The Dathomiri Nightsisters take some strong inspiration from Greek and Norse mythology, and have a history in Star Wars that spans nearly three decades. Here is why they will be so important to the future of the series and the rest of the Mandoverse.

I love seeing how desperate the Imperial Remnants are during this period. Gideon using cloning technology and trying to replicate force sensitivity, Thrawn using Nightsister magick, etc.

That is a really interesting idea, the force is the one thing the empire can’t control anymore, The Emperor and Vader could use the force, but now with them out of the picture the empire is failing and on their last legs, so they’re desperate to get back some amount of control of the force to regain their power and stability as an empire

Also I feel the Great Mothers are the replacement for Rukh. As the Noghri, nightsisters were wiped out by the Empire (from a certain point of view), but they don't know that yet. So they might end up betraying Thrawn and killing him in a way or in another.

@@davido.1233 I feel Enoch is just the bodyguard aspect of Rukh, and the side of the character that deals with the control of his people and manipulation by the Empire fits more with the high mothers

After Thrawn was taken out by a Jedi using Purrgil against him, I wouldn't be surprised if he uses the Night Sisters to reanimate the corpses of the Purrgil in the graveyard to stop the Jedi who is coming. That would be like poetry, I think.

I’ve never read legends books, but I do know of them. If I had told a fan in 1995 that Thrawn and Nightsisters will appear in live action and work together, they’d probably never believe it.

On top of everything else they bring, I think the witches are probably our closest analog to Joruus C'baoth, rather than Baylan as many people speculated. If Thrawn is using a zombie army, their magick is key to coordinating like Joruus's battle meditation was in legends. And like C'baoth, I fully expect the mothers to have their own ambitions of power outside of serving Thrawn

I'm really interested to see how this impacts other stories in the future. It would be interesting to see them foretell the return of ol' Palps, or interact with Snoke. It's hard to remember that this amazing media is so closely connected to the sequel trilogy

In your remember AHSOKA dies on the Planet Mortis, but was resurrected by the sacrifice of the Daughter. This may be why the Night Mothers call Ahsoka 'a loose thread'. Her lifeline has been broken, therefore they cannot see her future, which makes AHSOKA a wildcard/an unknown in the tapestry of Fate & Destiny The witches, who served in the Emperor's palace (the former Jedi Temple) on Corussant, referred to Senator Leia Organa Solo as Lady Vader, same as Rukh's people the Noghri.

It's in the comics, anyone can be a nightsister as long as you take the creed. 1. I abandon my life before this 2. I will make my life here on Darthomir 3. I agree to my soul used and tied to the water of living/life You also see this done to ventress. depending on your connection to the force can you use magic off world (away from the Fountain) meaning Elsbeth has a connection to the force, she seems to never have an issue using magic

I've been playing Jedi Fallen Order again these days and paying more attention to the echoes Cal collects, specially those related to the Zeffo. In the tomb on the planet Zeffo, with the first puzzle you encounter (the one with the ball and wind tunnels) he finds one echo that tells him that the Zeffo used the place to train Force sensitive people. I wonder if Thrawn is been looking around lo learn about the history of the place and found something that helps him fight Force users.

I really love how Ahoska dips into mythology and especially Norse and Greek. The Three Nightsisters as the triple goddess dips into my Pagan religion and it really makes me feel good that Star Wars is using the influence of Paganism into the storyline. I look at the Nightsisters as the Triple Goddess that also appears in the book The White Goddess (which is also an influence for John Williams for his musical compositions, both concert stage and Star Wars)

In season six of the clone wars, Mother Talzen is called 'the great mother' multiple times. (The double episode with Mace and JarJar). I guessing there were once a lot more than three.

Do keep in Mind that Wolverton and Zahn were closely following Lore that Lucas had written volumes of notebooks about while developing the Original Trilogy. Zahn not only created Thrawn, he introduced Coruscant!

