The “so much of research is done for the sake of research” comment is so underrated. As a first year med student the amount of my classmates doing inconsequential research is mind boggling to me!

Great and much needed info, thank you. Could I please get your input on something personal. Am kind of in a cross road at the moment in my specialty choices torn between GP and radiology. income and lifestyle are very very important to me especially later in life. I dont know any radiologist personally but One of the main reasons I am considering GP is that in the long run once consultant, you can take variety of paths to suit your life style, you can do part time as a consult, basically choose your hours which many hospital consultant contracts might not be able, also alot of locum work which is well compensated and readily available, and you can easily split your week between NHS and private work. So to summeraise, I wanted to ask: 1) is it easy for a consultant msk radiologist choose the hours they want to work in the nhs/easy to negotiate e.g 30hrs a week (less than 10PA). And how they want to work e.g can you do teleradiology for your nhs trust when ur oncall etc from home etc? 2) do you have to participate in oncall as consultant msk rad often? 3) is it easy to find locum / and or private work as msk radiologist, and if so is it well compensated like GP's.? Also related to this have you ever come across an msk radiologist setting up their own private practice (am very enterpeneoral minded lol) 4) finally is it possible to work for full time teleradiology private companies or is it only if and when they need you? I really look forward to your input. Thank you
