I was born and raised in LA, these police chases happen all the time I remember coming home from school watching the news, when we didn't have cable, and there was always a chase going on. It's like watching a sport for us, sometimes you see the helicopters or hear the cop car sirens outside while watching the same pursuit on TV. the most memorable one for me would be from 2012 when someone robbed a bank, drove to the hood and were throwing the money out the car while all the people living nearby were grabbing it.

As someone who lives near LA, this is something that’s actually common. Ever since I was a kid there had been police pursuits non stop on tv. Everyone always seems to enjoy it cause it’s like real life gta lol. These must be getting more coverage outside of California or something

I was watching this live last night and wondering if you were gonna cover it. Slow chases are so common in L.A.. One time there was a chase so slow that people started driving out to the scene holding signs, cheering on the guy who was running from the cops. It was hilarious. And the commentary was even more hilarious

I was watching Will Neff cover this chase live when it happened (crime watch baybeeee!) and oh my god it was incredible. That man did NOT wanna give up. After we saw he was doing whippets and driving on bare tires, I knew he wasn’t going down easy. Glad no one was hurt, these are scary sometimes. Especially the ones that drive crazy fast. The theory here is that slower is safer for everyone, and the police are trying to patiently wait until the suspect realizes there's no escape instead of risk him gunning it and crashing into someone at 100+MPH. And also, reducing the spectacle removes the incentive for attention-seekers to "go out with a bang".

That's so interesting that Charlie mentioned a wounded animal because this chase suddenly seems very similar to how people have hunted big game for thousands of years. This is just a new iteration of it.
