Each year, hundreds of critically endangered manatees are killed in U.S. waters by boats, disease and cold weather. With only a few thousand remaining in the wild, the clock is ticking in efforts to save this amazing mammal from extinction.

Manatees are adorable animals that are very human friendly. We have them off the coast of Puerto Rico and they don't have a natural predator. Only the man, who with the use of boats and jetski hits and kills them. It's sad. That is why in Puerto Rico we are protecting the species by creating awareness and guiding boat owners. The marine biologists from the Colegio de Mayagüez also have a program to protect these beautiful animals. They nurse the babies by bottle until they are sufficiently prepared to return to their habitat. I love manatees.

On 2/1/24 while on a 6 a.m. tour in Kings Bay, I was caught up in a breeding herd as I was passively floating in the bay. Thank You SeaDaddy Adventures for the memory of a lifetime.

It's very sad that people are so selfish and entitled that they believe their right to enjoy their boat trumps the lives of manatees and dugongs.

It is our sworn duty to protect endangered species from extinction including west Indian manatees and dugongs and preserve their habitats and preventing these animals from not being driven towards the brink of extinction I should say that we all should stand up for these animals and their natural habitats for generations of manatees,dugongs and other endangered species to come on planet earth

Jordan Apgar check put face book Free The Oklawaha. Simply put the Silver River flows into the Oklawaha flows into the Rodman Reservoir. The Rodman Dam, part of the defunk Cross FLorida Barge Canal, hiders/stops the flow including the 21+ hidden springs. Of course this effects the marine life from the St Johns River in Northeast Florida near Jacksonville.

@BWoodPhotography I was thinking the exact same thing. As far as people asking how else could we get the information about them to help preserve them- well, as calm as they are around us in the water I'm sure we could get a majority of that information while swimming along with them. They can tag sharks and take blood and tissue samples from them from boats as the shark is swimming by, I don't see why they couldn't use similar techniques.

Why exactly would exo-tourists be considered an "unlikely" advocate for the preservation of manatees and dugongs? 🤔 Seems like a perfectly LIKELY group of people to be advocates for manatees and dugongs.
