I've heard about one rule which I'm inclined to think is *the* rule: "If it sounds good, it is good." All of the tips and tricks are just ways that might work to get there, and the more you know and understand, the more likely you are to get to sounding good more quickly. But the crucial aspect that often gets glossed over is that learning what sounds good is a skill, and training your ears takes both time and attention.

Hey bro. Yeah that makes sense! But music is like fashion! Today we love deep bass and crispy topend. In 10 years we will like another "norm". The music industry the big players definde these rules. They got their people who represent these standards outwards. Similar to the fashion and celebrities. And we small bedroomproducers struggle with all this Standard shit trying to achieve the "pro sound". We are distracted from the thruth. Music is not standards or norms. Music is love, passion, emotions, movement, rhythm and much more. So don't worry about norms just make music! Peace tru music!

I had to learn this the hard way. Always thought there was some "shortcut" to making my music sound amazing. When in reality, I didn't fully understand what I was working with. Well said!

Thank you for sharing this insight. What I also like is that you don't use (soft) background music in this video. On neuronal level it is better to separate tasks (listening is also a task) from listening to music. Our brain get mixed up when we do both.

Honestly someone live mixing and explaining the choices they make as they do them is probably the best learning content, but it would require much more attention span than most people today have.

I can tell you for certain, if a music production video includes the words, “…that no one is talking about,” I’m out of there.

And that category of "always be selling", esp. plugins. No one minds someone making a bit on top when they pick products with integrity, but too much grift sinks credibilty with me.

I just skip the videos about "N pro tricks ..." Because from my experience as a software engineer, you can just adopt like all the hacks from the industry (even if they are real) - the speed of your skill growth is limited. Better learn one thing, practice it for a while, get used to it, and then get other tricks. Even more, learning 1 thing at a time is even faster than going for N things at a time :)

Stop with the "THIS IS WHY YOUR MIX SUCKS" crap and some of us dudes with home studios will respect them more... just my thoughts... Also... thanks for your honesty on this subject... I appreciate your videos and help/advice...

This one time my mean relative said, "I'm the nicest person that I know" I wanted to laugh so hard, but I couldn't. I'm not saying you aren't being real here, but you don't have to put so much emphasis on it.

Good video. It always intrigues me why youtubers have to give "5" tips on a topic. They must have trouble counting after that. Also, the silly face on the clickbait thumbnail is the one I often scoot straight past. Cheapens the product me thinks. Like your channel.
