You had me sold when you said “Adobe” 😂 I am 100% confident that you will not only make a better software than adobe, that’s setting the bar pretty low but one of the best alternatives to LR thanks to your user based approach to designing the software. Keep up the good work. 🔥

Good luck. Would love a good LR replacement. FYI, the title should read "Why I'm Building a Lightroom Replacement - Part 1 - Cataloging." I do like the LR catalog view with certain changes (I turn on the filename and date the photo was shot) compared to just photos all touching like that screenshot you showed. It also helps keep the photos separate from each other which I feel is important (like space between photos in a gallery.) Super excited to see how this advances though. Aputure had some really good features, LR is so clunky and slow, I'd love a replacement.

I have tested RAW Power, Lr Mobile, ON1, Affinity and more... Slight difference in each BUT for me the ONLY thing I require is the BEST highlights and black recovery and noise reduction.... Catalogue not a requirement... And iPad only...

I would love to see JPG and Raw photos together, kinda like in Apple Photos app. It's so annoying to see duplicated photos. And then when you edit, you could choose which version to modify

Apple Photos (Mac version) gets a lot of things right tbh, it's one of my top references for a number of things

It would be great if I could group continuous shots. For example, in car photography I like to take several pictures of the same shot (because of the headlights etc.) and in the end I have 500 pictures but actually only 50 shots that I want to edit. That's why it would be cool if continuous shots were grouped together to be able to sort out only the best one.

This is the feature Aperture called "stacks" that I refer to in the video Basically if you have shots with a time gap less than X seconds, it would display them as an expandable group. This is a planned feature 🙂 I do need to think of a nicer way to implement picks cause Aperture didn't do it quite right imo, but yes, this feature is coming 🙌🏻

Soooo if so advanced WHY aren't you just developing in iOS and port to iPadOS... LR for iPad is stunning.. I travel FT and threw my laptop away years ago..🙏.. also test Capture One.. there thumbwheel is stunning 😮

I have a folder called "Competition 🚮" with about 20 apps, I tested everything I could find to see the good and the bad in every software The iPad version will happen eventually. I don't want to do the Adobe approach where they made Lightroom CC for the iPhone and then awkwardly upscaled it to iPad and desktop. Each platform offers its unique advantages and I want to make full use of those (e.g. Apple Pencil, every iPad photo editing app treats it as an afterthought)

I am a pro shooter in Australia. Weddings and commercial. I want fast. Super fast. Fast fast fast !!! I need my machine to keep up with me. I need to go through thousands of photos making initial selections and I only want to spend a fraction of a second on each. Flag the ones I want and then move to the next one where I do not want to wait to load !!!! The more time it takes to load I am wasting up to hours just on selections. Fast !!!! 😂 did I mention I need it fast.

Oh you're gonna love some of the performance things I'm doing 👌🏻😌 I'll talk more about it in the upcoming videos, but absolutely, "fast" is a core goal, Lightroom's loading has wasted probably days of my life at this point

The one thing that drives me nuts about Camera Raw and Lightroom is the fact you can’t correct for proper anamorphic de-squeeze. It’s STUPID ANNOYING.

You can't do a lot of very obvious things one would want to do and would take Adobe a day to implement 🫠
