i've never understood why mcu spidey gets so much flak on the interwebs, so i decided to put together an official defense of my boy tommy. to be clear, i love andrew and tobey as well, but this video was long over due. what do you guys think? is mcu spidey corporate trash, or is there actually more to him than meets the eye? let me know.

since this video is picking up a little traction, i just wanted to clarify something: I'm not saying that tony stark IS uncle ben. Tony stark is tony stark, and uncle ben is uncle ben. They are two wildly different characters. What i am saying is that tony fills the uncle ben role for MCU peter. Like a role model, or father figure. And like i said in the video, i think that this is a really interesting spin on the usual story, because we know tony so well, and that adds a lot to their relationship. Whether you like it or not, you have to at least appreciate that they tried something new here.

The main problem I have with the Tony Stark relationship is the fact that it takes away from Peter being his own man. MCU Spider-Man is a great character, but a sub-par Spider-Man. While part of the homecoming arc is about him finding that he doesn’t need the suit, it’s all backwards. He’s supposed to be a self made hero that doesn’t get much help. There’s so much iron man in the MCU Spider-Man’s life that it takes away from the character. His suit is completely made by Tony, and all of his villains are only there because of Tony. Iron man could’ve given him the suit in infinity war or even civil war, but there needs to be some build up before he can go from a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to a space-traveling Avenger.

Exactly. Some things in a comic don't work in a movie, ESPECIALLY if they were Comic Books IN THE 1960s, what worked THEN doesn't necessarily work NOW! That is probably one of my grips with something like Spectacular Spider-Man Cartoon (e.g. Peter asking Betty (who's 4 years older than him) to hi FALL FORMAL). I know this comment is probably going to make me internet enemy no. 1, but one day, I'll express my problems with Spectacular in a Video. Maybe people will listen. I think it's a very powerful moment when Tony tells him ''and I wanted you to be better'', baceuse Tony knows he selled dangerous weapons just like Voulture (I mean not really alien weapons but still pretty dangerous) and he created Ultron, this robot who wanted to kill everybody. But Peter don't know about any of that so he wanted to be just like Tony, but Tony knew he isn't the person somebody should be like. We saw his mistakes. You can tell how much Tony truly loved Peter and we know why Tony wanted Peter to be better because we knew so much about Tony even more than we knew about Peter, when with uncle Ben we don't know almost anything about him.

I think people miss this line often. It's clearly a reference to uncle Ben, showing that his death was likely similar to the one in the Raimi films; indirectly caused by Peter not acting on something. I feel like that line is from experience, the experience with uncle Ben to be exact, and that that line is much more important than actually showing uncle Ben dying. It shows the moral lesson he learned, and not the class in which it was taught to him.

All 3 versions are great in their own right. - Tobey's Peter showed the everyman struggle that his character went through. His films were about staying true to the classics, even if some things were changed here and there. - Andrew's Peter showed the Emotional side of Spider-Man. His films were centered around his relationship with Gwen Stacy (MJ was going to be introduced in the 3rd film before it got cancelled) and his chemistry with her was great. The action, music and visuals were awesome as well, even if the writing could used some improvement. - Tom's Peter portrayed the young and goofy side of Spider-Man. I can honestly get behind the Stark Tech upgrade, and he does retain some of Raimi Peter's dorky personality in a more appropriate setting, and has Webb Peter's scientific skills and tech-savvy side. He's also the one who acts the most like a teenager, and I enjoyed how the MCU handled his classmates as well. I know there are people who can (and will) disagree with me because they're entitled to their own opinion, but I'm just here to say that you can like the Live-Action Spider-Man without having to shit on the other versions.

At the end of the day I feel everyone has their version of Spider-Man. For me personally Tom Holland is my favorite live action Spider-Man and Peter Parker. I just like the he is in high school dealing with teenage problems and that he is in a universe full of other superheroes. But I also love Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. And I do enjoy the Spider-Man films in the MCU. But at the end of the day. Tobey, Andrew, and Tom are all great as Peter Parker and Spider-Man. I very much enjoyed this video. I also subscribed.

