I met a Quaker parrot, who in addition to liking to bite for fun, would go into food mode, so if you unknowingly tried to touch her for whatever reason and you didn’t realise she was eating, she’d go manic and bite you, but once she was done if you made that same action she’d go in for the cuddle

THANK YOU. I learned a LOT. But I wanted to add IT’S EXTREMELY EASY TO HOUSEBREAK A BIRD I’m an old lady and I’ve had birds all my life. all my birds could fly, and I spent all day every day cleaning up after them on the floors, changing shirts every day at least twice or three times. I was down chairs and the tops of sofas. I spent hours every day, just making sure there was no poop on the human areasof my home. My 18-year-old bird housebroken herself. I’d like to tell you how easy it was.: When I got a new puppy, IParis was 18 yrs old. When I would take him out first thing in the morning naturally I took my sun conure out with us. I would put Paris on the Wrought iron railing, and then I would walk a few feet away & stand on the steps supervising my dog. I got to noticing that my bird poohed every morning when I had sat him on the railing-because, naturally, it was first thing in the morning & birds naturally have to Pooh as soon as they awaken. Well, my dog was trained, and I got to thinking why don’t I take Paris out every hour or so and put her on railing and see if he would Pooh. He always did. From that point I started putting him on the cage off of my shoulder about every hour as soon as he pooped I said nothing as I’ve heard housebreaking a. Bird is terrible, but I feel just placing a bird on a fence or on a cage & pickng them up just after they Pooh isn’t a bad thing in MY mind, Anytime just after she poohed I would put her back on my shoulder. She soon learned that INSIDE THE CAGE or OUTSIDE ON THE WROUGHT IRON RAILING were the ONLY places where he was supposed to poop. She didn’t mind it a bit. I seen an added an outdoor cage that I made out of a window. She considered that so naturally she pooped there. I also made a perch on the faucet inside the lavatory in the bathroom. She was with me all the time and so when I would go take a bath or put on my make up, I would set her on that perch. She would poo in the laboratory and then all I had to do was rinse it out. I live in when she died and I got a new Sun conure I named WhoDat. The lady, I bought him from said that he didn’t like to poo on a person and he would fly back to his cage already, so I bought an already housebroken bird, which was awesome. But naturally when he came to my house, he wasn’t used to it anytime I take (service dog out first thing in the morning. I moved from New Orleans and I’m in a different house no longer have wrought iron railing. So I put on a little railing that I have around my flowers. He immediately poops I pick him up. And he rides on my shoulder while we wait for my dog to pee. Inside the house, I would put him on the cage and when I saw him poo I would pick him up saying nothing and put him on my shoulder for a while. In a little while, I would put him back on the cage and as soon as he pooped, I would put him back on my shoulder. Now he does it within 30 seconds and he’s back on my shoulder. I have perches in every room like I’m sure all of you do. I did the same with every perch and every room putting him on it letting him poo and then putting immediately back on my shoulder. I named each perch cage so that when I had him on my shoulder and I didn’t want to walk all the way over there, I would just tell him, “Go HOME (that’s the cage in my bedroom. I didn’t do this just to have him poop, sometimes I would just send him to his cage because I had things to do, but he knew to put there because he had learned wherever he perched that was where he was supposed to go. This little darling, poos Only on his cages 98% of the time. Once in a while, I’ll be watching television and it’ll be two or three hours. He’ll be sitting on my shoulder and I’ll forget my shirt. I just thought this would save you a heck of a lot of time and it’s very easy to do. Birds are extremely intelligent and Paris in essence “housebroken herself” & this, in turn taught ME what to do when I got a new bird. You may or may not want to try it, but I just felt I could save you a few hours every day if you decided to housebreak your Birds. Again, thank you much for your videos. I learned a lot. I’ve taken three pages of notes just on this video alone.!!!! I had Paris for 20 years and I never had to clean up the floor or the bed or chairs or anything for those last 2 yrs. . Sometimes she would still poo on my shoulder, not often, but that was my fault because I had forgotten to put her on her cage.

