I just sold my x100v too. For the same reasons as you. I had the camera for almost two years and the times I took it out to shoot with isn’t really massive. Sure, everytime I picked it up I felt so much joy. But then again, I just took my xpro2 or xt3 with me because I wanted multiple focal lenghts. It was a good time to sell the camera anyway as I needed money for something else, and I got a couple hundred more from it now than I paid for. I might just get the camera again some day if I have extra money laying around and when these get cheaper on the used market again. But for now it just was too expensive to keep in the closet.

This exactly. I got the camera, tried it out for a few weeks, and settled the consumeristic voice in my head. I would love to pick one up again in the future when prices settle.

I traded in my X100 F for X100V when it was released in February 2020. I wanted the X100V for family photos and as a light weight alternative to my XT3 set up for hiking and cycling. I have used it extensively since February 2020 and will not give it up until Fuji brings out a significantly upgraded model. I have some difficulty understanding why this 3 year old camera has become so sought after in the last 6 months. I am also amazed about the number of KZfaqs comparing the X100V to the Leica Q2 which costs at least 3 to 4 times the X100V. I guess it really is as good as I believe it to be.

I got this camera when it first came out in 2020 before the hype and the price hike( $1300) I Love it, it makes me want to shoot. I have a feeling you're selling it before the prices come back down. Thats just a projection though, Im happy you got to experience for a while.

I think what's best about the camera is that it is a camera for photographers. I, like you, use Sony for my commercial work, but always fall back to my XE4 as my every day camera. The hype surrounding this camera has brought it into the non-professional photographer world which has done well for Fuji sales but maybe detracts from its actual usability. Can I take better photos with my Sony? Probably. It does a lot of the work for you. Do I have more fun with my Fuji... I'm thinking I do. Glad you had fun with it on vacation. It's the perfect travel camera. If you're looking for something in the digicam world that can offer film-like results, try out the original X10. I got one a few months ago and it comes with me everywhere. Subscribed!

On the subject of small factor point n shoot cameras that don’t cost the earth: I discovered the (little known) Lumix GX9 last fall. It is like a pared down G9 (which I currently own) in a Rangefinder style. It has image stabilisation, a tilting screen and EVF and can record 4k 30p and, best of all, I bought one New for £450 and then a lumix 20mm (40mm equivalent) for £180 new and a small Olympus 17mm (34mm equivalent) for £210 and that combo is still cheaper than a Ricoh GR3

@@colinthecameraguy I think that many ( at least in the Micro 4/3 world) know about this camera and the GX80 (85 in the US) and GX8. All great cameras. If you don't need the IBIS then the G100 (that everyone hated when it came out in 2020 and now rediscover) is also a very nice small camera. Shame that Panasonic decided to move from this type of photography cameras and focus more on heavy and bulky hybrid ones.

I think you did not need the X100V since the beginning. You had to have fun, during your vacation travel, with a good digicam. The X100V has a lot of amazing and unique features. An example, this camera has the leaf shutter and so you are able to use flash at any shutter speed. Some professional photographers use the X100V to do portraits and have always a fill light for face models in natural light environment. The X100V has tons and tons of flexibility, tweaks, and creative opportunities. I own this gem since 2020 and I would never sell my X100V and I thought so far before the actual hype.

If you want the film look without the hassle of editing, Fujifilm is the way to go. Either an older X100 series camera or - and this would be my pick - the X-E2 with a lens of choice (both the 23 and 35mm f2 are great, the 28mm 2.8 pancake is super compact and the kit lens (18-55) is a good allrounder with image stabilisation).

Have you use one? If not, then either buy one, borrow one or rent one. Then you might find out why they are so popular and sought after. I have one, and a GRIIIX and a Sony @7 III and I’d say the X100v is my favourite camera out of the three. I had thought about selling it to buy a Sony @7 IV but couldn’t persuade myself who so as I love the X100v so much, I couldn’t part with it. That’s why they are hard to find, or sell for funny money second hand… the trade in I was offered was almost the amount I paid for it when new.

Can second that. Had the X-E2 and sold it after I got my X100V last year (used and reasonably priced I might add) as I only used the 23mm f2 on the X-E2 anyways. While the X100V is the superior camera, not sure if it’s worth the premium it commands over the X-E2 with a lens (400-500€ compared to 1300-1600€). I’m really inclined to get another X-E2 and do more comparisons.

I’m a long time Fuji shooter having switched from my Nikon dslr wedding setup in 2016. I shot with XPro 2’s for weddings, I had an X70 for a long time and an x100t. In my opinion the recipes are over rated as you always end up tweaking the images and the settings don’t work if your going from different scenes. The inbuilt simulations work best - pick a colour one and a bnw one then run with them for consistency. As for x100v - I had a x100t for a few years and my wife bought me the v to replace in 2021. The recent hype and price mark up have had me thinking of cashing in and going for a griii Ricoh instead. It gets great images, is much smaller. The x100v is a great camera but is it worth the recent price tag - I don’t think so. Save your cash and consider alternatives till the price goes down.

I bought the x100t last year and resold it a few weeks ago. I found the camera excellent, I really liked it and I too almost always used it in automode instead of manual as on the reflex. I sold it because in the end I didn't use it a lot but for traveling it's great. Coming to the 100v I think the price is absolutely exaggerated. As for the film simulation, I had the same impression as you. There was a lot of hype about it but for me it was a disappointment. None of the presets satisfied me with minimal changes from each others. Not to mention that you are not shown the preview of the film change but you have to apply it every time and then go back without saving(at least on the x100t), very irritating. I also found myself importing photos into photoshop and simulating films directly there.

Good points - Fuji cameras and their unreliable connection to their phone apps are what annoys me the most; funnily enough my oldest Fuji (X-M1) which is almost 10 years old can more reliably send images to my phone than my more recent X-E3 which uses Bluetooth and wifi…go figure. The Sony Rx100 series will probably suit you better, as they punch well above their size and weight, and they are definitely pocketable - just have to make sure to have a few extra batteries on you, or a powerbank and a cable

Sold mine after one shoot. Need 28m. Bought the Leica Q2 since this should be the prefect camera for me. Sold that too. Now I use my iPhone👍. Obviously IQ nowhere near a proper camera but I get all the shots I want quickly.
