. no sun? Use a generator to charge the MAX which will charge the B230 via the wall charger. Like a constant loop (dog chasing it’s tail) …. Thoughts?

This sounds like a good solution for those people that have the B230 and when their system is drained to 0 the b230 turns off. The Max wakes up with solar and could start charging the B230 to wake it up. Kudos.

I recently had installed Tesla Energy 12 solar panels and one Powerwall (A battery storage unit.). My solar panels power my house and recharges my Powerwall during the day. At night, my Powerwall powers my house and during any power outages. So, I am off the grid, but now the grid is my backup to my Powerwall. Excess energy is sold back to my energy company for a credit. This is called net metering. Awaiting Tesla and my state to approve Virtual Power Plant or VPP, so I can sell back my excess energy for cash.

Curious, do you have a smart meter on your home? I had mine removed and my bills are much less until last month. Trying to figure that out. But they can't tell what you are you using electricity for nor charge you peak hour prices because anolog meters dont give them that break down. My understanding. They do charge $20 month opt out fee and $20/month to read it manually. That's a rip off. They only read it every other month and on the off months they charge me what it was last year same month and say they make up the difference the next month on the readout. I don't see how that's legal and I told them so. I even wrote the attorney general and got the response it was all legal.

I don't think I have a smart meter. I'm able to login to my power companies website and see what I used. I can see it daily,.weekly, monthly.

@@OffGridSolarSmartHouse My "usage" on my account on their website always says unavailable and they told me it's because I don't have a smart meter. They only get the usage by their manual reads every other month.

I have been looking into solar panels. Do you have a go to place that has affordable quality panels. I have heard that rich solar panels produce alot of power. Have you heard any good or bad about them. Thank you.

Hi Roger, are you looking for rigid or flexible panels? There's a lot of good cheap used panels in my area. I think I paid around $70-to $80 for used 260 watt rigid LG panels. I looked on craigslist, facebook market, and offerup. I tested the panels with my bluetti before I bought them too. I took it with me along with a long PV cable and pointed the panels at the sun. Each panel I bought was over 200 watts. I really want to get some Flex panels next though for the D050 enhanced charger.

Hi woody, I hear you. For my main solar array I have 6 260 watt rigid panels on my roof. I was thinking flex for a second solar array I could deploy with the enhanced. I have 3 spare rigid panels but it's a pain to drag them around.

@@OffGridSolarSmartHouse I was looking at rich panels last night for a home I'm building in HI I think it was like 4000 for 3.50 kilowatt DIY with back up batteries I follow another youtuber that did a comparison can't recall what name is but probably the best out there Anyways looks like you have it figured out

No hot water or electric heat----- just a refer and a few small items. My Bluetti will only run off 2 panels or you over load and burn up your system

This is correct. Larger electrical items will require a larger inverter.

I wouldn't waste my money on anything I didn't research. I'm not rich. The batteries are lifepo4 and have a lifecycle of 3500 uses at 80% and 6000 lifecycles at 50%

those lithium Phosphate batteries can be recycled over 3500 times! Man, it will take ten years to run it down to a 80% capacity if you use it everyday. Bluetti's batteries Rock.

😂we was once a week. Its just my wife and I. We have a gas heater that we use but not often. I use a window AC or portable Ac unit in the summer.

@@OffGridSolarSmartHouse geez I must be doing something wrong. I use 10kw in a day if I don't use heat or AC and watch just 1 hour of tv a day. I think my house while we are away on vacation will use about 8kw a day so that is with nothing on besides security lights and fridge.

@@Jrfeimst2 You'd be surprised on what takes up a bunch of energy. I have a light that uses as much energy as my window air conditioner. An older 4k tv 55inch that uses nearly 400 watts. My newer 65inch 4k tv uses 120 watts. Small things add up.

My fridge is actually pretty old so I’m sure it uses a decent amount but it still runs great and no reason to spend a lot of money on a new fridge just to save a buck a month. But other than that I don’t have hardly anything on when we go somewhere. I don’t know lol. Oh well.
