I think one big hurdle and reason why people quit is that there are sooooo many different items. It's hard to find out exactly what armor you should be wearing, or what item you should utilize to be efficient. You'll do an activity for hours or days, then find out if you just had this one item it would've made that activity 100x easier.

Runescape is supppppper P2P. Theres no content exciting enough for a F2P player to earn any means of a living. Bossing is limited. Once you find out most of the game is locked behind a paid wall at a low level you have to determine if this game is worth spending irl cash or grinding a lot to meet certain money requirements to obtain a bond via ingame currency. That time you put in has to be a daily requirement or a few days of heavy grinding esp since bonds as is are are mid 60mil for only two weeks. Can anyone afford to be so grindy? Within that two weeks you have to have the means to 1. Rebuy your next bond 2. Pay for your supplies (food / pots) 3. Pay for gear repairs/buy gear upgrades 4. Level up to meet gear requirements 5. Questing to unlock content. You'll find questing to take some $ if you dont meet requirements and take time away from the grind that would otherwise go for paying for your bond/gear repairs or upgrades. Now would wana have to choose between playing a game like its a job vs playing a game that doesnt sustain entertainment once you start hitting mid 40s/50s combat stylee. Watch gona do? Do mole rate and KBD? Most of the valued worthy drops are members anyways. Let me not get started on Invention being a money sink for "better quality of life" bossing. Cant forget the tier 90+ upgrades if you made it pass that grind. Good luck squeezing a few hundred mil/Bil while paying off 60Mil + supplies/repairs every 2weeks. Wana do mid lv/high end bossing dont forget you gota drop a lot of $ for 96prayer and 96herb for overloads/soulsplit. But oh wait you gota quest for soulsplit: so make sure you get those levels done too? Dont have the means to get them levels? Be prepair to pay for them via gold. Its sad really

they shld make boss like telos aimed at t50s with enrage that scales to endagame that would motivate ppl by giving them a boss and having them push enrage as it would motivate them to train to get it higher

Problem of having content being targetted at new players is the older players being left out. Sure it might make sense on paper but I can assure you people will end up at Falador park if they see content not meant for veterans

Sorta just stumbled on this video and you're right on a ton of things. I'm new to rs3, coming from osrs and what gets me irritated is actually the amount of stuff thats thrown at your from the get go. I understand theres a lot to do in the game but even just the UI is really overwhelming and not at all new player friendly. I'm playing on the New Start servers and what sucks is seeing everyone get maxed combat day one and ignoring new players asking for help. A lot of players didn't realize the idea behind these new servers is to bring in new players.

i quit osrs after getting barrows gloves as it took me hundreds of hours for a pair of gloves...

My issue is the tick rate. Like you literally need 2 seconds for a click to register. Makes it feel so slow and unpolished. This also makes the abilities and overall combat really bad. Go and play world of warcraft or FFXIV and then come back to RS3. You won't be abe to play because the tick rate will piss you off. I can't even imagine how horrible bossing is with such a horrible tick rate. Imagine trying to dodge mechanics with your clicks taking 2 seconds to register. BLAA

I've been playing a couple of months, brand new to it in 2023. I'm mostly around 60 in most stuff on average, but there's literally nothing on YT or much on the wiki that's practically useful for a new player. I'm probs a month or 2 away from getting any decent, actionable information about progression. In a nutshell, you need to play for 3 to 6 months blind before you can get info without serious digging, Maybe it's just because it's an old game and people forget how much time it takes to get, I dunno. I like the game, but the community stuff does little for newbies

Disagree, alot of pvm became very toxic as soon as one has less than others and only best in slot items as minimum requirements, even worse start dropping dps dummy checker and expect all players to have 500k dpm, any less they call you a leech

I don't see how the fresh start servers are for new player realistically. Maybe OSRS players migrating, but that's not really a NEW new player. Runescape is just a game where is doesn't matter for a truly fresh player where everyone else is. At least in Osrs ( I don't play Rs3), multiplayer content is populated as long as genuinely useful items are obtained there, and the same content would be populated on a fresh server. If anything, a fresh server would just skew a genuinely new player's knowledge of the live economy they will inevitably end up in.