He has no high school teenage problems- except for love. Tony Stark is there to support him on money, he is really smart and gets good grades. An important part of Peter Parker is the consequences he gets for making mistakes. He can skip class anytime to stop villains using the excuse of his Stark Internship, Tony Stark is always there to help him with everything which takes away the point of showing that Peter has consequences. I am not trying to start an argument. Just stating how Peter barely struggles with anything. He has no teenage problems. Hopefully, you agree, and if you don't, good for you.

So far, I interpret Uncle Ben in the MCU as Uncle Ben from the Steve Ditko comics, who was just a guy that could've been saved if Peter did the right thing. Tony Stark is the role model that is sort of like the Uncle Bens from the previous Spider-Man movies. I say sort of because it's not Peter's fault for Tony's death, so Uncle Ben in the MCU did create MCU Spider-Man from his times of being the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man with the Homemade suit before Tony found him. Peter still has the mindset of the quote: "With great power comes great responsibility" from Uncle Ben's death, but Tony Stark is strengthening that quote and helping Peter become a better hero when he grows up.

Sure there have been KZfaq DIY video for making the suit but they are not nearly as good as the live-action suits. While I adore the Raimi and TASM2 suits, I often wonder how exactly Peter made them without suspicion. While the TASM 1 suit can be disliked, it is a somewhat realistic take on Peter’s rough draft suit which fits that movie’s tone.

You hit every criticism of MCU Spider-Man so smoothly. Thank you for this. Especially on the Tony Stark point. This is the only live action Spider-Man that exists in a world with other superheroes. Of course his story has to be different compared to the other iterations. Also, people will never admit it but their nostalgia influences their perceptions on this iteration as well. I like the Raimi trilogy just like every SM fan does but I also don’t think they’re this holy grail of perfection many fans pretend it is. I hope you’ve made a NWH video. Great video but im sorry u must be corrected. TONY STARK IS NOT UNCLE BEN. I don’t know how I can make this anymore clear. They’re both father figures to peter and impact him a lot but Tony isn’t the reason he’s Spider-Man. Ben is Peter rock, he’s the man who raised him and made peter the man he is. Peter is the heroic loving good willed kid because of Ben not Tony. Peter is Spider-Man because of Ben not Tony. Peter can’t look the other way again because of Ben not Tony. I’m not saying the MCU did it wrong, I love the MCU Spidey and I think they pulled it off so good with him, I feel like this peter reflects his Ben so much like you can see him in Peter. If Tony was Ben peter wouldn’t be Spider-Man in the first place but more importantly peter wouldn’t be so different from Tony, they constantly butt heads and never agree cause Tony can’t stop Peter, he can’t stop a kid fighting for his Uncle and that’s why I think the MCU did Uncle Ben amazing without even saying his name.

I love how you pointed out how comic book accuracy doesn’t matter. It’s so,etching I say all the time. The movies and the comics aren’t the same story. They’re different, by a lot, and that’s what makes them good. If they’re the exact same story, it’s boring, because you know exactly what happens next. But with the movies, you never know how they might differ from the books, which I love. Edit: I’m trying to say something positive about something, can people stop arguing like a bunch of pessimistic assholes in the replies, please?

