Do you think Robby lost on purpose?

Anakin Skywalker was definitely the most dynamic character in season 4 of Cobra Kai.

I couldn't stand Robby for the first few seasons however this season made me really respect him as a character and he is quickly becoming one of my favourites.

Tanner improved his acting a lot this season. All the fight scenes Robby had a fire in his eyes. Also his emotional scenes with Johnny and Tory.

Robbie is my fav from Season 4. He has street cred, he's using his connections and helping out a youngin- leader. He's leading the class at Cobra Kai to show he's up in the ranks. He went to a party dripped out, got some play in the Maybach after turning the party out. He realized he can't keep blaming Johnny and tuned in to what he feels. Robbie killed it this season.

I think Robby hesitated because, seeing anger and hatred in Kenny's eyes, he realized that Kenny had gotten the wrong message from Karate.All martial arts, as a term of comparison to life, must be based on honor, loyalty, respect for the adversary and for oneself. If they are used as an instrument of violence, then they are wrong.

I was convinced Robby would win his own way, refusing to cheat or fight dirty despite Kreese and Silver's demands. Leading to him taking a season or two off as he wants to get away from it all.

The real loss for Robby was not the match but the downward spiral of Kenny. But ultimately he scored a small win too by reconciling with his father.

Robby has always been a good kid just had some hardship and Tanner plays that perfectly

Robby has always been my favorite character. He’s gotten a lot of hate from the fans over the seasons. but his past & the way he was treated through out his life shaped him into bad shape. I really hope when Johnny goes back to get Miguel, that he will finally begin to really focus on Robby. & Miguel needs to finish his training with Daniel. Robby & Miguel are truly gonna be unstoppable like Yin & Yang under the right guidance if they work together.

I think what he realised when he saw Kenny there was his relationship with Johnny, what i mean isrobby did everything he could do for Kenny to help him with his bullies but in reality him letting him into cobra kai made him the bully, I think robby saw that in Kenny that no matter how much he mentored him kenny still went on the wrong path, in this he saw his relationship with Johnny, No matter how much Johnny wanted to make amends and be a good father Robby still walked down a wrong path, which leads to end scene where Robby finally sees that all this time he just needed to accept his father to go on the right path.

Robby did say “It’s like looking in a mirror” when looking at Kenny

He definitely had the match against Hawk won, but he hesitated and that ended up costing him. It sucks for Kenny because it looks like he's going to be one nasty antagonist in the upcoming seasons. Tanner's acting for Robbie was on a whole other level in that scene he had with Johnny at the end 👏👏👏

This was an pivotal momement for Robby. His hesitation was much like the hesitation Darth Vader showed before he helped Luke. At that very moment, he knew he a choice of two paths; continue down the dark journey of the Cobra Kai or give up the hate, anger, and resentment that had clouded his judgement. Choicing the second path was shown clearly when he followed Johnny to the original dojo and forgave his father. I think we will see Robby becoming a very strong person basing his decisions on principle not passion.

One of the main points of this entire show seems to be: No one person is all good or all bad. The good folks on this show even have some flaws. The bad people have a least a little capacity to do good. Johnny Lawrence said it best: “The world is not always black and white. More often than not, it’s grey.”

Fear is why Robby hesitated. Fear is why Robby lost. He feared what he could be come.

The more I think about it Robby and Miguel had the same arc they realize they weren't fighting for themselves Robby finally realized this during the match and hesitated I don't think he threw the match.

I think Tory may also join eagle fang dojo, due to how she played in the finals, how she stood up to Silver saying that she doesn’t need to cheat to win, and how she apologised for elbowing sam in her eye

I would like to hear a Spoiler full review by you. Commenting on the emitional depth of some of the scenes. I think Hawk losing his Mohawk was the most emotional, pivotal moments. The helplessness of it all. Having you identity stripped away. You can see he didn't walk or talk the same after that. Until Moon spoke to him at the tournament. After that he walked with his Swagger again. He became the best version of himself. A binary brother martial artist.

Great video! I also like the Star Wars analogies. I guess that makes me a nerd 🤓 Mr. Miyagi's words "Never put passion before principle, even if you win you lose." really rocked Robby. I can't wait to see what happens in the 5th season!

I'm glad they had the scene with him doing bench presses too because the actor playing Robby has definitely packed on some muscle since season 1 too.

