The first story sounds like something you'd find on "That Happened" story threads, people who'd want to shoot up a gaming store wouldn't dress up as Trump unless they wanted to make themselves obvious that they're going to be wanting people to look at them - and of course there's someone built like a pro wrestler to put the shits up this potential troublemaker, though normally that's how the storyteller portrays themselves. It just comes off as too ridiculous to have happened to me, but crazier stuff than this happens all the time, so what do I know.

Premeasuring is fully allowed and an important strategical tool. Also the 25mm base trick is a known thing at higher tables to get around the engagement rule. The engagement rule being if you were exactly 1.1" away from a wall, nothing can charge you besides a 25mm base because you cant be engaged outside the wall and they cant fit inside. Many tournaments eradicate this issue by letting models stand "inside" the wall when they charge so you cant magic box people out

FOR SECOND STORY GUY: I completely understand how prohibitive the tabletop models are. (Though since the custodes debacle I dunno if I’ll keep buying) but the only way I was able to get into it was setting aside thirty dollars a week to buy Warhammer stuff. I now have over $700 in stuff including some really good deals. Funny thing is that everyone I tell my hobby to is almost always a smoker or a drinker and they give me hell for it being expensive.

Regarding starting in the hobby on the cheap. There's a weekly magazine coming out soon called combat patrol. Its going to be featuring all the different factions. Look ahead on fauxhammer for which models come with which issue, then order your desired issues through a newsagents or forbidden planet(it'll cost significant p&p if delivered). Also keep Horus Heresy in mind for space marines and guard.

When I start a new army I normally buy a character and a box of infantry. Recently i got into AOS (Soulblight Gravelords) and I just bought a Necromancer and 20 Deathrattle skeletons. This gave me a feel for the army for about 60 quid and I now do want to play them. Its what I advised my brother and friends to do and it seems to work out most of the time.

You can get into Konflikt 47 for less than $150. And that includes everything you need to play except glue and paint. The starter sets even come with dice.

Premeasuring has been a part of the core game since it was brought about in, 6th or 7th edition. Some old models are straight up unfair (old metal terminators on 28mm bases the size of old old tactical marines, the old metal wraithguard which were similarly sized and based-I’d rebase those. I rebased my vespids to 32mm because I thought all t4 stuff should be on 32mm bases for quick visual identification)

Why doesn't someone turn Warhammer 40k into a PC game multiplayer online? That way you can just pay your points for your "virtual models". Even if you charged people $100 for the game title, that would be WAY cheaper than buying and painting up even the cheapest army! No way in Hell am I laying out $500 for a simple wargame.

Depending on when you have it I might fly over. I wanted to get your opinion on something for tournaments. I've always seen that a game of 40k is supposed to represent a tiny fraction of a massive war, so then I wonder why are the lists set. What if there was a sideboard? If you you had a 2k point game, what if you had 500 points extra on the side and between rounds you could adjust your list using only your sideboard. You get told, your fighting Tau next do you want to make any substitutions? You don't know their list, just the army. Is this too power gamey of an idea?

The last story with the tournament, honestly when it comes to proxies of models I wouldn't have allowed them if they weren't on the correct base size. I'd rather you play with the correct bases and paper standees just because of that exact issue of measuring distances for movement.

If I had the cash to spare I would like to attend a tournament. But as I'm only getting a few bits n pieces together as n when I can to get back into the hobby, but out of my time in having played in a local store & having met some of those guys that are petty enough to cheat, bit of a trouble maker, overly competitive etc would be a few of pet hates that put me off the hobby if their idea is to win at all costs while failing to take into account of spirit of the game & fair play.

40k is cheaper than ever before now. So long as you 3d print your own armies and making the exact models in GW and Forge World is easy especially with a special brush on liquid compound for scanning. If you can afford to buy GW warhammer 40k models you can afford a 3d printer as the printer is now cheaper than a standard 2000 point army now by default. Being lazy gets you ripped off at 6x the price. I'm not dumping stl files because I'm not interested in being sued by GW. Next topic. WH40k tournaments are trash you have to hobby to specific guidelines so it's free GW advertising and you have to deal with cry babies every single gd table who take rules far beyond what they need to be to the point where they hope their opponent just quits. And people who want a 40k game done fast should just stick with their own kind. Me and our other 63 players kick people like that to the curb so fast tell em never to come back so glad 40k finally belongs to the fans unless you are a GW player then have fun being a bill board.
