Legitimately can not believe that anyone would be more worried about Hybe than Kakao. Kakao has an actual monopoly, with executives actively being arrested for corruption and illegal business practices every other month. They own streaming platforms, networks, music labels, and that's only a tiny fraction of it because Kakao is a conglomerate with branches in many different industries - they even have multiple CEOs because of the size and range of industries they operate in. I read the other day that Kakao is being accused of (illegally) forcing korean labels not affiliated with them in to unfair streaming contracts. That is what a company with a monopoly does. Back then when Hybe let go the shares to Kakao (which LSM sold to Hybe earlier on), it seems Hybe didnt let go all of it. Smart (read it as sneaky) business decision. One of the reason until now Kakao is still not the majority shareholders, making it difficult for Kakao to make changes internally. Unless they get help from Hybe to be hand in hand to get votes as majority. Thats why i said sneaky Hybe. In directly they "can hold Kakao by their throat". Not to mention how Kakao and SM execs are literally fighting behind the walls of SM so much so that the courts appointed a Yoon official to mediate the situation. Kakao is in there stealing music away from SM to give to Kakao Ent. That was part of the entire purpose of the purchase, not to mention to gain rights over SM idols to make webtoons and other art media. Now Kakao is pushing the US market with IU who had to cling to BTS to even get her name in the papers in the US. Some reality of the situation comes up finally at 5:54. How many people listen past the 3-minute mark? Do better. Kakao pins their best revenue performance on IU who again is doing collabs with BTS/HYBE. The majority of top performers in kpop come from HYBE. It's the only reason IU has a blip in the West as a singer. If you just do “what’s popular (looking at you hybe)” than there’s no push forward. Look back at how SM’s experimental sound became the norm over the past 20+ years… you need diversity to grow. Most important thing: dynamic pricing. Hybe uses it. Ain’t none of yall gonna be able to afford tickets if hybe takes over the industry. Nosebleed for enhypen we’re running at like 500 bucks a seat. @xonewakimx2 ай бұрын
Yeah, BUT (a big but) even though Hybe has an immense quantity of resources it's a dirty play by Hybe as SM did with Woollim Ent. When was acquired in the early 2010 years (I don't remember the year exactly), What Hybe want's to do it's to make shade to SM just to focus on their own company (As SM did with Infinite when they were in Woollim). Lee SooMan it's guilty of this situation but also the SM stockholders, because instead of dialogue with SooMan and make a pacific negotiation (and don't tell me that they couldn't, when you are on business you have to know how to negotiate) and then proceed to any action. But what stakeholders and the CEO of SM did (Yeah Lee SooMan it's not the CEO) were "making" actions and selling them to grab more stockholders underwater, without telling to SooMan, and devaluating his actions. So, SooMan (in revenge) made that sale of his actions to HYBE. That's the reason of the anger, Although that was Lee SooMan the one that was selling his actions, Hybe didn't check the reasons (and I remember that Hybe also prolly could get theirselves in trouble by the way they bought the actions) But speaking about Image, sound, and concepts. The people are angry because most of the sounds of Hybe labels are feeling pretty similar (or the same) and they are relying in their popularity instead of giving opportunity to their artists to shine. I dunno if I explained well. And if I have a mistake, please forgive me, Imma lil bit rusty on English, it's not my first language. Greetings!

