I remember a time when people would say that men weren't allowed to be emotional in movies and stuff and that's why they had it worse than women. Yet it's weird how there was a heel-turn on the subject and now men aren't allowed to show emotion, or be weak or anything.

100% agree. It just blows my mind how critical drinker is obsessed with going back to that era of cinema where men were stoic, and mostly one dimensional. I understand the argument of wanting balance, but at the same time, why does every male character in fiction have to be balanced? You can have some male characters who are stoic. Some male characters who are emotional. Or some male characters who are balanced. The fact that he acts like every male character who is in touch with their emotions is a problem.

Critical Drinker is the Jordan Petersen of Media Analysis. On the surface he seems legitimate and does give occasional valid criticism in his field of “expertise”. However, there are tons of times where their analysis is inadequate or lacking in nuance. If you attempt to call it out their supporter base is quick to defend them for arbitrary reasons. My point being that, like Jordan Peterson, people act as though Critical Drinker is “untouchable”. That he can’t or shouldn’t be criticized for his takes. Or act as if anyone who questions his views of entertainment are “misguided”. Yes, critical drinker has bad takes…often.

The Rocky thing is especially egregious since he's basically a stand-in for Sly himself, and Rocky is a "sad sack" in the Creed movies because the actor himself was going through family tragedies. But After WWE2k20 and Cyberpunk and a lot of the Madden games you would think that would be what the anti-woke group would focus on. Nope they keep saying it's go woke go broke. I mean the real reason I stopped watching the NHL they added to many teams when there is not enough people that play Hockey to being with. So the game to me is dead. Has nothing to do with woke. Hey whazzup? long time watcher of the channel here, I wanted to give you my opinion on the video and some criticism. First of all I think the editing is very good and I like the documentary esc style of the video and the Collab is also fun, and I am fond to see the charm of your other "regular" videos that you do. However being the dick I am I can't see things without acknowledging the flaws. My first criticism of the video is that there are weird pauses some times when you and the other channels talking (this isn't a criticism of the points, just the way you talk when you say them), it's like I would say: "I very much liked the video. One of the things I like are..." The points are good just they are not spoken consistently and give the impression that the video very amateur-ish (?). Also the video gets kind of repetitive at points for a long form video like this, often repeating the same sort of points or at least being presented as such. It feels like a couple of videos glued together in a longer video. A KZfaqr that does long videos is hbommerguy, I like him very much and he is very entertaining but you can also take videos of j Aubrey which are more close to what I think this video is aiming for. Another thing I personally don't like is that most of the video is a bunch of clips without many stating creative arguments or at least in a creative way. Anyway, I'm sorry if this seems kind of mean but I don't think the video is bad, it's very good I just think it has flaws that hurt what I at least think it was trying to and I wrote this comment instead of doing an assignment for school so hopefully you'll change it. I shall return when I have more criticisms and good things to say. Dydyxgxh

I assume Critical Drinker feels that the only flaw a male character is allowed to have is "I smolder with generic rage!" leaving him only able to consume the oeuvre of Zack Snyder because that sums up pretty much all his male heroes. Though even Snyder is suspect given films like Sucker Punch and Rebel Moon which :gasp: star women. But it's easy to see why he's so upset over the depiction of men in modern film and how ignorant SJW writers inject wokeness by giving their characters flaws and making them struggle and not always succeed. All the best stories have the characters start at perfection and never grow or change in any way, because that's a compelling arc, watching a guy go from godlike perfection to godlike perfection.

Something to be said about the editing in CD's videos: It's been clear to me for a long time given the timing of cuts and the sometimes strange filters over the clips that he uses that he's often just taking someone's KZfaq music video centered around something/someone (or someone's quick-cut clip compilation), stripping the audio from it, and using the footage as background in his video. I doubt he acquires permission from the original creators when he does this, though obviously I cannot say; nonetheless, this has been incredibly obvious to me for some time and I always thought it was interesting that no one else seemed to pick up on it, or at least didn't make a fuss of it if they did.

