UPDATE: I got sidelined with post covid this year, which has forced a break from YT, and haven't had a chance to create an update to this video. So here's the quick version: I'm loving XP! Since I was only using Kajabi for course hosting and already had other tools that I preferred for other aspects, I made the switch to XP solely for their course features and can't comment on every other feature. But we've seen a big uptick in member engagement, progress, and their use of the support available to them. We've also gotten lots of feedback from members on how much they love it as well. They are still releasing features and we don't use/need them all, but I am hoping the mobile app is done soon. That's my only "con" at this point. I hope to do a full update in the future. Thanks for your patience as I go through this slow recovery and conserve my limited bandwidth right now for clients and members right now!

Hi Tara! I wrote a long, unbiased, and thorough comment on Graham's YT page where he was reviewing your video about Kajabi, only to have him delete it because I said I agreed with everything you said in your video. I now realize and will not believe anything he says moving forward and will not be viewing any of his videos because I don't particularly care for people who only tell the good about a product and not the bad, especially when they are an affiliate. I know Graham is the highest earning affiliate with Kajabi and now I see why - it's basically all he talks about and promotes. He did a review of your video because he knows you are a reliable and credible source and your video would sway people who watch it away from Kajabi. Instead of simply refuting what you said with no proof, he should have shown viewers that Kajabi could do what you've shown it cannot do. Kajabi was once the leader when it came to hosting a course but not anymore due to its lack of design, development, and focus. I too stopped using Kajabi's email marketing, checkout pages, and pipelines because they are not useful, even if you are just starting out because you are very limited in what you can do. And their coaching platform is worthless, I wouldn't advise anyone to use it. I am now looking for a membership platform that will keep members engaged and moving forward. When Kajabi started the owners, Travis and Kenny, were more focused on customers and developing the platform. However, that started to change prior to Travis leaving, which was one of the reasons for the fallout and Travis leaving the company, which is why Kajabi's design and software development has suffered. Thanks for your unbiased and honest review of Kajabi!

Wow, really appreciate you showing your cards a bit in what you are using. REALLY looking forward to your review of XPERIENCIFY. My background is video production, I manage the website, Facebook page, and (admittedly not so expert) graphic design for my wife's beauty shop here in Kigali, Rwanda. My wife and I have been toying with the idea of moving towards more service/info/advice vs simply selling products (as she is always giving advice at the when customers buy products at the shop, as HOW you use the products is as important, if not more, than just the purchase). We've been realizing we need to step up our game (email marketing, tutorials, rewards programs, etc), though having 2 small kids, a full-time job (me) and a fuller-time business (her) some days just making it through is an accomplishment. But we need to work smarter on the business to grow it, and for our clients to get more out of it. Am inspired to see this content, thank you very much for taking the time to share!

Can't thank-you enough for this video. I've been happy with Kajabi for 7 years, but I've hit a wall on the learner experience side and started investigating other options. If not for this video, I'd never have known about Xperiencify. I have a question though: In Kajabi, I used it for all my pages -- landing pages, and even my home page. Are people doing this in Xperiencify? Or... at what point do you link people to your Xperiencify course?
@TaraWagner
@TaraWagner Жыл бұрын
Because I have a website of my own, I build all my pages on my own site and use XP the same way I used Kajabi - just for hosting the course. So clients get linked to XP when they've purchased a course. I haven't looked into all their features yet since I don't need them all, so I'm not sure if there's a way to do public facing landing pages or not.

@@TaraWagner thank-you… I finally decided against XP for *now* because as much as I love what they are doing, it’s missing too many things for me. However, your video still inspired (and convinced) me that I could step away from Kajabi. In the end, I realized my needs require more control over code, so I am going to accept the tradeoff of having to do a lot more work myself - using a non-course-specific platform - but in return I won’t keep bumping into walls. XP has the most learner-focused capability built-in, and I can imagine a year from now maybe the limits I’m talking about will be lifted as they build out their features. But for me it DOES matter to have my entire website in the same domain/server as the courses.

What's the one that let's you build your own on WP - Member Press maybe? There are a few others that let you self-host. They are usually a lot cheaper but a LOT more tech needed. Tara, thanks for the perspective. In these platforms with the monthly charges such as Kajabi and Xperiencify, what happens when you end a course. Do you have to keep paying forever for students to maintain access even if you decide to discontinue the course? I currently use a platform that charges a % of sales so this problem doesn't exist but looking to use a US platform for the US market
@TaraWagner
@TaraWagner Жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes with most platforms you pay monthly to keep your account and student access active. What MOST course creators do when they're ready to retire a course (or retire altogether) is notify course members multiple times over several months and give a way to download and keep content for life (for example, moving all content into a Google Drive, allowing students to download from the drive, then deleting the files at a set date). This helps you NOT lose your profit with systems that take a portion of sales as you start to scale.