Very well made video and I’m glad someone pointed out the good things about MCU Spider-Man. He may not be my favorite interpretation of the character, but I still love him regardless. However, while I do agree that Tony works as an ‘Uncle Ben’ in a way, I still feel like the MCU shouldn’t ignore the real Ben either. Uncle Ben is the reason Spider-Man has his morals, why he’s who he is today. Ben symbolizes the mistake Peter made, and why he can never let another person live with that same mistake. This is best represented in my favorite Spider-Man TV series, ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man,” where tombstone asks Peter to work for him and to, “look the other way occasionally.” Peter response to this is “I can never look the other away again, now let’s finish this.” That one line from Pete best describes his motivations, as well as his morals. It kinda bugged me seeing Peter beg Nick Fury to not fight the ‘Elementals,’ as it doesn’t match with his normal motivations, both in the MCU and outside of it. Uncle Ben is always going to be important. Without him, Peter wouldn’t really be Spider-Man and while he does exist in the MCU, he seems to have not left much of an impact on him outside of his one line in ‘Civil War.’

People need to understand that Tobey and Tom are very different depctions of the character. Tom grasps the young teenage kid in high school with superhero powers that deals with things that us young teens can relate to, while Tobey's deals with stuff that relates to the older audiences, so idk why people keep comparing these two honestly. Also, Tom is a spiderman who lives in a world filled with superheroes and he is just trying to do his part in this fantasy world he is living in while Iron Man is like the biggest character in the MCU so using him to introduce Spider-Man was the smartest move because they had some interactions and little relationships in the comics and TV shows so people are REALLY complaining that he loves him? In Homecoming we already learnt that Peter does not need Tony Stark or the suit because he already became a man in that movie but the reason he was still with Tony because they already grew a relationship but these braindead Raimitards dont wanna understand the good part of MCU Spider-Man and IMO, he is the best depiction of the character that we got. He isn't perfect and sometimes he needs help from others. People think that spider-man is this perfect guy who never needs help and can always do things on his own. I'm done with these raimitards.

