My opinion: characters having weaknesses doesn’t diminish their strengths unless it directly conflicts with their ability to utilize said strengths. As an example Tulak Hord, if his legend is accurate, is probably the best lightsaber duelist ever and he died from getting literally stabbed in the back. If he had fought his assassin head on he would have won. This makes his strength unquestionable even while his weakness was exploited.

Force Users are pretty nuts, we really don't see that in movies because there's not that many force users around in the time of the Empire, mostly because Palpatine didn't want competition. In the last days of the Old Republic, the Jedi had lost a step or two since their glory days and the Sith were laying low. Certainly nothing like Naga Sadow or Darth Bane achieved. Sadow and his Meditation Sphere could turn the course of wars and Bane once kept himself perfectly dry during a torrential rainstorm using only his lightsaber to block each raindrop.

The only thing he said I agreed with is power and strength is a matter of perspective. While he is not wrong how the force works generally works, how many people we see actually pull off what Starkiller has done? It really gets under my skin when someone just tries to downplay the video games the force unleashed 1/2. There's a video on KZfaq where you can watch how the game was made. They literally took notes from Lucas himself to make that game to what it became. Yea StarKiller had weaknesses, if you familiar with the story you know why. Instead of that being respected, it's like the narrator uses that to justify his reasoning on Starkiller not being special. The Force Unleashed series is what made me care about Star Wars. So in turn I explored more of it. It never makes sense to me why these old heads or fans of lore before Starkiller go out their way to minimize Starkiller's achievements. Something about Starkiller to me at least seems to really rub them the wrong way somehow.

Starkiller may not have been at the levels of beings like Nihilus, Vitiate, Marka Ragnos, Luke, Anakin pre-Mustafar, or other mega-powered Force-users but he was absolutely one of the strongest Force-wielders in the Galaxy AT THE TIME that he lived. I mean, he literally pulled a Star Destroyer down onto the surface of Raxus Prime, and you can see parts of it blowing up under the sheer strain caused by the engines overworking trying to right the ship. He was trained by Vader, a former Jedi Council member, to kill rebels and Force-wielders, and he arguably only beat Shaak-Ti because of the sheer Dark Side energies all over Felucia. He beat Vader in combat because he knew Vader's fighting style and weaknesses. Palpatine arguably let Starkiller win to try and replace Vader like with Luke later on. Yeah the 2nd game is kinda hokey and Force Unleashed has that "hack and slash" vibe to it but I've never seen Starkiller as super strong or crazy OP, he's a Secret Apprentice of Darth Vader who was born to 2 Jedi parents and raised on Kasshyyk until he was like 8 where he watched everyone he knew die and then was honed into an assassin's blade until he was 18 or 19

I'm on board with this. I don’t think Starkiller is OP, but that's not what makes him special and my favorite character. It's is story and his journey of being immersed in darkness for so long, and then being saved by the light at the end that makes him special, because for all the darkness in him during the time, he still had some spots of light in him, and that led him to redemption in the first game, that makes him my favorite.

As much as I love The Force Unleashed, I've often found myself mentioning in various comments sections that Starkiller is nowhere near as OP as many Sith... especially as the most powerful ancient Sith were able to cause supernovae or drain life from entire planets. A great example of this is when in TFU2, he's still standing after minutes of constant lightningstorm hitting him. It took all the electricity in tge area in combination with Starkiller clone's full power to finally overwhelm him. Palpatine's lightning doesn't count cos it's simply another level of power. @@emzonik8851 This is the problem with those people who only rely on feats. You don't need a billion feats to prove a character's level. All you need is one good feat and you can scale around it. Like in Dragonball, Goku has never destroyed a planet, but he's battled planet busters and beaten them. Therefore, he's a planet buster. A good statement can be used to scale,even without a feat. Also if I remember correctly Luke in in the Yuzan Vong war was able to juice up so much, that he beat up the Vong with Force Powers which they are resistant/immune against literally pulling a "no u" card

Force healing is a strict light side ability. The other abilities mentioned are often taught. When comes to taught abilities Galen was more advance then even some sith masters. Anikan and luke having the same midichlorian counts was capable of feats beyond normal. Luke was more well learned than his father in legends therefore became more powerful but there potential was the same.

My headcanon for Starkiller's immense power was he had a unique ability to overload his capacity to channel the Force, at the price of quickly burning out. While he could tap into his full potential at such a young age, that potential was capped. He'll never be a master. Like Maul before him, he was a weapon, but instead of a scalpel, he was a wrecking ball, a blunt instrument.

