Golden. Admittedly I’ve only watched the show but there is something very genuine in the portrayal of the Hound and Theon

grrm is great at depicting complex, multi-layered, and quite broken characters, but he really outdid himself with sandor because, yes, we never see things through his eyes, yet he shapes so much of the narrative. sansa and arya both give us pricelesss insight into him as a person, and these insights are like night and day, but both hold some truth.

Since I never read the books, my judgement is based on what I've seen in the show: Sandor "The Hound" Clegane, I really like this character and the vital role he plays. Without him Sansa would be raped and murdered long before she returns to her home, Arya never would have seen her sister again, would never have survived until she can punish Little Finger for betraying her father and never would have killed the Night King. What made him my favourite character instantly was his act of bravery when he saved Ser Loras when the Mountain tried to kill him. My sympathy for this troubled, broken man who is more of a true knight than all so called knights is unbroken to this very day.

Yes, a great scene 👍🏻 He also very elegantly ends the fight when King Robert shouts out, while the mountain acts like a nasty child that is too strong and brutal to be controlled

He is digging graves on the Quiet Isle and I can't wait to see what George does with this character. His story isn't over yet and I can't wait to see how he handles the violence and devastation that is inevitably coming to the Isle. Will he pick up the sword again? Will Elder Brother be his support in forging a more healthy path forward? I think he will use the sword again but will he still enjoy the act of killing or will he fight for something greater than just himself and become a warrior for the dawn at the Wall? I kinda want to see him meet back up with the Brotherhood and Thoros like in the show but he will see how far they've fallen since they last met in the books.

Lovely :-) I'm a (personality) psychologist, too, and binged lore videos recently. I missed a psychological perspective, because I think it's the characters more than the plot (not necessarily much, but usually a bit more) that make a lasting impression when you read or watched a great piece of fiction. He's an impressive character on the show for having to stand completely on his own, his nihilistic attitude does not make him friends, but also masks his vulnerability - constant anger is something distressing and depleting, nothing that makes you stronger - and his bitter disappointment about being deprived of being accepted as a normal human being. Judgemental and narrow-minded people are toxic for an individual who was traumatised, the stigma can cause more pain than the immediate symptoms. Say, are you also interested in analysing Lord of the Rings characters?

Thank you! It's great to get some feedback from a fellow psychologist! :) I'd say it's the interplay between the characters and the plot that must work, as in the end it's thanks to the circumstances that the characters find themselves in that the character's individual traits are played out and shaped in return. The Hound is very interesting also because of him being so close to the actual non-fictional human being without any exaggerations or fantastical elements, but with all that's harsh and naturalistic combined with the noble that struggles to survive despite the tragedy. Great suggestion, I love Lord of the Rings! It's certainly a literary masterpiece with many characters worth analysing!

If only half of what a you are suggesting here is true then GRRM is even more genius than I thought. E.G. the Cerberus comparison. I am currently re-reading ASOIF and the sheer amount of characters, how they are intertwined and the build up for later events is so complex and thought out that I am in awe over and over again, how one person can come up with such dexterous and in depth world building. I really wish the series will be finished in his lifetime. May I ask, can someone recommend a similar work like ASOIF? Preferably in a medieval fantasy world with magic or a science fiction scenario. However, as long as it is comparable to GRRM work I dig everything :) Thank you for the effort with the video.

Too much emphasis on Sansa.... who in reality is just a fleeting desire to him, he learned far more about himself from Arya who he saw was quite like him ... this caused him to think long and hard about what his life had become.... he saw that Arya was vulnerable and didn't want to see her come to harm. The hound redeems himself through Arya and while she might not admit it she was the safest she ever was from the time she left kings landing while she was with him. He developed a sense of purpose with Arya, he became a teacher and protector and as time went on you could see developed an affection of sorts for her and even confided in her about what happened to him. She also softened towards him in spite of herself. She saw another side of him that she really didn't fully understand until he implored her to turn back from trying to kill Cersei. It was then that they found peace with each other.... had the hound not died I imagine both of them coming together as some kind of duo... not a romantic one but one of trust and partnership.

Interesting take on the hound. For some of your analyses, you have no basis for though, and it also seems like you're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, it's not going to fit no matter how hard you try. For instance, you say that Arya and the Hound are basically the same person. How? 🤔 Because they both want revenge for something done to them. This seems like an obvious generalization to fit your own story and dialog. You could also say the same thing for Sansa.