“MCU Spider-Man has no Uncle Ben” Now, one of the most popular criticisms of the MCU Spider-Man is definitely Uncle Ben’s omitting from Peter’s stories. Some Spidey fans hate Homecoming and Far From Home because Uncle Ben is hardly ever mentioned. And admittedly, I can’t disagree. I mean, I would like some more Uncle Ben in his future stories. But the thing is, a lot of people wanna act like the MCU Spider-Man films are using Tony Stark/Iron Man as Uncle Ben’s replacement, but that’s honestly not very genuine at all. That’s such a dumb criticism. Just because Tony played a similar role in Peter’s life doesn’t mean they’re the same. In all actuality, the roles that Uncle Ben and Tony Stark played in Peter’s life are entirely different. It’s almost like there’s a stark contrast between the two (No pun intended). Okay, let’s be real here. Uncle Ben’s primary role in any given Spider-Man story is just simply being killed off. The death of Uncle Ben is simply a plot device. Uncle Ben’s death is the catalyst that helps Peter realize he’s been given a gift and that it’s his responsibility to use them to help people. The iconic line, “With great power comes great responsibility,” isn’t just great because it sounds cool or wise, but because it helps Peter realize that being a superhero is less of a choice and it more of an obligation. He didn’t heed his uncle’s advice, and he used his powers irresponsibly and very selfishly which ultimately led to Ben’s murder. That’s why Peter Parker’s character arc in Spider-Man 2 (2004) is so special. Because it presented us with the idea that maybe Peter CAN choose a life with not being a superhero. A life where he gets the girl of his dreams, one where his best friend doesn’t hate him, one where he can show up to college on time, and one where his boss doesn’t slander him. But in the third act of the movie, he realizes that his powers aren’t just his, his powers are a gift to be used for the good of mankind. Tony Stark is a mentor to Peter Parker in the MCU Spider-Man movies. And with that, it comes are a lot of criticisms that are definitely NOT valid! The role that Tony plays in these movies are totally different. He supplies Spider-Man with two new suits and that’s pretty much it. By the time Tony Stark meets Peter Parker, Peter has already learned the lesson about responsibility presumably from the death of his uncle six months prior. But admittedly, it’s never shown to us and that’s why I kinda agree with this point. It’s understandable that Marvel Studios didn’t wanna do a retread of Spider-Man’s origin story for the third time in 20 years, but I still think Uncle Ben should’ve played a much more substantial role in both of his movies. But then again, like I said, the role that Uncle Ben does play in Peter’s life is to always do the right thing even if it means sacrificing your wants and desires. And in Homecoming and Far From Home, we see that Peter is clearly living by this example, basically showing us what “With great power comes great responsibility” looks like in action. And plus, unlike the previous Spider-Man films, Spider-Man exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He exists in a world where a ton of other superheroes and other godlike beings already exist and Peter Parker is only a 14/15/16-year old kid trying to find his place in a world populated by people more powerful than he is. You may think it’s a shallow character motivation, but if you wanna sit here and pretend that you didn’t wanna be a superhero at 15, then go right ahead, liar. If you, as a teenager, existed in the same world where the Avengers, the X-Men, the F4, the GOTG, or any other superheroes exist, and then you casually woke up with superpowers after a fateful accident, you’d definitely become a superhero. Like, what else would you use your powers for? Sell real estate? Some of you might argue that Tony’s death did serve as a character motivation for Peter in Far From Home, which is kinda true, but it still isn’t the same as Uncle Ben. In Far From Home, Tony’s death is the catalyst not for Peter to do the right thing, but for Peter to learn that he already has what it takes to be Spider-Man in a world where there’s no more Avengers. Peter second-guesses himself at every turn, and he makes very devastating mistakes, but he ultimately learns that Tony was no better. An “Iron Boy Jr” argument goes hand in hand with this one because a lot of people would argue that it took two whole movies for Peter to get outta Tony Stark’s shadow. Both movies have been about Peter learning to become his own hero and not relying on Iron Man as a crutch. And those people are absolutely fucking clowns. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is definitely about Peter coming out of Tony’s shadow, yes, but there’s a huge difference in relying less on Iron Man as a crutch, and losing a best friend who inspired you to be the superhero you are today. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) sees Peter realizing that he’s one of the only heroes left to stop this world-ending threat and this time he doesn’t have anyone to rely on but himself. But rather than his character journey being about coming out of Iron Man’s shadow, it’s about Spider-Man trying to live up to these iconic superheroes that he’s put up on a pedestal only to realize that Iron Man, the Avengers and other superheroes in the world have flaws and imperfections as well. (Except Captain Marvel. She’s a flawless space girl. She’s horrible, don’t @ me!) It’s not the same thing and it seriously baffles me that in a cinematic universe that was initially sparked by Iron Man, people criticize these movies for just mentioning Iron Man. Like, Wtf??? Yeah sure, people would think it’s dumb that Peter Parker would ever see Tony as a mentor character since in the comics, Peter was a lot more independent and self reliant and if anything, he saw Tony Stark as an arrogant, dubious, unethical, narcissistic, self-destructive, megalomaniacal asshole. But the contexts are entirely different in the movies. In the MCU, Peter Parker is a teenager more so than in the previous Spidey films where in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy, Peter literally graduated high school 30 minutes into his first movie, and in the Amazing Spider-Man Duology where he’s supposedly portrayed like teenager, but he doesn’t act like a teenaged wallflower and he looks and acts like someone you’d see on Riverdale. Andrew Garfield was clearly too old for high school Spider-Man. But in the MCU, if you just so happened to be a 14/15/16 year old poor teenager living with your aunt or any parental figure in a basic, cheap looking apartment, you built your tech outta scraps that you found at the dumpster, you made your new super-suit outta whatever you can find in your bedroom, and then some crazy rich billionaire superhero shows up and offers you better suits and gadgets and gives you a chance to help out the motherfucking Avengers, then trust me, hombre, I think we both know better than the next man, that you’d definitely take it. I mean, it sounds like a very sweet deal to me, so why the hell not?

That's what makes Uncle Ben's death so powerful, Peter could've stopped the guy who shot him and he didn't. That's the entire reason he ultimately decides to become a superhero, because of his guilt. Tony dying could never possibly hit as hard for Peter as a character when compared to Uncle Ben's death.