I used to find the CD annoying but had some respect for him because he at least made "honest" reviews, and as annoying the whole anti woke crowd is, most of the times he had a point, sometimes movies and shows could get annoying, but then he started hanging out with people like geeks and gamers and nerdrotic, which set some flags but thought "oh probably nothing", then he started making those annoying comments even in his good reviews, like what he said that across the spider verse discriminated the white straight male and was like "hu?" then he started lying in his reviews, like moon knight and glass onion among others, then he lost me, and then he started making videos hating on some actresses after they had an interview or something, like brie larson or rachel zegler, then he officially became a paparazzi disquised as a critic, which is just pathetic, not to mention he pretty much tries to put his own agenda, when something comes out that doesn't follow his beliefs, he critizices it unfarily, best example barbie, and what's worse is the lies, because most of his audience don't even watch the stuff he criticizes, or go to him when they want something to watch, misleading your audience like that, specially when your beliefs are involved is just wrong

My local shops have one piece, jujitsu kaisen, death note, attack on titan, naruto merch in them, and its basically just a kind of local shop. The western shows they have on merch like tshirts is rick and morty, simpsons. They also cary some generic marvel branded gear, as in no specific comic/movie stuff on it, just "Marvel". I swear, if it was any other guy, I wouldn't mind it at all, but the fact that Drinker criticizes others works and calls it trash, while his fans see him as a cultured man who watches real cinema, but can't think of a Japanese is really telling. Also, yes he said that those were not Japanese, and that's the point. Here come the usual responses any time people criticize these Anti-Woke Channels: “You’re Jealous” Eh maybe. I wish I could make videos pandering to a specific demographic using their knee jerk reactions to get views & money, but I stupidly chose my morals. “They have tons of followers & views than you” Ok? Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, & the Kardashians were some of the most watched people in America, that doesn’t make any of them right. “Your just leeching off their videos” Again this isn’t the argument you think it is. Plus they do the exact same thing, but worse. You notice that the majority of these channels only post things they hate & never things they like unless it’s proving some idiotic point? How many videos do you need to make about any piece of news about Brie Larson or Rachel Zegler? I will say that at least critical drinker actually recommends stuff he likes unlike his “colleagues”. “You just don’t like their opinions” Um yeah, I have a right to voice against a take I don’t agree with. They and their fanbase do it all the time. Having an opinion doesn’t mean you’re exempt from criticism. If I say [insert football team] is better than [insert football team], people can question, criticize, and/ or counter argue against it. If I said that I LOVED Captain Marvel (I don’t), you won’t accept that opinion. Especially if this “opinion” is blantley false. If you have a take on something that didn’t happen then it’s not an opinion, it’s a falsehood. At minimum misguided. “They just live rent free in your head” Not really. Again questioning, critiquing counter arguing against an opinion is not about obsession. As mentioned earlier, if someone has a bad take or take that I don’t agree with I’m allowed to either criticize and/or counter it. By this logic I can say Brie Larson, and Rachelle Zegler live rent free their heads. Or what about EFAP? “You’re just a hater” Yet here you are in another creator’s video telling them how dumb or pathetic they are & you’re not a hater? Oh let me guess…you’re just giving your “thoughts” against this person’s opinion?

The jealous argument response People obviously mean they think he wishes he had that followers or view count, especially how most of Turf's popular videos have mixed to negative reception. But I don't think TN is jealous anyways "Having a lot of followers doesn't mean you're right" I don't think this is one of the case, despite many KZfaqrs trying to criticize him, he still has a strong and growing fanbase. EVEN IN INDIA he has a cult following. The thing is that at this stage he would've started to lose views. Remember when relatively smaller YT channels started posting videos on why Lily Singh isn't funny, boy that was detrimental to her career. Diesel patches (one of my favorite KZfaqrs) basically started his career criticizing content creators with large fanbases of how unfunny they are, and he received mostly positive feedback (unlike Turf's videos on drinker) The leeching of videos response Yes Turf kinda is, as his and his colleagues most viewed videos are generally videos about dudes they don't agree with. But that necessarily isn't a bad thing, even drinker said on Twitter that She-Hulk made him money. Also, where you trying to make the argument that becos they leech on others more, that invalidates when Turf does it? "You don't like their opinions". No one says that. I think the closest is when people call out Turf for calling those who he doesn't agree with racists, sexists or toxic. Living rent free in your head argument. I kinda agree with this one, especially as this very same video was posted on Initiative's channel. They just added OC saying the same sentence multiple times & Pillar of Garbage and called it day. Maybe they were disappointed how it didn't do well initially. You're just a hater argument. Ya I agree with you, don't think Turf's a hater. So ya drinker fans barely watched this one, unlike his first attempts cos what is the use, they're just boosting the performance of his videos. I did try to comment my own thoughts bout this video, got only replied by one account about one specific point I made, so that's that

