My two quakers (boy and a girl) are in that puberty stage you're talking about, and they sure are 'biting balls of energy' these days. But I think it's more of a phase, and will come to pass (as everything in life does). Sure, all of us have days when we think "I cant deal with this sh*t today", but we have to remember the operative word is 'today'. Some days, it's the birds that are truly being difficult, while other days it's actually US that are being difficult (or less willing to deal with THEM being difficult, anyway). Nobody is a bottomless barell of patience day in and day out. That's all we need to keep in mind on the bad days. Too many people think of a difficult few days with their pet as an indication of a potentially difficult lifetime ahead. This ready jump to conclusions is the reason behind a majority of pet abandonments and re-homings. So, as much as we ask people to put research and thought into adopting an animal (as opposed to doing so on impulse), we need to ask them to put the same (if not more) research and thought before making the decision to give them up. Rehomings can involve just as much impulsive/reckless decision-making as adoptions, and sometimes even more so. Parents deal with difficult kids all the time. Even the more well-behaved toddler is worse than an ill-behaved bird, any given day, and yet, they don't so quickly 'rehome' their human toddlers now, do they? 🤣 At least, I sure hope not 😂😂😂 Jokes aside, why should it be any different when it comes to an animal that you have willingly taken in and committed to love as if they were your offspring? And, if you are going to say that, "its because they're lesser beings than human children and are more disposable", then I suggest with that mindset, you should consider not adopting any kind of animal in the first place.

This was so so beautifully written and so much truth to it, thank you for sharing this 🥺 its so true and ive told people that before too! You wouldn’t just give up your kid because they are being difficult? Yet people like to make themselves believe, “oh its different!” Or “are you seriously comparing an ANIMAL to a human child?” Like yes they are both living things with feelings and deserving of love. You must be extremely prideful to think one life is above another.

@@mimisbirdhouse Thank you, Mimi, for sharing this. I, too, have been part of those kinds of discussions more times than I'd have liked to be. The part that stings the most though, is that most of those flippant/dismissive remarks come from, of all the people, those closest to us. Those who, you'd think, have been the most intimate daily witnesses to the bond and affection you share with your adopted pet, and the things that matter to you in general. Makes you wonder, if all along they were paying any attention at all. P.S. This exchange we just had, for some reason it reminded me of a long-forgotten quote from one of my favourite books. Here it is: "Only that once again they broke the 'Love Laws'. The Love Laws, that lay down _who_ should be loved. And _how_ . And _how much_ ." -The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy

Only truth in this video. 1) Bruno was fluffy, cuddly child, then he got into puberty and oh man, it was scary time, he had death in his eyes. He is ok now but he had his moments. 2) Biting...yes. Oh and face biting is kinda scary, Bruno once bitten corner of my eye. 3) They get bored all the time, I can buy cool toy and bruno is bored 5minutes later 4)They will be glued to you :D bruno will follow me everywhere which may be cute, but I am stressed that he will feel lonely when i am away from home. i want to get second quaker in a year or two to be companion for him plus...mor quakers more fun. Overstimulation of quaker parrots is quite scary tho, they really bite you whatever move you make. 5)Are they really that jealous? Yes, just yes.

But a lot of times she doesn’t want to when I need her to. I know it’s a short time that I have had her but if I need to leave the house I need to put her in her cage. Also I have not found a treat that would motivate her. She doesn’t play with any toys. I have been trying to introduce toys but she is afraid of everything. She came from a person that had other birds and I think the other birds would attack her. She is very sweet and I am learning a lot with your videos. Do you suggest any treats that she may like? Just keep in mind quaker bites are much harder than cockatiels, even their playful bites can be ouchie but you get used to it 😅 Make sure not to cage the quaker with the cockatiels and if they are out to always supervise them together as quakers are temper-mental compared to cockatiels who are passive and calm and the quaker can easily hurt the cockatiel if they start fighting