This video makes good points, but power levels in Star Wars, to whatever extent they actually exist, are purely based on how cool a character is. Thats why Starkiller/Galen is in a league of his own imo
@videocrowsnest5251
@videocrowsnest5251 Жыл бұрын
I think this whole discussion of the power of characters revolving around power levels would be quite a good one to have, because it's quite a common occurrence. The idea of power levels feels directly like it comes from a game, where a level 50 player has nothing to fear from level 3 chickens. In this case, seeing as Starkiller is from one, it makes sense why it's so heavily mixed in, but in a lot of cases it feels like this kind of thinking leaks in regardless of are we talking a game or not. Curiously, it leads to a lot of trying to objectively decide who is more powerful than the other, when that usually leads to mostly it being, as per usual, a matter of opinion. The key point is trying to just dress this opinion as an "objective fact." Furthermore, this idea of gamifying power tends to also time to time leak into real life too, which I won't go into much more beyond saying it's not at all a good way of thinking about the world. Backing up a bit, and going into the power scaling of characters, this whole thing is always framed as the level 50 player and the level 3 chicken. Which forgets, that fights (as usually power is linked closely to looking at combat ability, rather than outside of it) are unpredictable chaotic messes, where sure being pretty experienced, well-trained, and all that helps...but it is not any guarantee you are walking off the battlefield intact. Or alive, for that matter. Especially because even trained combatants have off days. Underdogs can pull completely amazing performances, and beat opponents far better than them. Chance and luck can play a part: Even the mightiest warrior who ever lived can't do jack if they happen to during a ferocious fight slip on an inconvenient bit of ice, and get speared through the face during that loss of balance. Fights are not power fantasies after all, and a pack of angry chickens can cause a big time battler to trip off a cliff. Mind you, this aint me saying this way of thinking is bad, or to stop doing it, but merely pondering a bit more upon it. It's all fun and games as long as people are civil about it, and it remains in the realm of fiction. I also wonder, as a writer, apparent as it might be, how much do writers have to do with this way of thinking continuing to prevail? Certainly if power levels keep being brought up there has to be something in the pudding that proves writers are feeding this sort of thinking too. I personally feel the most spice is kept when it's a bit vague on how the power scaling works, or even if it's apparent a character is a powerhouse, there is still plenty of show that underdogs can still take rounds, and that the chaos of battle makes it, so even a lesser opponent can come out on top.
@videocrowsnest5251
@videocrowsnest5251 Жыл бұрын
Noting here that it's wise to consider what power even means in terms of the fictional universe we are talking about. Fictional universes all have different rules, after all. Even this being the case, I present a little fun challenge: Say you got a massive burly warrior type with plenty of brain and brawn, plus an impressive list of merits to their name in terms of battles won. They have a friend, who isn't at all a combatant, but very much is someone who the warrior type respects, and listens to their opinion, taking it as good council to decide will they get themselves involved in battle, or not. A third character is a part of this trio, who is important as the equipment maintainer, and medic who tends to the wounds of the warrior after every battle. So in this scenario, we've yet to answer, what is power? So who has the power? Is it the warrior type? The friend giving good council? The support person of nondescript combat abilities? Certainly they are all powerful in their own right in this scenario, but so who's the most powerful out of them? Does slapping levels onto them improve or help at all in answering this? If no, do you need to think in levels? If the answer is still no, why do it? Does it also even matter?

@@scerkann3966 I think you’re giving Starkiller a bit too much credit. Starkiller is strong, but a lot of what he brings to the table is more flash than bang. And one of the most consistent issues he has, both as himself and with his clone Starkiller is that he has flimsy force defenses, which have been broken by the force users he’s fought, and isn’t something he’s overcome. Starkiller has alot of things he’s learned, but he’s spread himself too far and too thin. Revan’s biggest issue is that a lot of his feats come from accolades, and one of the few times he’s shown fighting is in the Revan novel and the Swtor mmo. But Revan was the one who was able to defeat Mandalore the Ultimate, as well as Darth Malak who was empowered by the star forge. And with Revan, he’s someone whose participated in wide scale conflicts as a boots on the ground commander, where as starkiller was trained as an assassin to dispatch enemies of the empire, and then used those skills to target the empire. And Revan has a wider breath of techniques that’s he’s learned during his time as a Jedi knight and one of the reigning dark lords. And much of those things synergize well with one another. Starkiller’s only really fought the lingering vestiges of the Jedi order that were already weakened due to Order 66, and the swelling of the dark side that was permeating every corner of the galaxy. Starkiller is a good assassin, but he’s not a good warrior, and what he’s bringing to the table isn’t anything Revan hasn’t already dealt with and overcome before.