@@ebiyoneyewuoma2004 I think there is a disconnect here. I know that this is TN’s video. However, I’m specifically saying it in a general sense. Anytime another channel responds to critical drinker or people like him these are there go to responses. Again popularity doesn’t automatically mean good. As stated before, the people I gave as examples are very popular people with a “cult following” who have said things that were wrong. Your popularity doesn’t make you right it just makes you convincing and/ or entertaining. “No one says that” Actually they do. Every video I’ve seen thus far who responds to anti-woke channels there is this continuous comment or some form of it.

January 12, 2024 - It's interesting to hear from people that dislike, and disagree with The Drinker. I am a fan of The Drinker and other reviewers like Dave Cullen. I am not surprised that there are people that disagree with The Drinker and his point of view. I agree with The Drinker and his evaluation of what the entertainment industry is currently producing. There are two points here. First, is that there are a lot of people like those who agree with this video. That are perfectly happy with what the entertainment industry is currently producing and I'm happy for them. Second, is regardless of what The Drinker, or those like TurfNation believe. It all comes down to money. If the public at large is willing to pay for what the entertainment industry produces, that's fine. In the meantime, people like myself that are not happy with what is on offer. Will not spend our money on productions we feel are subpar, and/or that evangelize for political and social views that we don't support or agree with. Western society is divided by political and social beliefs, and that is reflected in our opinions regarding entertainment. For those that don't like the clips that The Drinker uses in his videos. This isn't a snippet form a debate, where both sides are hopefully prepared to back up every point or argument on the fly. When talking about some subjects, many people including myself do the same thing. My biggest problem with the likes of The Critical Drinker and Despot of Antrim is their hypocrisy. I don't think there's much to the claim of hypocrisy. Oftentimes, Hollywood is characterized by him as pandering to activists or a very unrepresentative segment of the general audience, resulting in works that seem out of touch with what most consumers want. In contrast, The Critical Drinker seems to generally broadcast his opinions on media while playing the character of a ranting alcoholic, and he's drawn an audience who largely agree or are at least entertained by his opinions' presentation. I'm sure the audience and its feedback have had some impact on his content, but what he's doing doesn't seem very similar to what Hollywood is characterized as doing.

When it comes to casting, I think the balance is quite wrong. The thing is that "diverse characters" are mostly present in typical "nerd franschises" such as fantasy and space opera stuff. Outside that, media is really quite annoyingly white. I think fantasy and historical movies need less diversity, while everything else need more diversity. I also have a personal gripe with the lack of characters with mixed heritage in science fiction movies. I think that the anger stems from male nerds feel that nothing is made for them anymore, and it really started with the Galactica reboot series. Also, in my opinion the issue is not skin color but gender. I simply do not think that a franchise like Star Wars fit female creatives. It is also to many progressive creatives in that type of franchise I think. When progressives make stuff it often feel "soft" and "to nice".

I agree with the majority of what you said, except for the Star Wars part. One of my biggest grapes with the current state of Hollywood is how everything is so “safe”. Or they do the bare bones at tackling an actual subject. It’s not surprising because they put so much money into these projects and want everyone to see them that they go the safest viewable route they can. I do get mad when Hollywood does the bare minimum when it comes to diversity. However, the problem I have with Critical Drinker and others is that they make diversity/ inclusion in itself the problem. Regardless of race/ gender swapping or original characters, they always find an issue with it. Even if it’s done in the most earnest, and authentic way possible, they will find issues with it. For example, you can have a gay character in a movie where they only say one line. These guys will then say the movie was terrible and site that character as the reason why the movie was bad. Because if it’s their narrative.