I think Robbie still thought he would win but he didn’t want to win it that way with Kenny looking on. He was probably thinking he could get hawk with a standup attack

He lost on purpose, Eli and Robby were a good match but Robby outclassed him. It was Daniel that got to him. Telling him even if he wins he still losses. That is why he came back to his dad and I think Robby goes with Johnny to look for Miguel.

Robby is my favourite character. When I was watching the show I was thinking that Robby would lose so cobra Kai would shut down, I was happy when Eli won, but I still love what robby’s character has become.

Great analysis

Robby was the better fighter and we saw it from the beginning of the season till the end. Miguel and Robby were both better fighters than Hawk (obviously, cause they are leads and Hawk is a very beloved minor character, but still a minor character). Robby didn't win cause he was distracted by Kenny (after what he did to Anthony) and by contemplating the changes that happened in both himself and the kid he was trying to help. He lost that chance, lost balance and Hawk won. Hawk was completely focused on the tournament and that victory was the most important thing to him, but both Robby and Miguel had bigger things happening.

Tanner Buchanan really reminds me of Hayden Christensen. Season 4 & 5 really showed how good of actor tanner is. Disney should cast him as a young anakin in his early teens!

I think he hesitated because the pose he was in reminded him of when Miguel stopped fighting and pulled out of the fight during the day that RObby paralyzed him. He ree-iderated in his mind hat to do but that moment of thought costed him the match.

I think Robby paused for various reasons. He was reminded of when Miguel and him fought at the school and the damage it caused because Miguel showed him mercy. He’s seen Cobra Kai as being soulless/Kennys transformation. As the old saying goes “all roads lead to here”. I think both Miguel and Robby are ready to walk away from karate, as Hawk was as well after his hair was cut. In each way the gang are realising that they need to “break the wheel” and not continue down the “dark path”. The next generation will put their anger and hatred away. Grow as the senseis didn’t and lead productive lives with no emotional baggage.

Well done sir. I read the scene between Robby and Kenny as mirroring or rhyming with Johnny's emotions towards Miguel at the last tournament. I think that when Robby looked at Kenny he realized what Kenny was becoming just as when Johnny looked at Miguel in season 1 and realized what Miguel was becoming. In the the locker room Robby even says to Kenny what Johnny said to Miguel "This is not how I trained you." I think this is when it dawned on Robby that he was walking the same path his father did. Which in S4E4 Robby told Johnny that being like his dad was his greatest fear.

Based on season 5 leaks, he actually joins Johnny in South America to look for Miguel. It will be a good bonding experience for them, especially since Miguel is looking for his Dad, which Robby can relate to (in trying to find that father figure). I wonder why after hesitating he kept on going though, but he did look distracted tbh, almost like he wanted this to be over.

Kenny's arc very much reminded me of Anakin's, how a pure soul that couldn't defend himself or his family was tainted by a bad teacher, but became powerful. But thinking about it, I think you're right in saying that Robby is like Anakin, because he's straddled the light and dark sides and feels that he doesn't fit in either world, and everyone is after him but he just wants his own thing and to feel loved and like he fits in.

Robby lost balance when he hesitated to score the next point which will make him a winner but lost focus of what he did to Kenny and what he made him become that's why he lost and regrets coming to Cobra Kai but in my opinion the real win for Robby was when he got his dad back in his life which was his real victory

First, BRAVO to season number FOUR !!!!!! Robbie indeed ( I hope ) has found his way and it seems like it when he told Johnny he was tired of hating him ( uh, not those exact words but around that point ). I love the analogy of Robbie to Anakin. The characters were parallel save for Robbie turning it around and Anakin ......well, we know what happen there. The character of Robbie I liked which is to say I love Cobra Kai and seeing his path makes me like him more. I hope that he and Johnny can work together in season five.

Honestly I think he didn’t want to be the one to bring down his father and Daniels’s dojo. It was as simple as that.

Robbie was distracted by Kenny, because he saw how vicious and nasty his little student was being which shocked him.

I hope there is another all valley before Robby turns 18 and since he has made up with his dad or has gotten that closure that will mean he has finally found his real balance and he will win the all valley. Because Robby had lost twice now and he really deserves to win.