A nice tribute to Kiwi. He and my late Jenday Conure,Snarky no doubt flying in heaven and keeping things lively for the angels. my 21 yr old QP, Coco and 15 yr old Green Cheek Conure, Baby Girl in good health so far.As i saw with my late Conure, things change quick, and no warning until it's too late. I miss him like you do Kiwi. They are a lot of company to me as a senior citizen living alone. They have been with me since they were babies after their weaning. Snarky was like Eric Cartman, SouthPark TV show. He kept things in the birdroom, let's say interesting like Eric. i was the only human he'd let handle him. Daddy's boy. He'd watch over the flock and god help whoever tried to hurt the other birds. Snarky would have torn them up. He would not have went down without a fight i'm sorry for your loss of Kiwi. He was well taken care of by you and his flock. We both have good memories, videos, and pictures to fall back on of our feather babies.

@@mimisbirdhouse Our flock is one fatty female Quaker which only loves me and one green cheek male. They are together 24/7 and are happy. We got the female when she was 9 weeks old because she was ruffing up the other two babies and taking all the food “liquid food then”. So we feed her here another 5-6 weeks and kept her away from the boy. But wow, Relly “green cheek” was 6 months old and just loved her. Been together non stop for 2 yrs and counting. Both talk but she can really talk. Entire sentences at times. So cute! We all enjoy your vids and always have a laugh! ❤️❤️💪

@mimisbirdhouse 5 күн бұрын
Personally I would say a 7y old and a bird can be tricky. They are extremely tough pets who require hours and hours of your day. They will bite and scream and make such a mess. The reality is it will probably fall on you to clean up everything. On top of that the costs and vet bills youd have to be prepared for. That being said some sweeter birds id recommend are green cheek conures, cockatiels and budgies. All friendly, gentle and sweet. Not that they wont be moody and bite but in my opinion more manageable than a quaker parrot or sun conure

You have to get papers from the vet proving his blood work is free of disease, find an airline that accepts birds and that they can be with you on the seat. Check the countries regulations for exotic pets to be brought in as well :)

Hello! I took my bird out for the first time today, he’s been caged the past 3 years of his life, at first he just hung out at the door of the cage trying to figure out what to do, then he freaked out and started flying all over the room, it worried me so much and he was so tired after he stayed at the bottom of his cage (I had to hold him and put him inside) with his mouth open and his wings drooping, I’m not sure how I could prevent that next time

@mimisbirdhouse
@mimisbirdhouse 10 күн бұрын
It was his first time flying so they probably dont have the muscle strength in their wings or stamina, the open beak and droopy wings can be from heat and exhaustion from flying. Theres no need to prevent it, just allow them to practice everyday and they will slowly build up the strength. Make sure the room isnt too hot and you can even leave a shallow bowl as a bath if they want to cool down. Eventually with practice they will get it ☺️

@mimisbirdhouse
@mimisbirdhouse 19 күн бұрын
Quakers are parrots in need of a lot of attention as they are very social birds. They need many hours of out the cage with interaction and stimulation. Please dont take this rudely, just a personal suggestion that if no one can give the quaker these things id think of rehoming. The bird is desperate for attention and may soon undergo stress where they start plucking out their own feathers

I have two Quaker parrots named Jasper and Perry which Jasper is my name and I like that she posted this video because it basically tells you she basically tells you that it is about their life basically so I have two Quaker parrots there the exact same way they're about 2 years old they were rescued they were neglected in a I don't know how to put this they were put outside in the cage and left outside for hours and days and had no food or water so they were on the brink of dying and when we got them from the owner the the owner that was that got the birds that were rescued they were still a little skinny and they still didn't really like humans but when I got them they basically bonded me bonded to me really easily and now they're in my upstairs laying down sleeping they're cute cuddly but they will get aggressive sometimes they will bite they will do all kinds of stuff but you still got to love them they're like humans you just got to love them like a toddler so thank you for showing this video
