As a kid I never understood why Freddie Mercury's death was mourned so intensely at the time. I kept seeing and hearing people talk about it and didn't "get it." As an adult looking back at some of their performances and listening to more of their music I totally get it. A band that was the total package, Freddie oozing passion and charisma, getting crowds involved in the songs. Just incredible.

One of my favorite songs is their last one "The Show Must Go On." Brian was concerned about Freddie's health and whether or not he could hit the notes. Freddie's response and I quote (according to Brian): "When May presented the final demo to Mercury, he had doubts that Mercury would be physically capable of singing the song's highly demanding vocal line, due to the extent of his illness at the time. To May's surprise, when the time came to record the vocals, Mercury consumed a measure of vodka and said "I'll fucking do it, darling!" then proceeded to perform the vocal line"

Even the best bands simply run dry over time on their own. That being said he might have done a Travelling Wilburys style thing with others had he lived, just as poor Roy Orbison did shortly before his death when he made an insane burst in output before his health caught up to him.
@duogemstone
@duogemstone 2 жыл бұрын
@@mnomadvfx actually I don't think queen would have run dry, they where always playing and experimenting with different stuff. Queens biggest downfall was after Freddie died they just kinda fell back on the backlog and tried to replace Freddie while singing the same stuff. While you can't have Queen without Freddie I think they would've been able to do great things without him if the had just retired Queen and started a new band with a new singer doing new stuff with maybe just breaking out a old queen song on tour here and there but never shouldve been the draw after he died

"He's way better than the movie!" Honestly, they're ALL way better than the movie! Roger Taylor's a helluva drummer with a singing voice good enough to front in most bands; Brian May consistently wins in Best Rock Guitarist polls of both fans and musicians...AND he's an astrophysicist; and John Deacon plays the hell outta the bass, has written some of the most iconic bass lines in rock, and holds a First Class Honours Degree in Electronics, having built the Deacy Amp that Brian May used extensively to help create his unique, layered sounds. Freddie, himself, held a diploma in Graphic Art & Design from Ealing Art College and, in fact, created Queen's logo.

I think this song (and especially this performance) is the best way to introduce people to Queen. Even if you don´t like this kind of music, everyone has to appreciate the musicianship and Freddies qualities as one of the best frontmen of all time :)

I'm glad Brad is enjoying this. I think jumping straight into metal has been too much for him, easing him into the rock scene with more Classic Rock will help him be able to appreciate the music without being overwhelmed by the speed and volume. I would LOVE to see you guys react to the entire 'Queen: Live at Wembley' concert or their 'Live Aid' performance. Seeing a live song is cool, but to see the whole show is something else, the interactions between the band and the audience as well as the between songs shenanigans... Even if you were to break the reactions into multiple parts as long as y'all watch the show all at once.

Agree. I think they started off at the extreme end and misunderstood what rock was until they started to dip into the roots here with Classic Rock. It's simple, melodic, and the lyrics are clear. Classic Rock is where Brad and Lex meet.

“One Vision - LIVE from Wembley” is another great performance that shows the power and energy of Queen. It was their opening number for this tour and is said to be loosely based on MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech”.

You never knew what u were gonna get with Freddie which made him the legend he is still today. Nobody has come close to what he did as a performer. Nothing was ever planned or rehearsed he just did his thing. Everyone in the band knew and played their part to perfection. There has never been a band as talented and probably won't ever be. Thanx for the music and R I P Freddie!

This was my late mother's favorite song by this band. Queen is one of my favorite bands and has been for almost 20 years. I can tell you, in their 20 years as a band there is literally something for everyone. My parents grew up with two different musical interests (generation gap) but this band they agreed on. And I grew up with it too. They were constantly evolving in their sound and that was the point. Their last few albums have a different sound but are just as great. Their last release was "The Show Must Go On" and was recorded not long before Freddie died. His health was in decline and the song was a way for the band to process the inevitable.

Freddie was a passionate man always full of energy and emotions tthat he could convey to the audience like no one else. His powerful voice, singing and temperament filled the largest stadiums in the world. If you are interested in their rocky vibe you have to listen to I Want It All or the early Queen songs.

I think Brad's coming along nicely. He got Freddie, he picked up all of the right things, he's just trying to digest and make sense of what he's seeing and hearing and Queen can be a bit overwhelming in that there's always something cool happening. Somewhat like a 360 degree fireworks finale for the entirely of the song, you don't know where to look first.

Queen keeps you guessing, supplying surprises with songs that have very distinct vibes...but you will find there IS a Queen sound. The band hits their 50th anniversary this year - Check out their early 70s live concerts - Stone Cold Crazy at the Rainbow is still fresh AND entirely different. They were fearless in their pursuit and yes, with a theatrical flair.

I can't tell you how awesome it is to vicariously re-discover Queen through you two. One of the other songs you guys did, Bohemian Rhapsody, was one of the very first rock songs I heard as a young kid, and thought to myself "I have to have music in my life for the rest of my life". It was way back when Wayne's World 1 came out... I was very young but that's where I first heard this song, and I've been of a fan of Queen/Freddie ever since. Thanks guys.