Yea, I'm a fan since then. Before that I used to like SNSD. So, back to the point, I won't support it. HYBE is trying to make Kpop like pop music. And it's not good. FIRST off, SM is no longer the same. since lee sooman was kicked out by his nephew, the senior producers who were instrumental in creating SM's music also left. SECOND, if you have been following the financial news, when kakao became the biggest shareholder of SM, they also eventually kicked out lee sooman's nephew and his management team. since then, SM management is now a team beholden to kakao. THIRD, korean press has reported that kakao is exploring selling SM, hence hybe's move to acquire lee sooman's remaining shares. FOURTH, SM artists are leaving their agency. in the past few months, 10 artists have left -- these includes sunny, three from super junior, four from exo, two from shinee. imagine losing your best solo artists: onew, taemin, baekhyun, and d.o. this only means SM artists are no longer happy with the agency. FIFTH, whatever you say about hybe, you cannot argue with success. from a struggling company, it has grown into the biggest kpop agency in terms of shareholder value and income -- in fact, bigger than SM, JYP, and YG combined. hybe has the biggest kpop groups in its portfolio: bts, seventeen, txt, enhypen, new jeans, le sserafim, fromis_9, &team, boynextdoor, and a host of solo artists. haters will continue to hate, but many kpop artists have revealed in many interviews that they would love to have hybe as their agency if they could. hybe is well-known to give what is the best possible artists' contracts in kpop, with many extra benefits as well.
@aligensa2 ай бұрын
1) You can argue with success, because sadly, popular success often has little to do with quality, and most of the acts you mentioned were just bought and not even created and nurtured by HYBE. 2) If Kakao will sell its shares of SM, then Hybe is likely to buy as many of those as it can, and that is cause for concern both in general because monopollisation is always bad, esp in an industry that requires creativity by definition, and in this case in particular because Hybe's strategy to take the "k out of k pop" is literally about sameness. 3) The artists who left only left for their solo work, SM still has all of their groups.

First Kookielit gloats over idols leaving companies and other troubles some of the big four are having, now she makes hay out of HYBE becoming too dominant. What ever feeds outrage and produces clicks! That said, oligopolies are the norm in the media landscape because it takes a minimum size to be viable, but monopolies are not, so ANY increased influence of ONE company is bad no matter which. And the fact that this is the company that announced that they want to "take the k out of kpop" and we've already seen what that looks like is also bad for the industry - not only in terms of quality, but I don't even think that it will work commercially.

4:40 I don’t know how valid a concern this specific example is. New Jeans came out so strong with a unique sound (strong Y2K vibes with innocent and more uniform looks) that even established groups started being inspired by the concept. So many songs released in that time have a new jeans-esque element, to capitalize on a very successful and lucrative trend. Think auto-tune the mi 2010s. And all the dance breaks. Retro is in right now, I think that’s just being trendy. Now, idol contracts, publicity, brand endorsements before even debuting, exclusive producers and choreographers, these particular practices by Hybe are wild. Debut groups with high fashion pictorials and spots western social events?!? How could smaller companies ever compete 😢

I understand the points that are raised about the matter but honestly I don’t believe HYBE is interested in having SM lose its own colour as they know that would not go down well nor would it make any business sense. They know their own distinctive style and music has made them successful all these years and to suddenly have them change would be a mistake. This of course would only apply should Hybe eventually take over SM. As a matter of fact I believe Hybe would push the company forward into the western market and the connections it has. There is a deep respect for this veteran company and to have it lost to the Chinese would be a disaster. Most Koreans do not want this company to be completely taken over by the Chinese and if that means Kakao selling SM to Hybe may it be so. Anyways it is all speculation etc and I suppose everyone will have their different views and opinions

I understand the situation as I’m a business student myself. Companies have their own diversity and creativity. This is just business at the end of the day. Why is the concern with HYBE taking over and sounding the same concepts? But YG doesn’t get the same criticism? With Blackpink and Baby monster. HYBE acquiring small labels helped with more promotions and exposure for those groups. Pledis was getting huge criticism of not enough promotions for Seventeen prior HYBE. HYBE also promotes the idea of having their idols develop as composers and producers and give their idols creative room to work with. Big example, BTS. Bang allows them to grow as artist hence why they tested different sounds. Heesung from Enhypen has been helping the members with recording for Dark blood and Orange blood. A lot the groups under HYBE are still young and still growing as artists. Another fun fact the ceo of Ador was once with SM. You can tell by the r&b sound in new jeans songs and the solo album she helped V with
