This is a beautiful and deeply touching documentary. I've always loved belugas and to see humans working together to save the baby beluga was heartwarming. It is distressing to know that we have caused cancers and birth defects in these magnificent, intelligent creatures, And the deaths of the belugas in 2012 were distressing. I love that belugas will often adopt infants who have lost their own moms. I hope that we are not too late to save such wonderful animals. ❤❤❤🐳🐳🐳

I am currently in my final years of High School. I have always known it was my dream to work in nature alongside plants and animals, and it is my goal to study to Biology. To work alongside with these gorgeous creatures would be a dream come true and I hope that one day I may be able to do what these amazing scientists are doing, whether it be for the beluga whales or another species. All creatures are beautiful and my life goal and dream is to help them and study them.

A great mini-documentary on the Belugas of the St. Lawrence river. Great to see people having empathy for a species of mammal that is certainly intelligent, social, and feels. In some ways like us. Sadly, they are now warning us that we have pumped way too much CO2 into the atmosphere. Not very long ago scientists published numerous papers indicating a mass extinction event is looming in our children's or grandchildren's future. I pray we can prevent that from becoming a reality. Cetaceans are so important, fascinating and emotionally engaging. Many toothed whale (odontoceti) species like belugas, dolphin species, orcas, sperm whales; are on another level beyond other intelligent, empathic animals and more towards humans.

As an artist and empath, this documentary brought tears and sadness. I have heard of Belugas but just recently became so obsessed with them, along with other whales. I plan on painting them in the future to perhaps bring awareness to their plight. I wish I had the means to do more to help.

What utterly wonderful creatures! When you see how belugas and other whales live their lives, their profound empathy and need for company, it's truly a powerful argument for recognising them not as "animals" but as "fellow animals" and non-human people. It makes it all the more horrific and tragic that belugas are still killed for food in the arctic and it's time we stopped being so precious about protecting the rights of indigenous humans to slaughter beings that are emotionally and intellectually so similar to us.

Whenever I see Beluga they are either helping us someway or cuddling and our ancestors used to kill them while looking at their innocent smiley face. Whenever old people say things like "in the old days people were kind" and other bs like that let them know they were anything but kind and that we are trying to undo their evil deeds. 38:40 the motherly women made me tear up too.

Killing Belugas, any other type of whale or porpoise, is tantamount to murder. There are certain things you have to draw a line under. Certain mammals that are so sentient, they’re only limited by their environment.

Every single living organism has a place on this planet, they all part of the ecosystem, they all play an important roll and never will destroy mother nature just for pleasure or ambition … all … except humans…

They’re SO BEAUTIFUL, incredibly intelligent & majestic… 💜💜 I dream to see one in its natural habitat someday 💜💜

That was a wonderful documentary. There are so many species being lost here in Australia where I live that it's just heartbreaking. Right now an oil company is going to begin explosions in the waters off Western Australia where the incredible whale sharks live and reproduce. They are such giant animals which are so friendly with humans that we can just use a snorkel, or good breath control if we have it, to swim up to them and touch them. The explosions and drilling in such a sensitive area is just criminal both by the company and the government which has allowed this development to go ahead (there is a campaign to stop it but all approvals are given). The loss of other terrestrial animals is equally tragic. Koalas are now endangered because of the worst bushfires in our history in 2019, and before that, the loss of koala habitat had already rendered them endangered. It has been estimated by scientists that *3 billion* animals (mammals, monotremes, birds, reptiles) succumbed in the fires of the eastern forests of Australia in 2019. After a decades long struggle to stop Japan and Norway from killing whales in Antarctica, Japan still kills minke whales "for cultural reasons". Meanwhile, Japan has several hundreds of years worth of stored whale meat which the majority of people in Japan don't wish to eat anymore. We succeeded in saving humpback whales and other large whales in Antarctic waters. On the eastern Australian coast we are now familiar with the whales which migrate north to reproduce in the waters of southern Queensland. In Sydney we have viewing spots on cliffs and headlands where we gather every year to watch and even identify individual whales during the migration. Boats are limited in the distance they can be for whale watching, which we do all the way up the eastern coast to southern Queensland. Sometimes whales will enter Sydney Harbour or beach bays like Bondi Beach to frolic with their calves on their return migration to Antarctic waters. These are victories. The good and the bad of human activity tells its story, just as the belugas have in this documentary. We really must apply ourselves to understanding and acting on the many, many stories, and above all, the evidence, which tells what we should do.

when I was a little boy I remember going to the Minnesota zoo & seeing Beluga whales, how amazing they are, how they look like they're smiling, their smooth white skin, they're literally magical. anyways, I had a speech impediment when I was little & I was told I would say "we go bayuga bayuga walls!" & I would squeel with glee.