FOr example, had The Last Jedi used Veronica Ngo as a main character rather than Kelly Marie Than, I think it would make people have a much more positive perception of East Asian women in that kind of movies. I also think that they make female protagonists to "clean" or in other ways provocative to large parts of the main audiences. Rey for example feels like she came directly from an upper class British boarding school. IK came to that conclusion after seeing the Furiosa teaser, and saw how much believable it felt when the main character had a dirty face. I simply notice that the female characters I hate have one thing in common: They are all in Disney productions. There are also some cringy one in Rings of Power and Wheel of Time, but there the white male characters suck at least as much as everyone else, and the one actor that does not suck in Wheel of Time is female. I also think that Jaz Sinclair does a great job in Gen V, a stark contrast to Moses Ingram. However, I think that some franchises like Star Wars is not suited to tackling any serious subject really. When it comes to Hollywood being "safe", it is kind of sad that Star Wars is responsible for it to some part, as it to some degree killed the New Hollywood era.

@@steinarvilnes3954 I can’t get behind your argument of “talentless” because that can be entirely subjective. I disagree, I don’t think changing the actor is going to change the poor dialogue & character direction of Rose Tico. I somewhat agree with your argument of how female characters are presented in blockbuster films. I disagree with your comparison of Jaz Sinclair and Moses Ingram. If anything, they’re a comparison of what a quality script is given to an actress. For example Jaz was in the show Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Her character was abysmal and unforgettable. However, that’s due to poor character direction. I’m happy she was given a second chance with Gen V. I can say the same with most actors. Lastly, I disagree with your statement about Star Wars not fit to tackle any serious subjects, because the clone wars, Andor, Bad Batch, & most of rebels shows they can. This video does a great job about the state of Hollywood. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLd2a5V8z5PaYHk.htmlsi=KCMfXCOK26pbzWPo

@@mizushogun Off course it may be the direction in Obi Wan, but it still sucked. The problem for me was that the way Ingram talked simply did not fit the Star Wars universe at all. It is actually the worst performance I can recall ever seeing. Different from Rose Tico where the lines the character spoke was the issue, not how she spoke them. Also, I feel that the Finn character was borderline racist, felt like a 30ies cartoon stereotype. Boyega is really an actor that would be great for Star Wars, but the Finn character sucked. It is like if someone hired Sylvester Stallone to be a gay kindergarten teacher. I forgot Andor, how embarrasing of me. However, they are issue that fit perfectly with Star Wars. It is when they try to cover issues not traditionally a part of SW it is a total fail . I actually think Andor is the best Star Wars media period.

Honestly,, I think his success comes from the fact the he speaks to the frustrations many of us feel. She - hulk sucked, and it wasn’t cause it was a woman, it was because the writing and story sucked. I agreed with a lot of what he said. Is he perfect, always correct? Absolutely not, but he presents a position, just as you’re presenting yours and I have no problem with that. Interesting vid, well presented!

CD did a review on LOTR and praised the male characters for being the macho gungho ass kickers that they were while ignoring the flaws that made them relateable and being stronger for rising above it And we're just ruling out the women who helped out and did their part? Eowyn, arwyn etc The mask is slipping,CD is showing his boorish, ignorant, brazen machismo with each review Drinker is the sort of guy who'll ignore the seven samurai, praise the magnificent 7 while b*tch about the denzel reboot because the white characters didn't survive

@@bibek12332 where did you get the idea that I said that these blockbuster multi billion dollar superhero movies weren’t mediocre? You’re bringing up stuff I never said. I’m just pointing out how Eric loves to complain all the time about the state of comics & his inadequate media analysis. Then he makes his own comic and it’s just as generic as the companies he criticizes, which I find ironic. It only made “millions” due to it being against the comic establishment, which is nothing new.