With Spider-Man’s unique character arc within the MCU, it’s becoming more and more apparent how both those two films are heavily based on the early works of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in showing the different phases Peter has as he grew up In Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Peter was still a boy. He’s already been through the major life-changing turn of events earlier that year such as the radioactive spider bite that granted him superpowers, and the death of his uncle due to Peter’s selfishness that haunts the shit out of him to this day and ultimately drove him to the path of heroism due to the important lesson he learned. But this time around, after his scene-stealing appearance in Civil War where he met all of his favorite superheroes for the first time, we’re exploring the life of Peter Parker and his overall character. He's going around solving low level crimes, he's immature, impatient, childish, and relatively new to everything. His double life as Spider-Man isn't dramatic, it's therapeutic and it’s comedic. He keeps losing his backpack, he gets caught in his Spidey suit, his shenanigans lead him to getting detention, and had his tech suit taken away, which is equivalent to a parent taking away their kid’s phone. The world is constantly beating him to his knees and his sense of self worth as a superhero is based on the Avengers (mostly Tony Stark). It isn't until he's in the rubble that he starts to look inward calling on his strength as Spider-Man to save himself because he isn't defined by a fancy suit, he's defined by his actions. It’s where he truly becomes Spider-Man In Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Peter is starting to fully transition out of boyhood and becomes a young man. He has let go of his first crush and has moved onto a new love he finds in MJ, not because of how she looks or vague descriptions of her just being "the best", but because he likes who she is as a person. He is now in a world where the heroes are scattered as the Avengers appear to be disbanded after the 5 year gap and the events of Endgame. But he's still trying to hold onto a few things by looking for some other hero to look up to so he can have guidance. He has grown out of his desire to be in the big leagues because he's seen the kind of struggle that brings, and his self doubt makes him feel like he isn't up to the challenge. He isn’t quitting being Spider-Man out of fear, he is just trying to remain the rookie he was when Tony first recruited him because the times were much simpler back than (we've all had moments when we wish we could go back to being kids, less responsibilities, etc). It isn't until he learns Mysterio is a fraud and is given words of affirmation from Happy regarding the pedestal the world (Peter included) put Tony on, that he rises to the challenge and proves his capabilities not only to others, but to himself. Happy basically explains to Peter Parker that the superheroes that he idolizes (specifically Stark) have flaws and imperfections as well. Tony Stark was flawed, fallible, and struggles with self-doubt much like Peter. The whole point of “the next Iron Man” thing isn’t for Peter to literally become Iron Man, but they want to make Spider-Man as popular of a superhero as Iron Man once was. Kevin Fiege is building Spider-Man up to be the greatest superhero the MCU has ever seen. Spider-Man will create a legacy of his own that’ll eventually overshadow Captain America and Iron Man’s legacies. That’s what the whole movie is about. Iron Man was the face of the MCU, and now Spider-Man is the new face of the MCU. He wasn't alongside other heroes facing the drone army, he was on his own, he used his own intuition, and his own natural superpowers bested upon him from that fateful spider bite to defeat Mysterio and save the day, reigning absolutely victorious. From what we can see in this year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Peter's life is becoming more and more dramatic. The consequences he faces have gone from detention to being framed for murder. His double life is now becoming more conflicting as he tries to hang onto the few good things he's gotten (I have a feeling the end of the movie will have Strange complete the spell properly and the entire world forgets his identity, including his friends and Aunt May). He even starts to step away from saying "sir" because he is no longer the rookie. He has proven his worth and his place among the hero community, he is facing bigger enemies, and he is facing it alone (for the most part). There is a clear arc for MCU Peter as we watch him grow from a boy to a (Spider-) man. And it’s annoying as hell when people call him “Iron Boy Jr” just because Spidey wasn’t in his prime (physically and mentally) immediately after becoming Spider-Man. While I disagree with some changes they made with the character, I freaking love MCU Spider-Man. His character arc is just awesome to me. Marvel & Sony are actually taking their time to develop their Spider-Man into the Spider-Man we know and love. And depending on how No Way Home performs this Christmas, we can be assured that his fun hero adventures will continue in his possible second trilogy.

