Having worked in video production for 15 years, I’ve seen many production companies come and go and I put together a list of the 7 most common reasons behind their failure.
According to Small Business Administration (SBA), around 20% of business startups fail in the first year. And 50% don’t make it to five years and only 1 out of 3 are around in 10 years.
1 - lack of a system to bring in more business (rely on word of mouth)
2 - Not hiring help and trying to do everything yourself to maximize profit
3 - Scaling too quickly (hiring too fast before you actually need the help) (getting a big office, too much gear, etc) STORY
4 - tackling too many projects at the same time, can lead to getting hurt or burned out
5 - trying to hold on to another job or freelance career
6 - not charging enough for your service.
7 - Not delivering exceptional value to get repeat business and long-term clients
Learn the exact blueprint I used to go from a struggling videographer, to running a profitable video production business, in this one-hour free training.

Hello Saj, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am running a small production house here in Vienna for 39 years now and still making most of the mistakes on your list…. I think it is never to late to benefit from such clear words. Greetings!

Thank God since I've listened very little kid I'm talking 78 years old I've always had the entrepreneurial Spirit at heart. And you're a hundred percent right about film school not teaching a single thing about business; and I'm even talking about high-level not these private colleges you find on the there ads on the back of a beach at a bus stop. LOL

I just started my production company and your video got recommended to me. All information you gave here was good and I think I will stay with your channel. Except one thing unrelated thing bothered me, why are you based in a dangerous city like Chicago? :) I ask it in a funny way.

haha well I live in the suburbs and Chicago is not as bad as they make it out to be. I have family here, so that's the main reason why I'm here.