Truthfully, I don't think there is any "one perfect platform" that fits for everyone. And all of them CAN work, even if imperfectly. My BEST advice would be to tell you to pick something "for now", even if it's not perfect, so you're not hung up on the decision for too long. Give yourself a deadline to research and then eenie-meenie-miney-mo the decision, knowing you can (and likely will) upgrade later. I think the biggest factor to consider is not so much your content (although that matters) but your AUDIENCE. What do they need, love, or find helpful? re: marketing your courses is a whooooole other topic that needs a courses (or 12 lol) of its own to cover, but I teach people how to boil it down to 3 options, based on your stage of business and abilities: connections (networking, referrals, getting in front of other audiences), content (building your own audience with search friendly content), and ads (usually comes only when you have the capital to invest). There are pros and cons to each and different things are right for different industries, stages of biz, etc. If you want you can scope out more about my approach on my site: xotara.us/training

After looking at their platform a bit, it appears that they have funnels, email marketing, etc. Why not do everything Xperiencify? Are they strong on the course experience, but weak in everything else? Is that why you're staying with two other platforms? Can you do a video on why and how you use all three platforms, how you integrate them? Hmm interesting take and concept! While I tend to agree that not everything is extremely customizable inside Kajabi --- I would argue that that level of customization is required for most course-based businesses. Xperfiency looks AMAZING! Thanks for sharing that. As for Active Campaign, the automations are beautiful but do keep an eye on email deliverability. I tried to migrate to them back in 2018 from Aweber and it was a nightmare. Half the open rates of Aweber. Their deliverability team tried to blame me and my "niche". I did a bunch of side by side email gateway tests to show them that they were full of it, and as soon as I switched back to Aweber all was well. Mind you, this was past the 60-day grace period many email providers say they need so that deliverablity migration can be dialed in. Yeah Aweber is rudimentary compared to AC in terms of automations, but if the Ferrari (beautiful automations) only goes 15 miles per hour with a janky engine (crap deliverablity), who cares about the fancy design and paint job. Keep an eye on it, and you'll notice immediately, and don't let them eff with you like they did me, if that happens. Cut my business in half, and caused major issues as I relied heavily on email for booking strategy sessions. Email deliverablity rate is a massive thing, and not often thought about because it's very backend.

You are so right, Tara! I really wanted to love Kajabi and bought the 3 months promo. I had even put Kajabi in my budget for 2023. But after playing with it for about 4 hours for my website, courses and email marketing, I decided NOT to use Kajabi. Took me a day to even be able to write about it, I was so upset. In a nutshell, this all-in-one platform may have been the best thing on the market 5 years ago, but not now. It simply does not allow for the kind of quick customization that we are used to today. For starters, anybody who uses Canva on a regular basis will be disappointed at having to save every change before seeing it on the screen. It is clunky like my first website builder... years ago. For the price (and all the advertising on youtube) of Kajabi, I was expecting much more. What a let down.

I will stay with my excellent providers for each part of my business and wait for all-in-ones to get better. Perhaps in a few years. But really, one has to wonder if the Kajabi evangelists on youtube really use it, or fake it for the affiliate money they get by promoting it! @TaraWagner
@TaraWagner Жыл бұрын
Just like most platforms, you pay for what is being used. If a person stops selling a course and you won't be using the platforms anymore, the way this is usually handled is to notify and allow members a 30 day window to go in and download all content (or put the content into something like a Google folder so they can download in one go) before the program gets retired. If your course just isn't making sales, then that's a marketing problem and needs to be tackled head on. You don't want to worry about having business expenses (they're inevitable)...you want to focus on what you need to do continuously to out-earn those expenses.

There's a basic rule in life and business - never put all your eggs in one basket. ANY 'all in one' system for anything ALWAYS has drawbacks AND presents an ever-present threat to a business- I.e. you're putting EVERYTHING in someone else's hands! Yes, I can see 'an' argument for an all-in-one, and that's ease of use for someone looking for simplicity. But that simplicity usually comes at a price - or rather, cost - down the line as you've experienced with embedding pixels etc. I'll take a look at Xperiencify (although I'm not convinced the gamification is right for my audience unless it can be fully customised). As for the 'rebuttle' video now posted by 'Graham' - words fail me! Credibility out the window in one go. Thanks for posting this video. Really appreciated.

Thanks for your support John! TBH - it all depends on how the gamification is used to be honest John. Our system is flexible enough to allow folks to do it in ways that their audience doesn't respond to. Aww welcome to MY fan club! LOL I hear you on the fanboy stuff. I'm a big believer in EVERYTHING having pros and cons, and being sure to share them honestly. Nothing is 100% perfect. (Even Xperiencify. They have kinks to work out.) So I CAN tell you anything i review, I'll always be honest about who's it good for AND who it's not!

We tried Xperiencify and it was a disaster. There's no way to access your billing to change anything or cancel trial. Your billing is housed on Stripe. You have to send a request to access your account. That link never comes to your email, so you have no idea what is being done. They want you to email them for everything... even to access your own billing center. Kind a shady, so beware. Once you enter your billing information, it's there forever.

Aww bummer, sorry you didn't have a great experience, like we have so far. What did you think of the platform?

I deeply regret using Xperiencify - actually one of the WORST platforms. I will be switching to Kajabi. Here are my biggest disappointments with the platform: 1. My customers complain that the platform is hard to navigate. 2. Basic things that would normally be done aren't done on this platform - terms of service SWITCHED OFF and not letting us know and NOT EMAILING CUSTOMERS RECEIPTS automatically. 3. Videos that customers upload are being LOST. 4. Sending emails with wrong info and then telling me I did the wrong thing when I did exactly what the email said. 5. Paid the $100 to learn how to gamify my course and still the majority of clients not completing it. So, it didn't solve the problem the platform said it would.

What a bummer! I'm sorry you've had this experience. Ours has been quite the opposite! I hope you find what works well for you!