He's still a student trying to find his place in the world, he knows his responsabilities but he would really like to be just like everyone else and enjoy his age. Like, of course all the versions of him would like that, but with Tom you can clearly see that, you can imagine that because he's still young and I love this

In time people will start to appreciate this Spider-Man because I do feel it’s unfair for him because there were spidermen before him but None of them are as fleshed out as Tom Holland. I feel for Tom Holland it’s a process, he’s not supposed to be Spider-Man like right from the get go, all of his glory is supposed to come after high school. And I’m the end I feel like all the progress will put off in the end because the mcu is far from done with using Spider-Man.

I think the most annoying thing they say is you aren't a true Spiderman fan if you like this Spiderman. I saw him in cartoons, I loved the Raimi movies, Spiderverse was incredible, and Spiderman PS4 was a great game. Spiderman is a great character and one of the most important things is he is relatable. Andrew Garfield's wasn't really relatable especially in the 2nd movie. Tom's Spiderman was very relatable and will be relatable to even more people as the MCU goes on. This Spiderman will hopefully continue to grow up in the MCU. As he ages he will be relatable in new ways to new crowds.

I personally hate when people complain about how Watts' trilogy is bad because it is telling a different story then the Raimi trilogy did because in a way they are telling the same story, just in completely different ways. Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both origin stories but Spider-Man is the origin of how Peter gets his powers and becomes a superhero and Homecoming is the origin of how learns what it means to be a superhero. Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Far From Home are both about Peter living with the stress of being of being a superhero but Spider-Man 2 focuses more on his relationship with MJ and Far From Home focuses more on the idea of a legacy and how his emotional state is affected by the pressure that comes with being Iron Man's successor. Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: Homesick will both be about Peter rising from his lowest point but Spider-Man 3 is about him becoming egotistical and self-centre and presents Eddie Brock as the worst possible case scenario of what he could become if he doesn't change, Homesick will be about him on the run from the law after being framed for murder by Mysterio.