Robby in S5 to Daniel is gonna be like: "You were right. You were right about me..." Anakin is back! He even got the Sith eyes in the final matches. Especially with Kenny, he was like: "Master Keene, there are too many of them, what am I going to do?" So, on to the topic of the video. Robby explains it himself in the final moments of the season but here are several reasons (plus the one he gives): 1. Robby saw what Kenny was turning into, he tried to teach him to defend himself against bullies but made him a bully himself. Of course Cobra Kai helped with it but Robby took Kenny under his wing so he let it happen and it was his fault. He finally understood how hard it is to be a mentor/father figure when you don't have balance yourself first, that's why he said it was like looking in a mirror. 2. Daniel's speeches got to him. Daniel warned him that Silver (and Kreese by default) will turn him into someone else and that his hands will get bloody. Robby realised that when he obliterated Kenny, having Kenny's blood on his hands. That's when it hit him that hes going down the wrong path. He didn't like what he saw in Kenny and realised that they are on the same path. 3. Miyagi-Do never left him. Throughout the season you can see that Robby is still respectful and has the protective instinct for Kenny. He went to Johnny first to tell him to stop the students from bullying Kenny, he softened Tory up and never stroke first, going down to the Cobra Kai level. The only bad thing that he did was cut Hawk's hair and if we're being honest Hawk deserved it like Robby said. He didn't fight dirty in the tournament, he was honorable and respected Eli for giving him a good fight. 4. Terry's attitude put him off at the finals. He stood up to him when Terry judged his respect on Eli and showed that he's as easy to handle. His advice to fight dirty to Tory also put him off, already having lost in S1 by dirty fighting he knew that this was wrong. 5. He seemed bumbed to lose but not too bumbed. It wasn't as important to him as he thought. His influence on Kenny was more important to him than winning so he was conflicted and didn't have balance inside him. His whole ordeal with Karate started with him catching his dad's attention. He discovered many things through Daniel's teachings, found that he's very talented at it and even came close to changing his life for the better but his motivation was always to get closer to Johnny. So he didn't really want it and with Eli getting a confidence boost by Moon they were evenly matched.

Maybe in the next seasons he will win but with the good guys this time and maybe under Chozen's wing

Robby was scary when he beat down Kenny at the tournament.

Robby went from an anakin to an obi wan realizing he failed with his training and now has to live with the guilt that his apprentice is now on the side of evil.

He didn’t listen, as usual. He let emotions cloud his judgement and lost because of it. At least it was better than just randomly fleeing the country like Miguel

Well clearly it's because of Kenny and the Cobra Kai teachings, Robby comes to terms with this just before the fight then in the heat of the moment see's all his anger into what Kenny has now become and then after that he's never really able to regain control of the fight he loses concentration and succumbs to Hawk

I did watch Karate Kid 2 today. I did notice that Daniel dancing with Kumiko. They was very good dancer which remind me of Robby dancing with Tory S4E8.

Robbie kind of has elements of Revan. Having walked both paths. It will be interesting where the writers go with him. He had such control over his emotions in every interaction this season. It was really cool to see his progression as a character.

I don't think he lost on purpose, but had a moment of self reflection when he looked over at Kenny and lost concentration. I don't think he was 100% focused and it's why he lost Eli is close to his level, but I still believe Robby and likely Miguel are still the slightly better fighters

I would like to see robby go with his dad and help get Miguel home self. And robby and Miguel get closer like brother.

I think Robby will go with Johnny to find Miguel. This will lead to a bonding moment between the three, and from then on... Robbie & Miguel will be good friends.

Robby had one of the best character arcs in Season 4 this Season showed that even though he joined Cobra Kai he wasn’t really a bad guy he may have turned evil but he was looking out for Kenny and made sure he was safe when he was facing Hawk and got him pinned to the floor you could tell when he was distracted by Kenny that he saw that he changed and had anger and hatred in his eyes and saw that he was now a bully

I think it's fun to make comparisons to other franchises such as Star Wars. One thing I thought was when Robby was fighting against Kenny, he was dodging without issue which reminded me of Ultra Instinct from DB Super. But one thought I had was, when he's a bit older, Kenny's actor could possibly play as Miles Morales in a live-action version of Spider-Man. Give him a couple of years and he'll be the right age, right in time for some sequels coming out.
