it sounds like they Value Engineer'd the living shit out of it but left just enough so it still checks all the relevant specification and longevity requirements...provided you read the O&M's..... as somebody that also works for an electrical manufacture, i'm pleased to say that we DO allow for headroom in our products which is why our faulty return % is so low per 10,000 units

Thanks for your honest opinion. I am looking for a recumbent bike, and Im torn between the Sole LCR, NordicTrack R35 and Spirit XBR95. Of the three, NordicTrack has the best screen, and the controls on the hand rests seem like a nice feature, but Ive owned several pieces of Sole equipment and trust that brand as they've never let me down. I know little about Spirit as a brand, but the bike gets great reviews. In the U.S., all three are very close in price, and Im at the point of 'analysis paralysis.' I appreciate your review and I will certainly factor into my decision.

Hi Darrin - Sole and Spirit are both trading names of Dyaco. The Spirit brand is a little more up-market and aimed at the light commercial market whereas Sole is generally premium domestic. I would avoid the Nordic. I'll leave it with you to decide between the Sole and the Spirit!

Hello, Thank you for your video. Do you have any resources to trouble the ProForm 12.0 tt staying on the internet? It connects intermittently and will work for a week, then not. Any advice?

The obvious thing to try is moving your machine closer to the wifi router. If that does not fix then you will probably need a new console. On some models it is possible to update the software but sometimes when I've tried this the console fails completely so probably best to speak direct with Proform and get their advice (which will probably be to buy a new console!). Best wishes, Jon

@@charteredengineer Respect that you replied to a nearly 1 year old video! What treadmill would you recommend for 2 users about an average of 1 hr a day for each user ( 2 hrs a day) for moderate walking mostly under 3 mph with the ability to incline?
@charteredengineer
@charteredengineer Жыл бұрын
@@ReactorFX I would suggest a good quality domestic machine. I choose to sell Flow Fitness T2i and Tunturi T40 competence treadmills - both of these are available via my website and ebay store with prices included. As alternatives, I think if you look for a good size motor (2HP upwards), a good warranty (2 years or more) and stick to a known brand that is well supported and with good reviews then you can't go too far wrong - for example, Sole is a brand worth looking at- check out the Sole F63. Hi Jon, firstly thank you for your video. We have a York Fitness T101 treadmill from Argos at (£300ish) which my father bought roughly 17 year ago. It came with a lifetime frame warranty and a 10 motor warranty. Unfortunately the motor died around 2 years ago. I purchased a replacement motor from Yorks official website at around £85 and installed it myself. It worked great for around 9 months and then died. They honoured a replacement which lasted an hour. The belt has since locked up which I don't remember occurring before. With your comments regarding landfills and seeing how awful the choice is for new treadmills I'd much rather refresh my old one if at all possible. Unfortunately I have no idea about diagnosing the board or how to find somebody to possibly repair the original motor which I've kept along with the replacements. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you 🙏🏽
@charteredengineer
@charteredengineer 11 ай бұрын
Hi - thanks for your feedback. I suspect that you may need a new running belt and possibly a platform. This could be the root cause of the reason why the motor is failing (due to overload because of excessive friction). Please feel free to email jonisaacs26@gmail.com with a some photos or a short video to show the problem and I will endeavour to assist further.

Hi Jon, Great to hear your view. I am looking at the Proform Trainer 8.0, DKN EZRun, purely because I have a limited space of under 190cm Long. I do also like the Noble Pro but not sure as it seems an unknown brand? Would love to hear your recommendations, will use for HIIT and Sprints mainly.
@charteredengineer
@charteredengineer Жыл бұрын
I am aware of the Noble brand but I don't know enough about it to comment on the quality or service. In terms of recommendation, I would look for a long warranty (5 or 6 years) and local after sales support - check the customer reviews via the reseller's website - for example, some fitness equipment warehouse-style resellers do not offer good after sales support and there have been long delays in getting spares from China due to Covid. Flow Fitness are well supported in Europe and offer a 6 year parts warranty.

Hi Jon thank you for sharing your expetise and honest opinion on these brands, Please can you recommend me a treadmill for the criteria below. Its a big disappointment to hear this about these brands as I was set on either purchasing the ProForm Sport 6.0 or ProForm T10 thinking that with them being in that price range (currently £800 & £1000) I would be getting something decent :( . I'm based in the UK, Mancheter I'll be the only user and plan to use the treadmill for about an hour a day. It will be a mixture of jogging and incline walking. Probably 70% incline walking and 30% jogging. The treadmill will be in the hallway area or in the dinning room. I previously owned a Reebok Jet100 and found it was fine for my needs. An hour a day with intervals of incline walking between speeds 5.0 and 7.0 and jogging at around 8.5/9.0. But then it developed a squeeking noise when jogging which I reported to Argos. An engineer came out to assess the fault and said it was a known issue with this model and luckily Argos issued me a refund without any issues. A shame really because it was fine for my needs. Thanks Rye

Hi Rye - thanks for your feedback. For your usage, I would suggest either the Flow Fitness T2i or Tunturi T40 Competence. Hope this helps, best wishes, Jon

Well, there's the high-end treadmill intended for constant use by an extreme group: big and tall men (e.g, NFL athletes) or in a muscle gym. These machines are properly maintained, obviously, in spite of how some of these larger-than-life folks might dog this equipment. The mid-range and lower-end models are the home versions and are designed for high usage. Like any equipment, they last well with proper care. Why should a company design its products with the "I trash everything' user in mind? I have used Proform products for more than 2 decades without issue whether at home (with basic care), in university gyms, or in muscle gyms. I am not a fan of NordicTrack products. I have tested many NordicTrack weight machines (older ones), treadmills, and exercise bikes over the years. For me, the design concept for their treadmills and bikes has been an uneven, clunky, and bumpy ride. To each, her/his/their own. Perhaps, securing an extended warranty for the “I trash everything.” folks, is an optimal proactive resolve.
@charteredengineer

Great feedback based on first hand experience - thanks for sharing. For info, Proform are made by the same people as Nordic Track (Icon Health and Fitness) however Nordic is the more premium brand. Icon do not make proper commercial products and if you see them in a commercial gym then should not be there as they are not made for that environment! Interestingly, Icon do brand some of their products as "commercial" such as the Commercial 2950 Treadmill, however, when you read the user manual on page 3 (point 7) it clearly states "for home use only". I think this is deliberately misleading and they shouldn't do it! Best wishes, Jon

I would go Bowflex for all the reasons explained in the video. The Nordic "commercial" is not a commercial product and that is misleading in my opinion and Nordic shouldn't do it. For that reason, I would not buy their products. As a rule of thumb if you can buy new then do so, and always go for the best warranty package you can get and extend it if you can! I agree. In my opinion, these products are engineered to operate in a very tight tolerance of compliance and if you deviate away from that tolerance then you can quickly have a cascade of faults making the machine irreparable in a cost effective way. Using the machine above the specified weight limit is one such way to shorten it's life!
