Once a muslim asked me to speak with him in private after I made a lot of jokes (not nice ones tbh). He politely asked me to stop because in islam you can’t be friends with someone who mocks you constantly. Out of respect I stopped saying jokings about islam. Tbh these guys I know (muslims) are literally the most respectful people I’ve ever known. No joke they took care of me when my car got stolen and when I got fired of my job they gave me a place to sleep for literally 7 months. They made me dinner and breakfast and were very sad the day I left. Thanks to these muslims I’ve learned so much about respect, hospitality, religion & brotherhood. Now im a Muslim after all these years

I'm a Christian and I fully support someones rights to make jokes about Christianity, especially if the person you're joking with is on the same page as you. That doesn't mean I tolerate blatant disrespect of my religion, but I'm fully capable of laughing about something that we as flawed people struggle to fully comprehend when it comes to religion. But I think saying one religion should be off limits is pretty dumb and sorta disrespectful to all religions, including the one that is off limits. That being said, I do think it's the responsibility of those who practice a religion, to defend that religion if someone does try to actually discredit their belief. But I don't think that's what comedians are trying to do. Most of the time, the comedians are what you're laughing at because of their absurd view of something like religion, politics, culture, etc.

Its because thats how it works for a lot of people. In general most people dont actually want to say words that hurts others. Yet until its a friend its hard to understand that. Thats why if a friend says hey can you not say that it hurts my feelings. The friendship ends on the spot or the person stops saying it in general. The person realizes they dont care if they hurt that person and dont understand why what they are saying is hurtful.

I as a Muslim don’t accept anyone mocking my religion and any other religion, in the Quran it says don’t curse or make fun of someone else’s religion that they might mock god without knowledge. So even when sometimes some Muslim say something not nice about other religions we try to remind him/her that this isn’t who we are. Alhamdulillah for Islam.

Especially when there is no Muslim to defend the religion when these insults are being made. Muslims do not mock or insult any religion. Criticism is always welcome in Islam. How many stories do we here where criticism of the Judiasm/Jewish community gets people cancelled/ostracized or where a Christian gets kicked out of Sunday school for asking too many questions? As a muslim I say don't make fun of anyone's religion. You can speak about anything but you need to be respectful. Making fun and mocking I mean think about it. You're making fun of the most beloved thing of someone. At least that is what's most important and beloved for us. I'm not huge on religion overall. I am not Muslim, but I know a lot of followers of the Quran, an I genuinely respect them as people, their beliefs and so much more, they are the nicest, kindest people, even in points of friction they always take the high ground 95% of the time. They just want to be your friends and have a level of respect and want it reciprocated. Some of the best conversations, food and celebrations they are willing to share to everyone and let educate people when asked about it and the peace of it and knowledge came from them.

I'm an ex muslim that believes in god but I don't follow any religion. muslims that take the islamic faith serious are the most humble respectful and hospitable people I've ever met. It's the same energy and way of life across all cultures. The teachings of Islam taught me to be humble, honorable, and hospitable. It's how they live and carry themselves. If you spend less time on social media and watching anti islamic propaganda on tv and spend time with real muslims you'd realize how good natured they actually are.

All of those are done peacefully and respectfully (even though I do admit there are a few Muslims out there who give us a bad name now and then). As for the blasphemy laws you've mentioned, they were put specifically in place to prevent any sort of disrespect towards our prophet (pbuh) and Allah (SWT). But I do understand your concerns as if right now there are many Middle Eastern countries (which are usually the richest) that would use such laws to imprison whom they believe as "disrespecting the faith" just to shut them and lock em up as fast as they can. The issue isn't religious, it's politics tryna ooze its way into Islam by corrupt leaders. Also would like to add: that mentioning Iran as "what true Islam is supposed to be like" to us is the same as saying North Korea is a democracy.

My workout buddy in college was Muslim, he was a wonderful person. I think as with any religion there are some bad apples that spoil their image. The ones you see on the news criticizing Christians for eating during Ramadan etc. There are good, and bad people everywhere. I respect Sean for choosing friendship.