What I really love about MCU Spider-Man is how he fits into the MCU as a whole. Up until Homecoming, the MCU was largely very gritty and dark with the occasional snarky line from Tony Stark (who ends up coming off more as a huge jerk in Homecoming instead of funny, but I'll get to that in a second). The Iron Man movies are dark action movies, the Captain America ones definitely so, shoot, the first half of Civil War is about Tony and Steve disagreeing and splitting up, with Tony now stressing about trying hold the team together. But as soon as that moment of stress comes, it's followed up with uplifting rock music followed by "QUEENS" and shows this young, talented kid who swings around in a little hoodie and sweatpants helping his neighbors with whatever they need, stopping small-time criminals, helping old ladies cross the street, and all while acing his math and science tests and tinkering with electric circuit boards. Peter Parker/Spider-Man has always been a young, equally powerful superhero just doing in his own thing in the other figuratively larger superhero's world. Spider-Man is his own hero, not fully needing assistance from other heroes yes, but he's living in the Fantastic Four's world for example, not vice versa. This is why you can't judge Homecoming the same way as you can the Raimi movies and TASM movies, these guys are off in their own worlds as the sole superhero protecting the city. But Spider-Man has always had to share the spotlight with other heroes. Spidey really doesn't get help like that in Homecoming from Iron Man, ok yeah there's the ferry scene, but ultimately, it's SPIDER-MAN who saves those people, not Iron Man. Had Peter not webbed up the ship and held it together for those few precious seconds, Iron Man's little gadgets wouldn't have mattered, he would've gotten there too late. Which is why "No thanks to you", makes no sense and is more a reflection of Tony's wounded pride after having his tech broken into by a 15 year old kid and being outsmarted and outwitted. Also I love the lighter tone of Homecoming as while there's some great opportunities for growth in Spider-Man (2002) and TASM1, with Norman dying and Captain Stacy dying, the fact that basically no one dies in Homecoming shows a different side of Peter. The focus of Spider-Man in the MCU to me is to show what Spider-Man is all about. He's what a superhero should really be about. He obviously is powerful and has his moments to save the entire city and the world, but ultimately, he just wants to help others and bring joy to them at the same time. Every time we see Tom Holland's Peter with other Avengers, he constantly brings a smile/laugh to us in the moments when things start to get serious, which is what Spider-Man lives for. Back to Homecoming, the outcome is exactly what Peter would want, it's all about him showing that it's not the suit that makes the hero, the hero makes the suit, and he breaks free of Tony's control in the timeframe of the movie and he tries to fight Vulture in the only way Spider-Man knows how: to stop the villain and make sure no one gets hurt in the process, and I mean NO ONE. I mean Tony literally offers him a spot in the Avengers because of Peter's great responsibility as a solo hero. He beat the Vulture based on his strength alone. And for anyone saying MCU Spider-Man's villains are just Iron Man villains who happen to fight Spider-Man. First of all, I'm not sure what that means. In the "Amazing Spider-Man" comics, every villain doesn't know Peter or Spider-Man exists, they just happen to fight him because Spidey steps in the way of their plans. Yes, Adrian Toomes starts selling illegal weapons because a company owned by Tony Stark puts him out of business, but that would be the same thing as a company owned by Reed Richards or Oscorp puts him out of business. Ultimately, Toomes fights Spider-Man because Peter gets in his way. Mysterio I can't exactly say the same for but once again, Spidey is meant to always live in a larger hero's world, it's not his universe, so I think it's excusable for some villains he fights to be indirectly created by other heroes.

Uncle Ben I see where you're coming from, but we also already see the impacts of uncle Ben. "When you could stop the bad things, but don't..." That whole line is uncle Ben's influence. It's the great responsibility bit. Tony stark doesn't make Peter any more a hero, he just helps him along his journey which is definitely great and I love it, but it's a totally different dynamic than Uncle Ben. It's almost more a Gwen Stacy of it all. The part of being apart from suit to deserve it, it's a whole new beast of development for technology to show that even without great power, there is a responsibility to do good. Idk it's... I don't agree with your uncle be. Stuff but it's a good video and we'll structured, internally consistent, and anything I don't like is just opinion differences. Tom Holland is actually more comic book accurate as Spider-Man than both Maguire and Garfield to me. They make Peter Parker start off as high school freshman which is when the character becomes Spider-Man in the comics and his first love interest was Liz Allan who was in Homecoming. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man may have got some things right with character too but the organic web shooters were just a stupid idea.

The thing is that Tony is not his uncle Ben. When Peter met Tony, he already knew that he had a responsibility with the people. He even says that when you have that power and bad things happens, the fault is yours. So he already learned that lesson, maybe with Ben. Tony is his mentor and does not teach him how to be a hero, but instead he is kind of his support, giving him gadgets, and establishing a hero hierarchy, so that Peter doesn't have to deal with world issues but instead can focus on protecting his neighborhood and loved ones

Okay I'm going to be honest uncle Ben and Tony Stark are two different kinds of mentors. Tony mentorship is how to be a hero, Uncle Ben mentorship is how to be a better person. Uncle Ben is still Uncle Ben. I always thought Tony was putting him on a pedestal trying to make him the next big hero when he passes but at the end of the day Peter isn't earths mightiest hero he's just a guy trying to help the little man. That's my only problem with this essay. Uncle Ben is still a thing it's just he's been bottling up his pain similarly to how he did with far from home with Tony, the difference is Tony saved the universe so he's overly reminded about Tony and being the next big superhero. Ben was just the every man and his only true reminder is aunt May which he still probably hasn't had a talk about him with her yet.

