Why I Got Arrested in Ethiopia is a Tayo Aina Vlog where I share my unpleasant experiences traveling across countries like Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa. These are some of the not so cool travel experiences that go on behind the scenes of my travel across Africa. Im sharing this video because I know many other Nigerians might be going through similar experiences. Do like, Watch and Enjoy.

Sorry about your nightmare in Ethiopia my brother. It happens to the best of us. Before blogging became a fad, I owned an expensive Olympus 300 camera with a zoom lens. it was an eye -catcher. I was travelling to Nigeria from the US, via Rome. Would you believe that the casual Italian Constabulary pulled me out of a crowd to question me about my travels. It was very irritating and I was traveling with a US passport. That was all because I was a black man, wearing expensive track suit, with expensive basketball shoes, and carrying an expensive camera. Oh, I forgot! I was wearing dreadlocks also, before locks became the vogue. You just need to have your wits about it, and know that a lot of people are envious of Nigerians, regardless of their profession. Just pick yourself up and keep on trucking. You're just one of a kind, and no one can stop that.

I'm just becoming aware of country bias among African nations, but knew that there was pronounced hostility toward Nigerians. I found that out when I shared my family's heritage was Nigerian with a co-worker. Even though we were colleagues at a school in the U.S. the response was negative. It was also "colored" by the fact that I mentioned Ibo. I was cautioned to keep that information to myself. Puzzling response.

The hatred is real. But the crazy thing is, it didn't start today. A debate was conducted in 1957 in the U.S among four Africans. Nigerian, Ghanaian, South African and an Ethiopian. The Ethiopian told the Nigerian that he's prejudice against the N*groes. He claimed Ethiopians are from Israel. But the Nigerian spoke against the injustice that the black South Africans were facing daily in their country. The Nigerian called the Ethiopian guy a lost soul. The sad part is that this is not how foreigners are treated in Nigeria. Foreigners come to Nigeria and they share testimonies about how welcoming Nigerians are even at the airport. But Nigerians are treated badly when we visit other countries especially African countries. It's bad.

Wow, this is such a horrible experience. The wahalas that I've been through with a Naija passport around the world is INSANE. My worst experience was in Egypt! Travelling as an African across Africa is not easy at all. It's sad really. Very sad. We view each other with so much suspicion.

Sorry for your nightmare bro.As a Zimbabwean who lives in the West I have been through my share of dramas with Airport customs. LAX Airport in Amerikkka was my worst experience. When I was in transit in Dubai,I was stopped for a random check, they grabbed by stomach and started pressing me hard looking for drugs, I thought X-ray machines are for that purpose. I was also stripped searched on my way back from Russia, they accused me of doing something illegal, even though I had visas, photos and details of my work etc.Sometimes they have incompetent Airport staff who become too absorbed with their jobs, hence they dehumanize travelers,it happens a lot in the West too.But Africa needs to do better,we must treat each other better.

Also I’m a South African in the west and my worst experience was in my own country 😅. I flew from Brazil back to Johannesburg and they searched me and wanted me to pay them for anything I bought overseas. Then I spoke to another Black lady and seen tweets by other ladies that it happens to them it doesn’t matter what’s the destination they’re trying their luck. So sometimes it’s our own people man 😅

So sad to hear this Tayo, i remember when I travelled through Kenya from SA in 2002, I had a very unpleasant experience and swore never to pass through Nairobi again. But then I got to Lagos and a custom officer demanded i show proof I am a physician ( while entering my country😀 for no reasonable reason) meanwhile, she happily collected $50 from a white South African who was behind me. We are indeed our own problem. I wish you luck it will be touch, you have to fight for your right. Don’t be discouraged. Follow your dreams.

Thanks for telling us, as a Nigerian I will never fly their planes or visit them ! Thanks for the tip! I have travelled over 30- 40 countries all around the world, the worst places was Venezuela and Mexico! They dispose my luggage and had to buy a new one because they slashed everything looking for the “white stuff” which they could not find. There good Nigerians too who suffer

It based on your nationality. Not your race. Are you travelling alone? More risk. Did you buy you flight just recently? More risk. Where are you coming from? Brazil? Syria? More risk. Certain nationalities have a higher than normal factor in various things. Like Narcotics. Sadly for this Nigerians and nationalities like Brazilians are singled out more. For a UK or a Egyptian citizen the risk for Ethiopia would be issue about spying & espionage.