A major problem with the new player experience is there is no good information that a new player can use for their early experience, all the guides on the wiki are basic, you cant really follow someones gameplay on youtube because all the RS3 content creators are doing their thing at max level, all the RS3 discords have guides that basically require you to have 99s, In game max level players are all congregated in their max guild, priff etc so you cant learn organically in game, if you ask people just ignore you. When you complain to people about the new player experience their responses pretty much sum up to why dont you just have the 99? Rs3 is a game with the majority of the population at max level, im guessing its a result of all the free XP thats shoved at you from MTX, Double xp weekends etc, the effect of this however is that for a new player thats joining and doesnt know anything about the game, they dont have a community that they can learn with. The entire mentality of this game is rush to max as soon as possible then learn how to play the game, while its supposed to be learn how to play as you max. Its just sad.

Efficiency is the problem... You can't expect to have fun if the only thing you're doing is the most efficient way for any part of the game.

People don't start their characters with the right intentions. When I started I had the intention to make Volcomsteve a powerful character. Now he is. But it took a long long long time and a lot of work with the community of runescape.

Something that kinda fixed thing for me is playing another game then rs3 and mixing between both of them

i would like to see a clue scroll tutorial ingame. Imagine u dont know what alt 1 is or about guides online and u see a poorly drown map with an x, you spend 8 hours looking for it and then give up never to do one again, maybe even burn yourself out of the game. I know there is a quest for this, but i feel like it should be earlier on when ur killing goblins since you can obtain a clue there. It would give a sense of treasure seeking to new players who dont wanna click a npc for 6000 hours to level up xd

Nice video. I can agree with all of this, I have just come back to the game but I don’t know what’s going on. It’s way too much content to take on board with no clear guidance on what is most important to learn or do. I feel like they shouldn’t make all abilities etc available to new players straight away because it’s just overwhelming.

The game is not very mobile friendly. I mean you can get to 99 on mobile and it's easy to use, but if you want to do bossing, forget about it. Very limited space to have enough buttons to do everything. Also the quick slots gets covered by your inventory and the chat. So you get one or the other at any time.

They should call it Grindscape

To me wouldn't make sense to not have a pay wall. It's a new account in a new game mode. Completely separate from the main game.

The grind is too long no one likes killing 1 million goblins u get the idea even at top end like it’s harder to progress at end game especially drop rates are fucked… games low key trash at times it’s so boring I haven’t had any progress in months, I’m playing my alts getting them into priff and buying them best in slot like taggad core hammer and gote LOTD kit It’s so boring honestly this game is dying bad Especially it’s hard to bring new players and there’s a ocean of info to learn and there’s not any good bosses for players to do with new people Literally giant mole and kbd is the craziest boss you can do at lowest lvl and those are dead ass boring

If you want to be high level real life you gonna need to buy some bonds and primer club with real money

I too thought getting to high level will then make it fun. Tired all 3 combat styles, got them up to 90. Quit for a few months and now I've no clue as to what gear to use and so I'm just sticking with elder rune. Also kinda gave up on many skills after reaching 70 or 80. Shouldn't have grinded herb, I'm almost broke now and currently on arch and want to give up on this slow ass shit. Need 67 invention for auto screener, but that's even more difficult. Basically been spending to up all sorts of skills and almost out of gp. They say bossing is good money, but on mobile that's near impossible.

I’m not sure I totally agree with the getting part because osrs is wildly successful and the grind is much longer. The difference is osrs is very consistent throughout even the lower levels. This makes quests and other parts of the game very worth doing, which is not the case in rs3 where you’re pretty much just waiting for everything at the end or just using mtx to skip early levels

I have to disagree that fsw is good they already rollbacked the servers and now there's a bug with the servers classic jagex for you. Low level content also sucks and the interface is very confusing imo, so i can't really see players wanting to start the game i mean maybe ppl will try it but i can't see them sticking around.

Way too complex, auras and everything else that could involve cash shop tokens and other weird forms of currency. OSRS is just superior in a lot of ways, and then for 'bossing' other games are superior to either so in reality for the combat system RS3 has no reason to stick with it. I can't justify playing RS3 over OSRS, I even tried *again* to get into RS3 with fresh start worlds and everything just falls flat.