As for what magick tricks Thrawn might have learned, my first guess would be card tricks-portable, minimal resources, many levels of complexity, and great for any size of audience

I think Morgan might be half-Dathomirian and half-human hence the hair color and slightly ash colored skin. All of the is new information on the origins of the Nightsister's certainly complicates what we thought we knew about them. Up until now it was always assumed they were a Zabrak offshoot without horns,

"Dathomirian" is just a hybrid species formed by male zabraks mating with female humans. Males look zabrak and females look human. Leland Chee extablished this fact. Originally all dathomirians were simply human as george lucas hadn't retconned Maul to being from Dathomir yet. We don't know if the zabrak part applies to the other witch cultures on dathomir or just the nightsisters.

Long time SW fan here, I never watched the animated series. When I first saw the night sister mothers I realized that their look was inspired by discarded Sith Witch artwork two decades ago for the prequels.

Maybe someone already suggested this and I've missed it somewhere, but in the Clone Wars story anthology, there's a story, "Bug" by E. Anne Convery where a little girl, Bug, gets invited to travel with Falta and leave her simple life on Sidi. Could Morgan Elspeth be Bug?

I think the thing Baylan is looking for is the Leveler from The High Republic. I can see how he’d think it could break the repetitive cycle and since it’s from THR, it could be in one of Huyang’s old stories.

What if the Wiched as Dathomire are human? The reason their skin is all gray is because of their use of the force, Palpatine and other Sith Lords for example get deformed do to the constant use of the dark side maybe the same happens to the witches?

The Dathomiri are a species now confirmed to be from another galaxy. They can reproduce with humans and Zabraks, but they are not humans.

Doubtful, but they're a trope which was already well established, even when they were written. A rising force of ancient and cosmic doom. 'Warhammer' was doing it, way back in the day, with the Tyranids. 'Babylon 5' was probably the best example which explored it, because they balanced out the Shadows with the Vorlons and the protagonists had to ultimately decide to froge their own path, instead of ally with either of those two extremes of ideology. It started out depicting the Shadows as a galaxy-ending threat (which was true, 'from a certain point of view'), but it soon became apparent that the Vorlons, after sluggishly refusing to act, were equally as bad: They just demanded strict adherence to order, instead.

Morgan’s comment re having seen the catacombs makes me wonder just how vivid her majicks dreams/visions are (and yet she only talks of whispers and is always looking to Baylan for guidance re what can be “seen”). Or alternatively how old Morgan actually is such that she had previously been to Peridea to see them 🤷‍♂️… “For some, war…” = Thrawn “For others, a new beginning…” = The Great Mothers / Nightsisters “For us, power such as you’ve never dreamed.”

I think it’s possible that most of our heroes don’t make it back to the main galaxy. Thrawn heads back and starts his war that Mando and the rest have to stop. Ahsoka, Ezra, maybe even baylon and/or Shin stay behind to fight whatever this other darkness is. That removes them all from “why didnt they help luke/where are they in the ST” discourse as well.

I still wonder who Thrawn and his troopers has been fighting since they arrived. Can it have been the nightsisters before Thrawn convinced them we might have use of eachother. Or is there a bigger threat out there

The mothers seemed to be concerned when Thrawn destroyed the Megalithic structure. It would make sense they want to leave because that part of the unknown region etc, is not what it appear to be. Abaloth is clearly slumbering or has that place under an illusion, the environment seemed closed in. Tomb like. It would be interesting to actually see The Chiss Ascendency and their hidden force sensitive kind.

I think Morgan has been written like a long joke. During her appearance in The Mandalorian and in first few episodes of Ahsoka we believe her to be the most powerful (or at least formidable) antagonist on the show so far. But now that she has arrived on Peridea, Thrawn sees her as no less annoying than the Lieutenants from the Empire. Then we see her mouthing the words to the Great Mothers' spell to show she knows it. She's overconfident externally and underconfident internally. I think there's an amusing twist coming in the last episode with Morgan's character.