I mean, you can say it’s not about raw power but it’s canon that anakin, luke and the last few Sith Lords had insane midochlorian counts, anakin being around 25k per cell which was insane (average jedi was like 3-5k). Yoda was said to be very high too, qui-gon commenting that anakin was higher than master yoda and seeming very surprised about it. Grogu seems to indicate the same, as he’s just a baby and thus can’t really believe anything to that level yet he’s doing some pretty impressive feats of raw power. I think it’s more fair to say that power is helpful but skill can make up for it, like anything else. People like anakin have a handicap of sorts in their power, his force usage won’t exhaust him as easily and he can more easily accomplish great feats. He isn’t exactly struggling that hard when he conquered two force gods at once. Similarly Darth Palegious (spell check) was specifically bred for natural power in the force by his master and because he was so strong he was able to influence the force itself, changing the nature of it. On the inverse side those of low midichlorian counts could hardly manipulate the force at all, low enough and it was literally impossible. Sure skill helped, surrendering to the will of the force and whatnot, but at the end of the day it’s hard to argue that the strongest force users ever had either really high midichlorian counts or a crutch like nihilius.

The issue I take with this is that it's in no uncertain terms presenting the notion that the force is only limited by a user's mentality, pretty much all but outright stating that genetics or learned talent or natural affinity don't have any bearing so long as the force user can essentially *want* it strongly enough, and we already, all of us, know that this is just plain downright false. There are dozens of examples that contradict this claim, from Anakin and his latent potential due to being a literal force-conceived child, to Darth Bane and Darth Sidious performing impressive dark side feats as *actual children* without ever having received any training or knowledge of the force. The Nihlus downplay is just denial plain and simple. He is absolutely one of the strongest force wielders in the entire series and only the ignorant would scoff at his ability. Nihlus essentially has a curse. His power is some of the greatest the SW galaxy has seen, with his ability to drain the life of an entire planet being matched by few if any. His dependency on force vampirism however is essentially like a chain on his leg, forcing him to continually seek out and drain the life of things to live. But it needs to be understood that while Nihlus needs to do this to stay alive, it does not stifle his real power and and absolutely doesn't negate his past feats. *TL;DR:* His ability to use force drain on a massive scale with extreme potency isn't removed by his need to use it to live. I know most everyone makes a stinker of a video sometimes, but this one has to be the fattest L I've seen this channel take in a long while. This is not about difference of opinion; Some of the statements made in this video are misleading to plain wrong. It really is one thing to have an opinion but this is not presented as one individual's preference or personal thoughts; this all feels like someone who has personal beef with the power scaling and versus communities and is disguising a passive aggressive rant against them as a faux truth bomb type of video.

Legends/Expanded Universe is the *official* Star Wars. what Disney says is "canon" is nothing but a knock off so bad, it'd be better to watch the Sharknado movies. not to mention that they've been stealing artwork from fans, not paying the authors of Star Wars books, stealing material from Legends, to name a few of their crimes. Legends is tried and true, a classic. Disney's "canon" is a one of those brand new products that doesn't work.

I think it's a mixture of both belief and power. Only someone strong enough with the force and so connected to the dark side could get powerful enough to pull a star destroyer down. Yoda being Jedi probably couldn't only because it would take falling to the dark side to unlock that kind of raw power. Its been a long time so i forget the exact reason he pulled it down. But if I remember right he was in a lot of emotional pain and suffering when he pulled it down. He channeled so much through the dark side that he could do something no one else has, even if they could given a similar situation.

He didn't pull the destroyer down, we'll he does in the game but the Canon materials were the books. Here the Star Destroyer was already on its way to crash to the planet and Starkiller grabbed it and guided it down, if I recall correctly because his ship and friends would have otherwise been in the direct path of the Star Destroyer. Also Yoda could totally pull down Star Destroyers, he once pushed a giant living mountain with the force, which he couldn't before because he thought he wouldn't be able to. It's a really weird concept.