@@DarthLuigi310 oh dude there's been four hints of Uncle Ben that I can name (although 1 is extremely subtle.) In Homecoming when Peter is telling Ned why Aunt May shouldn't know about his identity he says "after everything that's happened to her" which is hinting at the fact she lost her husband and the scene where he's getting ready for the dance (which is very subtle) we can only assume that the cologne and suit was Bens. And in far from home there is the obvious suitcase but also in the illusion scene you can see the warehouse with the Queens sign which is where he tracked out Uncle Ben's killer. I appreciate people who realize that fun doesn't mean bad and teenage Peter doesn't have to constantly suffer. Especially I love when people see that MCU helps Pete remain friendly neighborhood. The only thing that bugs me is that I still need Ben. Not looming over Spider-Man everyday, honestly I love Raimi's trilogy but I think they harmed larger Spidey mythos by putting so much emphasis on him. I need a mention that Tony's loss is the second time Peter experienced this, I need to address the briefcase and the what May had been through. I need it to be direct but brief. Ideally, give me one flashback to the times where Ben was, idk, helping May with charity work and explaining to kid Peter why that matters. That's it, no more. Comic Pete was able to move on with his life remembering Ben only on occasion, Spectacular show had a presence of Ben but Peter didn't scream 'I killed my uncle!' in the end of each episode and PS4 just used his photo in the intro, so it's okay for MCU Peter to keep on living without Ben, just show me a glimpse in what was before once and don't be afraid to address him by name

I grew up with the Raimi trilogy and yes, it is highly overrated but I still like it. But, as a kid I also read Spider-Man comics. The more comics I read the more I started realizing the inaccuracy of the Raimi trilogy. Yes every Spider-Man movie has some inaccurate things as well as accurate things as well. Through all of these years of reading comics, the most accurate adaption is the MCU Spider-Man. No Spidey movie is 100 percent accurate but the characters in the MCU, personality wise, goal wise and everything else, is showcased the best here. All Spider-Man movies have there fans and I believe that each Spider-Man is good. It is like the Joker in movies. I know I might get hate for this but we need to start loving and respecting things like this. Remember, not all fans are the same. There will always be good people and bad people. I really hope MCU Spider-Man and heck even The Amazing Spider-Man get more attention and have a louder community. The MCU fanbase for Spidey is probably the largest but boy are they quiet. "Oh boy yeah." In conclusion lets start making a difference and give other adaptions of Spidey to be just as loud as the Raimi Spider-Man. In my opinion Andrew Garfield was a terrible Peter Parker. Garfield came off as a pretentious, self centered, hipster jerk. Tobey Maguire on the other hand was a much more comic accurate Peter/Spiderman even though he was a bit too emotional at times. What can I say about Tom Holland other than he plays Peter/Spiderman with a lot of heart, kindness, and sincerity which I felt Andrew Garfield didn’t do at all. Even though the Raimi Spidey films hold a special place in my heart, I do think that Tom Holland just might be the best Spidey to date. I really hope Sony and Marvel continue to work together so that we can have Tom Holland play Spiderman for a very long time. It’s been way to long since we’ve seen an actual adult Peter Parker/ Spiderman. Some of my favorite Spidey stories from the comics are when Peter is fully grown and matured. Personally I’m very thankful that they didn’t rehash Spider-Man’s origin in the MCU films.

I hate people who bash on people like us because we like mcu spiderman, they bash on flaws in the movies, but also the ones they like have flaws as well, all 3 have flaws but that, to me, is what makes all iterations perfect and great to watch 🤙 although this spiderman is mentored by tony, we see him grow as a person and overall, a great hero/spiderman!

I just tell them why Raimis spiderman isnt that good like people say it is and give my valid reasons and stuff thats behind why I love toms spidey