I was watching this video when my friend sent me a meme about the witches being able to feel Ahsoka arriving from another galaxy inside the mouth of a Purgil, but they cannot locate Ezra living in a snail trailer park, maybe it's the beard throwing them up just like Obi-Wan 😅

Never read the books, but when the Nightsisters first popped up in Clone Wars, I was a little hesitant. Magic in Star Wars? How preposterous! If they had just told me it was the Force by a different name, it would have made more sense. By the end of their first arc in Season 3 though, I was on board, and now it's always a treat to see them in a story. The Great Mothers looked and sounded great. If it wasn't so windy on top of that spire, I'd have sworn their robs were eerily flowing just like Mother Talzin's. That's the one missing element for me for them to be 100% perfect.

I suspect that Thrawns years studying the Nightsisters force Magik will ultimately be his undoing. Yes he is more knowledgeable in the force but only in that one aspect. Nightsisters don’t use the light side and I can see Ashoka’s arc fitting very nicely with his ultimate defeat at the hands of something he’s not familiar with. A light side force user

1:00 The symbol may be Celtic, however the trio is not Celtic, but Wiccan. It can be a helpful archetype, to an extent, but not Celtic. On another note, I wonder if the Bendu is inspired by the Thracian goddess, Bendis, who is equated to the Greek goddess Artemis.

The inclusion of the Night Sisters in the storyline is cool but imposes significant issues I don't see us getting answers for, such as; - The caskets Thrawn is loading onto his ship are supposedly either dead Night Sister bodies or even possibly Night Sisters in stasis. So if they are bodies, what on Peridea could have killed so many thousands of them? How far back in time does this collection of bodies begin? Obviously before Thrawn's arrival. - How and when did the Night Sisters arrive on Peridea? If they rode Pyrgylls, did they find out it was a one way trip only on arrival? Are these 3 Great Mothers the descendants of the original group or very old (possibly even resurrected) members of that group? Are they the only 3 left? - when, did Morgan "see the catacombs"? I've got at least another dozen questions on these gals but I don't see Filoni answering any of them in this show (or possibly in the coming film or S-2 either.

I think when the witches came to dathonir they enslaved the natives . They also seem to be a matriarchal species. They only kept night brothers around for breeding purposes

What do you think the timeline of Ahsoka is? The shoe seemingly picks up after the Mando episode "The Jedi" but she met Luke in Book of Boba. The mention of Moff Gideon in this latest episode makes it sound like after Book of Boba. with the scenes with Anakin wouldn't Ahsoka have tried to tell him about meeting Luke? Why didn't Ahsoka seek Luke 's help to deal with the fallen Jedi and the return of Thrawn? Obvious answer may be cost of putting Luke in the show.

I suspect a novel would be more likely in 2025 or 2026 because they'll want to flesh out the main story before they have Zahn fill in the gaps of the past.

If the writings and zepho glyphs are more than simple easter eggs, then the timeline is fishy because they must have been to Dathomir (where Kujet had his seat of power) BEFORE getting to the other galaxy

I am really hoping to see Hera and the new republic acknowledge that Thrawn is still alive. Like, I think you would have to be and this is just my opinion, however I think you would really have to be an incompetent fool to not see the possibility that Thrawn is still around and combined with Mon Mothmas leadership I think the new republic might at least try and see what they are up to. That is just my opinion though and I could be wrong. However subsequently I do think even if it is small that we will get to see some more information about how powerful the nightsisters are and how Sabine and Ezra get home because they have no idea Ahsoka and Hyuang are coming to peridia. We will see soon enough I'm sure and I for one can't wait to see the new episode of Ahsoka later today.

Keep in mind that in Legends the term Nightsisters only referred to the dark side witches, while there were also plenty of light side witches on Dathomir. Also, the Legends witches were all human.

I'm not seeing any physical differences between night sisters and humans. Tattoos? Am I missing something. An outfit isn't a body part. Asajj Ventress and Merrin look pretty "humanish" when wearing regular clothes. Maybe Morgan just didn't get all face tatted up for some reason.

How much is Disney, or what perks are they offering for the over-the-top positive reviews. The writing on the show has been mediocre at best. While I can see how some think it is decent, it doesn't deserve the recognition as the best Star Wars ever. I have a feeling. Many of the reviewers are showing massive bias with some expectation of a reward. I have never seen this many MacGuffins put into one show in order to keep it flowing from episode to episode. They're not even subtle about it
