👋🏻 Hey guys! In today's video, I talk about study mentality and why I hate studying from the perspective of an A student who gets good grades. This video discusses the other things you can do instead of studying and why I think there are flaws in the educational system. Please note though: I am not saying that studying is bad and you shouldn't study at all, but rather you should have the right motivation (whether you enjoy it or your goals require it rather than peer pressure). This isn't really a helpful video but just wanted to get my thoughts on it out there. Hope you enjoy my spiel! 🤪
⏭️ If you enjoy this video and want to see more about studying or note-taking tips, please leave a comment down below saying what you found most helpful and suggest any new video ideas that will help with your future studies!

I agree! School just teaches us to learn how to learn. Focus on what matters to you. Work smart and never hard. Always have the end game in mind when embarking on a task. Going 100% in every task is just going to prematurely wear you out.

I disagree🤠 school doesn’t teach us the correct or proper way to learn, teachers just teach info and students grasp it how they can. 🥲

I agree too. Studying 5 years of history and I’m sick of it! So many small details. I enjoy learning; but hate having to commit small irrelevant details to memory. Most of us put on weight and have no social life in uni too because we don’t have time to socialize if we want to maintain our scholarship and because we don’t have time to hike and do sports we once lived.

university has taught me that I can learn everything on the internet... Idk.. I just had a better expectation of university especially before the whole covid thing I used to like studying for hours every day through school and stuff but life slapped me in the face since around high school (especially since ccovid and now I can barely study like 3-4 hours a day cause I wanna actually have hobbies as you said

I think it's more compelling to think that you do not know what will be useful or not. Even if you're studying for a class in a completely different field from your focus, you may learn ways of thinking that might be useful later, or you may realize an insightful analogy for something you are working on. Additionally, it's really useful for people in STEM to learn from the social sciences and humanities because it can help you question what you are working on and why from a much broader perspective.

I also noticed the grading system is often unequal. If a prof favours certain people… I’ve seen students plagiarize material and never source their material and get better grades then me although I researched and sourced everything meticulously. I’ve also had two girls present my work as their own and the teacher covered up for them although she knew it was my work. I then had to redo my paper so mine was different while they didn’t have to even write one.

Hi, is it important to go to a high ranking primary school and secondary school to get in a good university? Many people move to a school zone for a good school. There are some websites which show the school rankings. I am not living in a high ranking school zone. So, should I move to a good school zone?? It's only for public schools not private. Does it matter if a kid does well at any school? Thank you.

What I feel is that..the education system is preparing us for the future...we are learnings those things we aren't interested in n in future we will be doing the jobs we will not be interested in..as we use to get marks their for study..n in future we will be paid for our work..no system teaches us to be ourselves..explore ourselves..how to handle emotions..they just want to maintain a pattern so that same trend is followed so that rich will be rich always

@philbanno
@philbanno 3 жыл бұрын
Coming from a 98+ ATAR student, the best way I found to prepare for written exams was to firstly organise your notes in accordance with the syllabus dot points, and then slowly over time practice writing out your notes on paper (just copying them out). As time goes on and you get better, try and look at your notes a little bit less and keep doing this process until you can remember at least 90% of your notes and can write them out without looking! But this is a slow process and should be started early on!

I agree and disagree with your take. This is my first video I watched in your channel so I might miss what other thoughts you might have about academic in general. I agree that 90% of the things you learn at school is useless and school forces you to take some time away from your hobbies, entertainment, relationship, lifestyle, etc. However, I do think school teaches us the fundamentals in a structured way for most things that we use ultimately in our career. For example, most engineering courses I assume requires team work and communication. These courses are taught or webbed throughout your time at university or college, which helps to develop your fundamental skills in those areas. Also, college or university is for most of us is a four year period in our life, which is not that much in our life span. From someone who worked in a co-op for 15 months (long one for sure), I can agree that you learn or hone other areas of skills in life that are more useful in that field of work. However, school being a system, teaches us to be prepared for whatever field we are walking into, although it might not teach us everything we need to know. For me, I try to enjoy what I learn even if I may not use it in the future and also, try to work smart knowing that school is another system in our life. A healthy balance has helped me achieve an A- to A+ grade so far.

But what if I don't even know what matters to me and I don't even know what I wanna do for the future? After highschool I went to Japan to study manga at a vocational school, I did graduated and get a diploma for it. That said, like every asian family my family thinks that art is useless since it won't make money, so they are forcing me to study economics bussiness in university after finished with manga. I did try to make webcomics and art contents in the internet, they never get good enough publicity moreover making money. I did love manga and anime growing up as well as people said I have skills in drawing. But because I get no profit or popularity out plus my family saying it is only good as a hobby, I gradually don't enjoy manga and anime anymore, I get demotivated to draw but idk what else I am good at. Long story short, I simply study to satisfy my family and I have no saying about it, plus I lost passion and feel like I wasted 3 years for a useless art degree and I don't even enjoy art anymore since my family sees me as a disappointment for it and it doesn't give me any profit as well, so now I really I have no goal in life or dream job whatsoever.
